The foremost reason why the Steelers aren’t a fit for Justin Fields

Have you heard about the one where the Steelers trade a bunch of draft capital for QB Justin Fields?

Have you heard about the one where the Pittsburgh Steelers trade a bunch of draft capital for quarterback Justin Fields?

We have, too — at a nauseating level.

There are so many layers to scenarios of the former first-round draft pick being traded, and chances are, the Bears might not even do it.

But there’s one glaring reason Fields isn’t a fit for the Steelers — a person, actually. And that’s Mike Tomlin.

The last thing the Heisman Trophy winner needs is a defensive-minded head coach attempting to develop him. Arthur Smith doesn’t have experience grooming young quarterbacks — his background was offensive line and tight ends before he got the offensive coordinator job in Tennessee. Ryan Tannehill had success under Smith, but he was already well into his career.

Pittsburgh has been all about defense since the beginning of time, and that’s how it intends to win. Gritty and physical is its nature. Even with Terry Bradshaw, the Steel Curtain was the star. That’s never changed and it’s not going to now.

As frustrating as it’s been watching offensive-driven teams around the league win playoff games and Super Bowls while the Steelers come up short year after year, they haven’t pivoted.

“The Steelers do not provide what Justin Fields, talented but who needs lots of refinement, needs,” sports media personality Colin Cowherd said on the Feb. 14 The Herd.

“He needs an offensive head coach, a sensibility that is offensive-leaning… You can take a Tesla to a Ford dealer, and maybe they can help briefly, but it’s not their specialty. The Steelers and offense, that’s not what they do.”

Fields needs a team that’s pivoted and is fully dedicated to offense if he’s going to succeed in this league.

And that team, unfortunately, is not the Pittsburgh Steelers.

2024 NFL draft: Cowherd talks Commanders potentially moving up

Lying season has already started as it pertains to the NFL draft.

Colin Cowherd spoke much truth in one comment he made on Tuesday.

Cowherd discussed a report that the Commanders were exploring a possible trade-up with the Bears in this 2024 NFL draft to select USC quarterback Caleb Williams.

The problem was, this was not an actual report and there was no evidence of this actual report late Tuesday afternoon.

The truth with which Cowherd actually spoke, and he was unaware of it, was how he introduced the “report” of the Commanders already exploring a trade with the Bears.

Cowherd introduced the “report,” declaring, “Okay, so in about two months and a week, we have the NFL draft. And folks, it’s already starting.”

The popular TV show host was more accurate than he realized. He apparently had been given “a report” stating the origin was Mike Garafolo. However, Garafolo has yet to tweet the fact of this report four hours after Cowherd’s show today.

In addition, there is nothing of this “report” on the NFL’s official website NFL.com, which daily posts breaking news stories.

Cowherd was right. Indeed it is already starting. What is starting is speculation is being incorrectly designated as breaking news. Media personalities and their theories and hopes are being declared to be reports.

Even more, in the same 3:47 video clip, Cowherd talked of how analysts Merrill Hoge and Matt Miller have both recently raised what they confidently feel are red flags concerning Williams.

Cowherd concluded the video segment actually declaring, “When smart people, who are right a lot, say things, as I always say, ‘Let’s get it right, not, try to be right.’ I may have to re-evaluate my number one pick.”

Get used to it; you are going to hear all sorts of theories as news right up to the actual night of the NFL draft.

It happens every year…

Lincoln Riley discusses Kliff Kingsbury and the Commanders with Colin Cowherd

Lincoln Riley was busy talking to various national commentators and talk-show hosts on Monday.

It is Super Bowl week, when a lot of media personalities do a lot of talking about the state of the NFL. The big game on Sunday, February 11, is a natural point of focus, but so is the NFL draft. The NFL coaching carousel is another very big topic, with head coaches and coordinators being hired left and right. Lincoln Riley has sent a lot of elite offensive players to the NFL. He also spent the last year working with Kliff Kingsbury in tutoring and guiding quarterback Caleb Williams. In this week of talking, Riley decided to make the rounds with big talkers such as Colin Cowherd. Riley offered his view of how Kingsbury will fit in Washington with the Commanders under new head coach Dan Quinn.

One thing which is interesting and notable about Kliff Kingsbury is that while he has been an NFL head coach and a college head coach, he has never been an NFL offensive coordinator. Obviously, this is something which has to be kept in context, given that Kingsbury did call offensive plays for the Arizona Cardinals. He simply did so as head coach, not a coordinator. Nevertheless, Kingsbury has never had a set-aside role as an NFL play-caller which is separate from his role as a head coach. Washington will give him that new role, where he doesn’t have to lead a whole team, just call plays for an offense.

Here’s Riley’s talk with Colin Cowherd on Kingsbury and other subjects, including Caleb Williams:

Colin Cowherd is walking back his report that Caleb Williams doesn’t want to play for the Bears

Yeaaaah, not sure who Colin Cowherd was talking to about all this.

The Chicago Bears have the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. USC’s Caleb Williams is one of the best players in the draft — especially at quarterback.

So, naturally, one would think that the Bear are probably considering taking Williams with that first pick. One might be wrong, though. At least, according to what FS1’s Colin Cowherd was telling us yesterday.

While talking about Williams on his show, Cowherd reported that Williams and “his group” did not want to go to Chicago and play for the Bears. He made it very clear that whoever he spoke with told him that the interest wasn’t there.

I do think it’s possible that Washington trade up and that Chicago allows Washington to trade up. Because Caleb and his group do not want to go to Chicago.”

Sounds pretty convincing, right? Now, 24 hours later, here he is walking the entire thing back.

“So I got a call from the Caleb Willams camp and they went ‘whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Colin. We don’t want to be painted as anti-Chicago and we don’t want to be painted as anti-Bear.’ And they made it clear to me, listen, ‘We don’t want to go to a city that doesn’t care. Chicago cares. They’re big, loud, they’re passionate. They fire coaches all the time. They care,’.”

So that’s that on that, I guess. It seems like Caleb Williams and his “camp” were never opposed to going to the Bears at all.

Where’d Cowherd come up with that first story? No idea. But it’ the complete opposite of what he said after taking that call.

Sounds like you have nothing at all to worry about, Bears fans. If Chicago wants to go Caleb Williams at No. 1, then Chicago will go Caleb Williams at No. 1. And it sounds like the quarterback would be fine with that.

Colin Cowherd rightfully slams ‘lonely, insecure men’ who hate on Taylor Swift at Chiefs games in 4-minute rant

This was so well said by Colin Cowherd.

Colin Cowherd joined Pat McAfee in the chorus of talking heads who are ripping on those who criticize Taylor Swift and the amount she’s shown on TV during Kansas City Chiefs games.

In a four-minute rant on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, he went in on “lonely, insecure men” who hypocritically whine about her. He talked about how there’s only about 18 minutes of actual football, how Swift — on average — is shown for 25 seconds.

Cowherd talked about how networks he’s worked at have pushed celebrities during games or have shown them a bunch, everyone from Matthew McConaughey to Drake to Jack Nicholson.

“And the young, attractive, beautiful, talented woman comes on for 25 seconds … and you’re bothered,” he said. “This says nothing, this anger, about Taylor Swift. It says everything about the men bothered by it.”

Colin Cowherd: #Bills’ Josh Allen will dominate the AFC East until he’s out of his prime (video):

The Bills and Josh Allen own the Dolphins. Their 24-14 win over their AFC East rivals showed that.

Offensive lineman Dion Dawkins thinks so, at least … and so does Colin Cowherd. The Fox Sports 1 host made a similar comment after the Bills won the AFC East in Week 18.

Cowherd credited Allen in a big way for the win.

“(Allen) will dominate this division until he’s out of his prime, which is probably six or seven years,” Cowherd said.

WATCH: Colin Cowherd calls Dolphins ‘inauthentic and fake’ ahead of Cowboys game

Colin Cowherd provided some harsh criticism of Miami ahead of their Week 16 matchup.

The Miami Dolphins are gearing up for a Week 16 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys that’s surrounded by narratives regarding how good both teams truly are.

Miami has yet to beat a team with a winning record, while Dallas has done so just once this season.

Ahead of the battle, FOX Sports’ Colin Cowherd previewed the contest and laid into the Dolphins while backing the Cowboys.

Miami hasn’t been great against some of the league’s top competition, but Dallas has had their struggles as well. One team will come out on top on Sunday and give themselves a chance at the top seed in their conference, but it will be surprising if it’s a blowout either way.

Colin Cowherd says the Seahawks need to go get a quarterback

What do you think?

The Seahawks have enjoyed above-average quarterback play for most of the last 20 years. There are some small exceptions, like the layover for Tarvaris Jackson between the Matt Hasselbeck and Russell Wilson eras, or Wilson’s last season as Seattle’s starter. However, for the most part they’ve gotten better results than the vast majority of NFL teams during that time. In fact, aside from the Packers nobody has gotten better results consistently. Geno Smith has continued that rare run of success, but that won’t stop some folks from pounding the table for someone else.

Watch Colin Cowherd opine on Seattle’s situation, and urge them to go out and get another quarterback.

It’s a bold take, especially considering that Smith just had the best game of his career in front of a national audience going against a top-five defense while facing pressure on over 50% of his dropbacks. Smith also has an extremely team-friendly contract, which makes him a strong value at QB even if his numbers are down this year.

Right now we’re feeling that Smith is pretty far from this team’s biggest problem and they’d be better served to boost their roster elsewhere – or maybe make some changes to Pete Carroll’s staff.

Then again, Smith is now 33 years old and it doesn’t seem like this team is going back to the Super Bowl anytime soon – no matter how well he plays. An argument can be made for rebooting at quarterback and trying to build up the offensive and defensive lines in order to catch up with the likes of the Cowboys, Eagles, Ravens and 49ers.

Colin Cowherd targets 49ers QB Brock Purdy with backwards hat thing

Colin Cowherd got #49ers big mad about Brock Purdy’s hat.

Colin Cowherd has done it again.

The long-time radio host on his program ‘The Herd’ riled up a fan base by taking an unserious shot at a team’s quarterback. This time 49ers QB Brock Purdy was in Cowherd’s faux-crosshairs for committing one of what the host pretends to believe to be the biggest sin a quarterback can commit: wearing a hat backwards.

Posting the quote in its entirety is mostly a waste of time, but the crux of his tongue-in-cheek point is that Jalen Hurts is more suited to be a franchise quarterback than Purdy because Purdy wore a hat backwards one time in a press conference. And also that he wouldn’t want Purdy to move his furniture. Or something.

Here’s the rant for those who want to watch it:

Also, here’s photo of QB Tom Brady, who some believe to be a franchise quarterback:

The 49ers and Eagles kick off at 1:25pm Pacific Time at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.

Colin Cowherd shares concerning report on Mac Jones’ attitude

This Colin Cowherd report isn’t a good look for Mac Jones.

A recent report by Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer suggested that Mac Jones “infuriated” people within the New England Patriots’ organization. Now, FOX Sports’ Colin Cowherd is speaking out about hearing similar rumblings about the third-year quarterback.

“Let me give you some inside sourcing,” Cowherd said on FS1’s “The Herd” on Thursday, via NESN’s Adam London. “There has been frustration for over a year that he doesn’t take to coaching and especially doesn’t take to hard coaching. [Tom] Brady took to hard coaching. Cam Newton, when he came in the building, was willing to be hard-coached. I have been told [for] over a year now [Jones] has lost some players in the room, the coaching staff. He’s bratty, he does not take too hard coaching.

“Well, that’s what [Bill] Belichick does. That’s generally what stars do. They like to be hard-coached. And that’s a real problem. So, when Albert Breer says that about coaching, that’s what I have heard. I’ve heard it over and over. Now, [Breer] is saying that. There’s real frustration in the building. They can’t get after him.”

This has been another frustrating year for Jones, who currently has 1,861 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions on the season.

The struggles date back to last season, when reports emerged that he sought outside help to fix the Patriots offense. Things don’t seem to be getting better for Jones, as New England currently sits at the bottom of the AFC with a 2-7 record.

These reports obviously don’t paint Jones in a positive light. However, the entire organization is unstable at the moment. There is a report that Bill Belichick might get fired if the Patriots lose to the Colts on Sunday. Couple that report with J.C. Jackson being sent home, and it’s clear that it’s been a busy week in the headlines for the organization.

There is still a fair amount of the season left to be played, but will Jones even make it that far as the starter? More importantly, one has to wonder if he will even be back at all in New England in 2024.
