Ohio State predictably drops in latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Are you OK with how far Ohio State dropped in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after the loss to Michigan?

Of course, we knew it was coming after Michigan completely dominated Ohio State in the second half of The Game on Saturday, but the Buckeyes have dropped in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

The Buckeyes couldn’t stop the running game of the Wolverines, and it ended up being their downfall in the latest run to a Big Ten title and appearance in the College Football Playoff. OSU didn’t drop too terribly far though, still showing in the top ten at No. 7.

Coming in ahead of OSU are Georgia (1), Alabama (2), Michigan (3), Cincinnati (4), Oklahoma State (5), and Notre Dame (6). Behind the Buckeyes, rounding out the top ten are Ole Miss (8), Baylor (9), and Oregon (10).

Ohio State will now sit at home and wait its fate after all the conference championship games are complete. The Bucks should still be in line for a New Year’s Six bowl, potentially the Rose Bowl, but we’ll wait to see how it all plays out.

After two weeks of looking somewhat challenged on offense, the Ohio State football team scored points in bunches against Purdue on Saturday. The defense may have looked a little suspect, but the Buckeyes did enough to show the nation and voters that they’re a team to reckon with.

The voters in the latest  USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll also agree, moving OSU up a spot to No. 4 after Ohio State had been stuck at No. 5 for three weeks. It’s a modest jump and probably has more to do with the Oklahoma loss than anything, but it’s clear the Buckeyes are on the move.

Still in front of OSU Georgia (1), Alabama (2), and Cincinnati (3). Rounding out the top ten behind Ohio State are  Oregon (5), Notre Dame (6), Michigan (7), Michigan State (8), Oklahoma State, and Ole Miss.

Ohio State holding steady in latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Ohio State is still hanging out in the same neighborhood in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

For the second straight week, Ohio State wasn’t necessarily impressive but did enough to survive and win against a motivated opponent. That was, apparently, enough to keep the Buckeyes right where they’ve been over the last couple of weeks in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, at No. 5.

As bad as many fans felt at the showing in Lincoln against Nebraska, the Buckeyes still totaled more yards and points against the Cornhuskers than any team they have played this season. That includes Oklahoma, Michigan, and Michigan State.

Ahead of OSU in the latest poll is Georgia still at No. 1, followed by https://rolltidewire.usatoday.com/ (2) who somehow moved up a spot despite a very lackluster performance against LSU at home, then Cincinnati (3), and Oregon (4).

Ohio State stuck in neutral in latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Ohio State continues to hold steady in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Ohio State didn’t maybe impress as it did in past weeks, but it still got a victory over a ranked opponent that sees it as its main rival in the league. That was, apparently, enough to keep the Buckeyes right where they’ve been over the last couple of weeks in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, still at No. 5.

The offense struggled to be as explosive as we’ve seen it lately, but still piled up almost 500 yards and was able to put 33 points against a defense that was only allowing about 14 a game coming in.

There was, of course, the big top ten matchup between Michigan and Michigan State that changed things a bit in the top ten  Georgia continues to be No.1, followed by Cincinnati, Alabama, and Oklahoma ahead of the Buckeyes. Michigan State, Oregon, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, and Michigan round out the top 10.

Ohio State continues to impress, yet makes no movement in latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Ohio State moved up again in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

The Ohio State football team continues to show the nation that it is a much different team than the one that lost to Oregon in Week 2. After five straight impressive outings, the Buckeyes have moved up in the public perception court of opinion, yet couldn’t gain any real ground in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, remaining at No. 5.

The offense has looked nearly unstoppable and it played the part again vs. Indiana Saturday night, doing almost anything it wanted en route to a 44-7 halftime lead. OSU then put it on cruise control for a 54-7 blowout victory.

With some more upsets in the top ten, things have shuffled again, however. Georgia, Cincinnati, Alabama, and Oklahoma appear ahead of the Buckeyes still, and Michigan, Michigan State, Oregon, Ole Miss, and Iowa round out the top 10.

The Ohio State football team might have been idle this past week, but with all the chaos still taking place across the college football landscape, the Buckeyes again climbed in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. In fact, the Buckeyes have now moved back into the top five for the first time since the week prior to the game against Oregon.

OSU has continued to look more like the OSU teams of the past with a more consistent and explosive offense along with an improving defense. The result has been three straight impressive wins, with plenty of tests still ahead.

The top ten has changed yeat again, with Georgia, Oklahoma, Cincinnati, and Alabama appearing ahead of the Buckeyes, and Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Oklahoma State, and Oregon rounding out the top ten.

Ohio State continues its march up in latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Ohio State continues to move in the right direction in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Poll after a dismantling of Rutgers Saturday.

The Ohio State football team continued to impress on Saturday with a clinic on offensive American football against the Maryland Terrapins. There’s still that loss against Oregon, but ever since Akron game, the Buckeyes have continued to improve and are looking more like the Ohio State team we expected to see early in the year.

Because of it, OSU continues to rise in the poll rankings, the latest of which came by way of the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. The Buckeyes rose to No. 7 last week and moved up one more spot to No. 6 after Week 6. Ahead of Ohio State is Georgia (1), Iowa (2), Oklahoma (3), Cincinnati (4), and Alabama (5). Rounding out the top ten below the Buckeyes are Michigan (7), Penn State (8), Michigan State (9), and Oregon (10).

The good news here is that Ohio State more than likely controls its own destiny. These rankings aren’t the ones that really matter, but with so many losses at the top, winning out in a tough Big Ten and being crowned champion would more than likely get OSU into the College Football Playoff easily.

And while the result went largely unnoticed across the country, we see signs of it making its way through the national landscape with the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

That’s because a lot of voters liked what they saw, moving Ohio State up three spots from No. 10 to No. 7 in the Week 5 rankings. That’s a significant bump into the top ten that had some to do with teams losing in front of it, but surely because of what folks saw OSU do on the road in the Big Ten as well.

Already this year, we’ve seen a crazy college football season with many teams inside the top ten falling. Teams like Clemson, Ohio State, and Notre Dame already have a loss, so the College Football Playoff race is going to be an interesting one as we flip the calendar each week.

The Ohio State football team did what we all thought they would do when Akron came to town. The Buckeyes dominated in every facet of the game while playing many younger, inexperienced players. Several starters were out nursing injuries in preparation for the Big Ten slate.

The voters liked what they saw moving Ohio State up two spots in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll from No. 12 to No. 10 in the Week 4 rankings.

It was a wild week in college football with several teams falling and others squeaking by to victories. Texas A&M and Clemson both fell out of the top 10. Oregon jumped Oklahoma after the Sooners struggled with West Virginia.

Ohio State slips in latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

How far did the Buckeyes fall after a subpar performance against Tulsa? #GoBucks

When a team like Tulsa comes to town, one has to figure that a perennial power like Ohio State is going to take care of business. While the Buckeyes won by three scores it was anything but easy as the team had to rely on freshman phenom, TreVeyon Henderson, and some late interceptions to secure the victory.

The voters took notice in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll dropping the Bucks from No. 11 down to No. 12. For those keeping score at home, that is indeed the wrong direction for a team trying to recover from an embarrassing loss at home a week earlier.

Ohio State still has time to move up the polls and back into the playoff picture. But there is zero room for error week to week. Bottom line, Ohio State has to look better against inferior opponents.

A look at the top ten ahead of Ohio State includes Alabama (1), Georgia (2), Oklahoma (3), Oregon (4), Texas A&M (5), Iowa (6), Clemson (7), Penn State (8), Cincinnati (9), and Notre Dame (10).
