Browns fans made a Mason Rudolph piñata so they could swing a helmet at it

Funny? Tasteless? Both?

A group of Cleveland Browns fans decided to make light of the incident which cost Myles Garrett the rest of his 2019 season.

Garrett infamously ripped off Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph’s helmet and swung it at him during the closing moments of a matchup between Cleveland and Pittsburgh earlier this season. The NFL responded by suspending Garrett indefinitely, with his return looking likely to come in 2020. Rudolph, who will pay a $50,000 fine for the fight, was among the other players punished for the incident.

These Cleveland fans made a Rudolph piñata. A blindfolded fan swung a helmet at that piñata — and she seemed to make contact with the man holding the piñata. Even trolling Garrett is a dangerous act. Here’s a look at the activity, via a video from Cleveland.com.

Miami Dolphins inactives for Week 12 vs. the Browns

The Miami Dolphins are a little over an hour from kickoff, and we now know which Dolphins on the 53-man roster will not be suiting up for today’s game.

The Miami Dolphins are a little less than an hour from kickoff, and we now know which Dolphins on the 53-man roster will not be suiting up for today’s game. The Dolphins shared the inactives list just moments ago.

The inactives this week don’t really provide any significant losses — primarily because most of Miami’s significant starters who are injured have already found their way to the injured reserve list for the rest of the season. The Dolphins will need to be mindful of their health along the offensive line, as the inactive status of Chris Reed, Isaiah Prince and Keaton Sutherland could pose problematic for Miami if injuries arise up front, as they often have this season.

Otherwise, there’s no surprises for the Dolphins on the injury front and the team is full steam ahead to lock horns with the Browns in Cleveland. The Dolphins kick off at 1PM EST and are currently listed as 10.5 point underdogs.

Ravens’ Week 12 rooting guide

The Baltimore Ravens can win out and are guaranteed a playoff spot but a little help in Week 12 never hurt. Here’s four teams to root for

The Baltimore Ravens have their own game to worry about, taking on the Los Angeles Rams in Week 12. However, though the Ravens can just worry about their own schedule and still lock up at least a No. 2 seed if they win out, a little help from the rest of the league never hurt anyone.

In Week 12, Baltimore has a chance to improve their standings even further, including getting that much closer to formally locking up their AFC North crown. So let’s take a look at this week’s rooting guide so you know which teams to be cheering for and which games don’t matter as much.

The Patriots are right ahead of the Ravens in the AFC playoff race, thanks to just one more win. But with a head-to-head tiebreaker, a New England loss and Baltimore win would put the Ravens in the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoff picture.

A No. 1 seed means home-field advantage throughout the entire postseason as well as a first-round bye. For a team that plays well off their bye and will likely need an extra week to recuperate from a long season, that should be the best path to Baltimore playing in Super Bowl LIV.

Dolphins CB Ken Webster doesn’t travel with team for Week 12

Injured Dolphins CB Ken Webster will not play today, as he did not travel with the team to Cleveland.

The Miami Dolphins are just hours away from taking the field and doing battle with the Cleveland Browns in Week 12. When the Dolphins’ defense takes the field this week, the team will be severely undermanned in the secondary. Miami lost safeties Bobby McCain and Reshad Jones this past week to injured reserve, where they join Xavien Howard in waiting for the end of the season before looking to rehab.

At least one more Dolphin will be missing from the secondary as well — cornerback Ken Webster did not travel with the team to Cleveland due to an ankle injury.

With the Dolphins having to worry about wide receivers Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. today, all hands on deck certainly would have been helpful to stave off the Browns’ air attack, led by second-year quarterback Baker Mayfield. Now, Mayfield and company should be quite aggressive through the air and it will come onto Miami’s pass rush to mask the lingering issues in the secondary for the Dolphins.

Webster isn’t the caliber of player who would have been able to put either Landry or Beckham on lockdown, but he’s a promising youngster who certainly could’ve used the reps against some of the best receivers the NFL has to offer.

Miami kicks off Week 12 against the Browns at 1PM EST today at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland.

Behind Enemy Lines with Browns Wire to preview Week 12

Dolphins Wire checks in with Browns Wire to get the scoop on Cleveland ahead of today’s game between Miami and the Browns.

The Dolphins are set to kick Week 12 off this afternoon against the Cleveland Browns — their 11th game of the 2019 season. We check in with Jeff Risdon, the managing editor of Browns Wire. to get the scoop on the opposition.

The Browns are one of the more disappointing teams in the NFL so far this season. What has been the primary root of their struggles?

The easiest place to point the finger of blame is at head coach Freddie Kitchens. He’s very much looked like a guy who has never even been a coordinator before, let alone in charge of everything. With all the high-profile personalities, the high expectations and the complete scheme change on defense, it’s been a rough go for Kitchens. I’d be remiss to not mention the offensive tackles. Greg Robinson but especially Chris Hubbard have been dreadful and are the biggest reason why the offense has sputtered. If you’re doing a mock draft for Cleveland and don’t have an offensive tackle in the first round, your mock is wrong.

Cleveland has several prominent former Dolphins on their roster. How have expectations been met for guys like Jarvis Landry and Olivier Vernon?

Landry has played well both seasons in Cleveland. He has stepped up as more of a leadership presence this year and it’s helped. He’s still basically the same player he was in Miami. There are Browns fans who are frustrated a bit that he doesn’t produce more based on his contract, and that’s a fair critique. But he’s been the Browns’ most consistent receiving weapon. Vernon is hurt and will miss this game. Like Landry, he gets dogged because of his contract and because he’s not the No. 1 player at his position on the Browns. Vernon started a little slow but he was fantastic in Weeks 3-9, when he got hurt. He had more QB pressures and hits than Myles Garrett during that timespan, and he is easily the Browns’ best run defender up front.

How can Freddie Kitchens get ahold of his troops and keep them from self inflicting damage each week?

Up until the brawl at the end of the Steelers game, the Browns had been more disciplined since their bye week. But then everything went out the window. They haven’t turned the ball over in three weeks and are reducing the pre-snap penalties (2 in 4 weeks), so it is getting better. Kitchens seems to be letting his assistants do more in-game coaching and that has helped.

What is one thing about the Dolphins that scares you as a Browns fan?

Talent-wise, there’s not a lot to be honest. But Coach Flores seems to have the team playing unified and to the best of their ability. That’s not always true of the Browns, and the Dolphins are definitely the mentally tougher squad in this matchup. If the Dolphins hang around, their resilience and a little FitzMagic could prove deadly for a Browns team that is forever living on the edge.

Who wins and why?

The Browns offense has too much talent and has really thrived since Kareem Hunt returned two weeks ago. I do think the Browns missing three regular starters on the defensive line will be an issue, especially if Miami can get the perimeter run game working. But Baker Mayfield and the balanced offense will prove too much. Browns by 10.

Report: NFL fines Mason Rudolph $50,000 after fight with Myles Garrett

The NFL hit Mason Rudolph with a $50k fine for his role in fight with Myles Garrett.

Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph controversially escaped a suspension for his role in an ugly fight with Cleveland’s Myles Garrett, but it was reported Saturday that the NFL hit Rudolph with a $50,000 fine. Garrett was suspended indefinitely for ripping off Rudolph’s helmet and clubbing him over the head with it, and two other players earned suspensions for their role in the brawl. Earlier this week, the NFL heard Garrett’s appeal and upheld his indefinite suspension.

Many fans and analysts felt that Rudolph deserved a suspension for instigating the fight. It was reported on Thursday that Garrett claimed in his appeal to the NFL that Rudolph used a racial slur on the field prior to the altercation. Rudolph’s lawyer responded to the accusation in a statement, and claimed that the “false allegation” by Garrett was “reckless and shameful.”

On the same day, and NFL spokesman said that “the league found no evidence to support allegations that Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph.”

Prediction

Browns 23, Dolphins 17

Moneyline (?)

The Browns (-556) are overwhelming favorites, but they’re not worth the risk with such a small return on investment. If anything, the Dolphins (+400) would be worth the small-unit play, as you could quadruple your investment if they pull the upset.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on the moneyline returns a $1.80 profit with a Cleveland victory.

Against the Spread (?)

The DOLPHINS (+10.5, -110) have covered three in a row as double-digit underdogs. The Browns (-10.5, -110) have struggled in the role as a favorite, and their offense just hasn’t been hitting on all cylinders. As such, they cannot be trusted, even against a struggling team like the Dolphins.

Over/Under (?)

The UNDER 44.5 (-110) is worth a look as neither of the offenses in this game have been particularly consistent. The Under is 9-4 in the past 13 road games for Miami, and 7-3 in the past 10 against losing teams. The Under is 6-2-1 in Cleveland’s past nine against losing teams, and 18-7-1 in its past 26 at home.

3 bold predictions for Dolphins vs. Browns

Will Miami bounce back in a big way? Will Ryan Fitzpatrick continue to protect the football? There’s much to watch in Week 12.

The Miami Dolphins enter Week 12 of the NFL season looking to bounce back after a rough showing against the Buffalo Bills. Miami admirably moved the ball through the air against Buffalo, but couldn’t stop QB Josh Allen at any point — which proved to be the difference as Miami was constantly in chase mode. A loss? Not that unexpected. And a loss this week against the Cleveland Browns would hardly be a surprise either.

But there may be some surprises and big stories along the way. Here are three bold predictions for this Sunday’s contest in Cleveland.

WR Jarvis Landry finds the end zone

Is this really a bold prediction? Maybe not. You already know Jarvis Landry is going to come out hot for his first game against his former team. Landry has enjoyed a productive season for Cleveland and is averaging over 14 yards per reception this season — he’s on pace for 1,000 yards this season and has become one of the focal points of the offense.

Landry is going to get his looks. And Freddie Kitchens comes across as the kind of coach that will go out of his way to let his players stick it to the opposition. Look for a big day.

The Browns will not sack QB Ryan Fitzpatrick

The Browns still have the edge in talent, but they’ll be without three of their four starters on the defense line with Myles Garrett and Larry Ogunjobi suspended and Olivier Vernon injured. That adds up to ease the pressure on the Dolphins’ offensive line, especially against the pass. Fitzpatrick will still probably need to throw the ball a ton, but without their best threats off the edge, Cleveland should struggle to pressure Miami.

Miami wins the turnover battle but loses the war

As a result of Cleveland’s lack of rush, Fitzpatrick should be able to make crisp decisions with the football and ensure he’s going to the open man. Is ball security enough to protect the Dolphins in their contest against Cleveland? It’s doubtful — the Browns boast so much more talent than Miami at this point in the season and therefore Cleveland should wrap this thing up, even if they shoot themselves in the foot.

Dolphins Dive: Storylines for Week 12 versus the Browns

Here three key storylines to watch in Week 12 as the Dolphins face off against the Cleveland Browns.

Last Sunday, the Buffalo Bills circled the wagons in South Florida to assure the sweep of the Miami Dolphins for 2019. The Dolphins’ offensive line struggled mightily in the 37-20 loss. This week, the Dolphins look to bounce back and are going on the road to battle the Cleveland Browns — a team they haven’t faced since 2016. Miami won that game 30-24 during Week 3 of that NFL season on the strength of quarterback Ryan Tannehill outperforming Cleveland’s Cody Kessler in a shootout.

It’s now clear that the Dolphins won’t be a 10-win team in 2019 — as they were the last time they played the Browns. But don’t rule out Miami finding a way to swim past the Dawg Pound.

The receiving corps is doing more

With the recent trade of Kenyan Drake and the release of Mark Walton, the running back position has been depleted.  Consequently, the Dolphins have been more reliant on the passing game in recent weeks.

DeVante Parker had seven catches and a career-high 135 yards while Jakeem Grant broke off a 101-yard jaunt to the house on a kickoff return. Even running backs did their part in the air. Kalen Ballage caught five balls against Buffalo for his second week in a row with four or more receptions. RB Patrick Laird had a career-high six receptions.

Unconventional O-Line help

With defensive end Myles Garrett suspended indefinitely at current and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi forced to sit on Sunday due to the Browns’ brawl with the Steelers on TNF, Cleveland is down two starters that the Dolphins offensive front needn’t scheme for.

To put it in perspective, Ryan Fitzpatrick had 323 passing yards while struggling to stay upright. Imagine what he could do for the Dolphins if his protection could control Cleveland’s front seven without two of their top starters?

Jerome Baker and others rolling on D

Miami didn’t get the win at home this past Sunday, but it wasn’t because the defense wasn’t battling.  While recording a team-high 11 tackles last week, linebacker Jerome Baker continued a streak of three games where he posted eight or more tackles. Considering the Browns have running back Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb in their line up with a mediocre offensive line, there’s a good chance he extends it to four.

Honorable mention for last week goes to cornerback Nik Needam who turned in six or more tackles with two passes defended in each of his past two outings. These stat lines have contributed to him placing top among rookies in the AFC in passes defended.
