Where does Clemson rank in new AP Top 25 Poll after Saturday?

Take a look at where Clemson is ranked in the new AP Top 25 College Football Poll following Week 7.

The Clemson Tigers’ impressive 49-14 road win over Wake Forest in ACC play Saturday didn’t have any effect on their standing in the AP Top 25 College Football Poll, released Sunday.

Clemson stayed at No. 10 in this week’s AP poll, while two teams jumped ahead of Dabo Swinney’s Tigers. The LSU Tigers (5-1) moved up five spots to No. 8 in this week’s poll after their 29-26 overtime victory against rival Ole Miss in Baton Rouge, while the unbeaten Iowa State Cyclones (6-0) moved up two spots to No. 9.

Clemson moved ahead of the Tennessee Volunteers (No. 11) in the rankings after the Vols needed overtime to get past the Florida Gators 23-17. The Tigers also remained ranked ahead of Notre Dame (No. 12) and a surging BYU Cougars (6-0, No. 13) team from the Big 12.

For the second straight week, the Texas Longhorns (6-0) were No. 1 in the AP poll. The Oregon Ducks (6-0) rose to No. 2 after their thrilling 32-31 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes (5-1) at Autzen Stadium. Penn State (6-0) rose one spot to No. 3 while Ohio State dropped two spots to No. 4. The Georgia Bulldogs (5-1) rounded out the top five.

The Miami Hurricanes (6-0) stayed at No. 6 following their Week 7 bye. The ‘Canes will head to Louisville this weekend to take on the Louisville Cardinals.

Elsewhere in the ACC, the Pitt Panthers (6-0) moved up two spots to No. 20, and the SMU Mustangs (5-1) rose four spots to No. 21.

Clemson hosts Virginia this Saturday in a noon ET kickoff in Death Valley. The game will be televised on ACC Network.

Latest US LBM Coaches Poll includes two ACC teams in the top 10

The Miami Hurricanes and Clemson Tigers remain the cream of the crop in the ACC in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll.

The Duke Blue Devils didn’t make up any ground in the voting with their bye week, but four other ACC football teams kept themselves inside the top 25 of the US LBM Coaches Poll.

USA TODAY Sports released the updated rankings on Sunday, and the undefeated Miami Hurricanes and one-loss Clemson Tigers kept themselves at the forefront of the conference.

The Hurricanes got a needed bye week after fourth-quarter comebacks over Virginia Tech and California, remaining at the No. 6 spot in the rankings. The Tigers jumped two spots to ninth after a 49-14 victory over Wake Forest, anchored by a 309-yard, three-touchdown game from quarterback Cade Klubnik.

The Pittsburgh Panthers remained undefeated with a 17-15 victory over the Golden Bears thanks to 120 yards and two touchdowns from running back Desmond Reid. After breaking into the rankings for the first time last week, the Panthers rose to 20th in Sunday’s rankings.

Where Clemson football appears in ESPN’s SP+ rankings after Week 6

Here’s where Clemson ranks in ESPN’s post-Week 6 SP+ rankings after the Tigers defeated Florida State.

ESPN’s updated SP+ rankings after Week 6 of the college football season saw the Clemson Tigers move up once again.

The Tigers (4-1 overall, 3-0 ACC) rose one spot to No. 12 overall after their 29-13 victory over the Florida State Seminoles Saturday night at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee.

While Clemson’s offense stayed at No. 17 in the rankings with a 36.2 rating, its defense rose five spots to No. 23 with an 18.3 rating after limiting Florida State to less than 200 yards of total offense until the Seminoles’ final possession with the outcome well in hand. The Tigers’ defense dominated FSU in all aspects.

Clemson’s overall SP+ rating is 17.7. The Tigers are three spots behind the Miami Hurricanes at No. 9. Mario Cristobal’s team is rated as the fourth-best offense and a 43.1 rating, but their defense fell three spots to No. 36 with a 21.2 rating.

The Texas Longhorns took the top spot in this week’s SP+ rankings, followed by the Ohio State Buckeyes, Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs and Ole Miss Rebels rounding out the top five.

According to ESPN: “SP+ is intended to be predictive and forward-pacing. It is not a résumé ranking that gives credit for big wins or particularly brave scheduling — no good predictive system is. It is simply a measure of the most sustainable and predictable aspects of football. If you’re lucky or unimpressive in a win, your rating will probably fall. If you’re strong and unlucky in a loss, it will probably rise.”

Next up for Clemson

The Tigers will head to Winston-Salem this weekend for its annual ACC showdown against Wake Forest. Kickoff is set for noon ET. The game will be televised on ESPN.

Saints’ scouts have attended back-to-back Clemson games

The New Orleans Saints have had scouts including Jeff Ireland at the last two Clemson football matchups against Stanford and Florida State:

The New Orleans Saints scouting department is always out in force throughout the year, and sometimes you can get an idea of who they are looking at based on where their scouts are seen. They’re already hard at work  assembling the team’s big board of prospects for thee 2025 NFL draft.

In the last two weeks, they have been seen at Clemson matchups. Firstly, Jeff Ireland was in the press box for Clemson versus Stanford on Sept. 28 per Tiger Illustrated’s Toby Corriston. Then there were scouts from the Saints at Doak Campbell Stadium to watch Florida State against Clemson, per The State Newspaper’s Chapel Fowler.

These two matchups ended in wins for the Clemson Tigers, which, depending on whether or not the Saints were specifically there to see them or not, could be a good indication for their scouting process of certain players. As of now, some of the top prospects from Clemson are:

  • RT Blake Miller (No. 55 on PFF big board)
  • LB Barrett Carter (No. 82 on PFF big board)
  • QB Cade Klubnik (No. 161 on PFF big board)
  • TE Jake Briningstool (No. 185 on PFF big board)

Each of these positions could be positions of need no doubt, especially tight end as the production from that position has been less than expected this season. All of these four players also fit into the usual height weight metrics for the Saints, especially so for Blake Miller who registers in at 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds. We will see how this progresses throughout the season and if they are seen again at Clemson, as they recently dipped into the Tigers’ talent pool in 2023 taking Bryan Bresee.

Where college football analysts see Clemson in playoff projections, power rankings after Week 6

What they’re saying about Clemson in College Football Playoff discussions after Week 6.

For the fifth straight week, the Clemson Tigers rose in the weekly Top 25 polls, to No. 10 in the AP and to No. 11 in the US LBM Coaches Poll. It stands to reason that the Tigers also rose in various College Football Playoff projection models and power rankings.

Clemson moved into the Top 10 of ESPN’s Power Rankings following Week 6’s 29-13 victory over the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee. The Tigers landed at No. 8 in ESPN’s Power Rankings.

As for Clemson’s College Football Playoff hopes, ESPN’s Heather Dinich (subscription required) has the Tigers at No. 4 on her list of one-loss teams entering the week. Clemson trails only the Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee Volunteers in that category.

In her 12-team playoff projection following Week 6, Dinich has the Tigers at No. 9 overall. She warns that with Louisville’s loss to SMU over the weekend, Clemson may not have a single win against a Top 25 team on its resume when the selection committee meets later this year, unless No. 24 Pitt stays in the rankings.

Per Dinich:

“If Clemson doesn’t win the ACC, that will be a part of the discussion in the committee meeting room — unless the Tigers continue to dominate their opponents and leave no doubt they’re a playoff team in spite of being in a weak league.”

At On3, veteran college football writer Andy Staples still has Clemson as his pick to win the ACC and projects the Tigers as a No. 3 seed in the playoff. It’s the second week in a row that Staples has given the Tigers the nod over the Miami Hurricanes in the ACC race.

As a No. 3 seed, Clemson would face the winner of the first round game between the No. 6 seed and No. 11 seed in the Peach Bowl. Staples has the Penn State Nittany Lions as his No. 6 seed and Texas A&M Aggies as the No. 11 seed.

RELATED: Best photos of Clemson football’s Week 6 rivalry win over Florida State

247Sports’ Brad Crawford also favors Clemson to win the ACC over Miami to garner the No. 3 seed. He sees the Tigers facing the Oregon Ducks (projected No. 6 seed) in the Peach Bowl.

Over at CBS Sports, Clemson moved up one spot in analyst Jerry Palm’s updated playoff projections. Palm sees the Tigers as the No. 10 seed in the playoff field and facing Georgia in a rematch in the postseason at Sanford Stadium in Athens. The Texas Longhorns were the projected No. 1 overall seed in Palm’s predictions.

Also at CBS, Brandon Marcello moved Clemson up three spots to No. 7 in his weekly Power Rankings. The Tigers are ranked one spot ahead of Alabama at No. 8 and one spot below Penn State at No. 6.

Marcello said of Clemson:

“Dabo Swinney is officially the king of the ACC. He surpassed Bobby Bowden for the most career wins in ACC history (174) with a 29-13 victory against rival Florida State. The offense had been on a tear of late but was held under 40 points for the first time since the Week 1 loss to Georgia. Cade Klubnik still threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns, and Phil Mafah rushed for 154 yards. It’s a shame we may not see Clemson vs. Miami until the ACC Championship Game. The only nationally ranked team remaining on the schedule is Pitt.”

At The Athletic (subscription-required), analyst David Ubben lists Clemson and Miami as “definitely in” — though in no projected order of finish — on his College Football Playoff Bubble Watch.

At Fox Sports, RJ Young moved Clemson up three spots to No. 7 in his weekly Top 25 rankings. The Tigers are ranked one spot below Miami.

Next up on the schedule for Clemson are the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in a noon ET kickoff Saturday in Winston-Salem. The game will be televised on ESPN.

Best photos of Clemson football’s Week 6 rivalry win over Florida State

View the best images from the Tigers’ 29-13 win over Florida State.

The Clemson Tigers got their fourth win in a row — and their fourth straight win at Doak Campbell Stadium — on Saturday night with a 29-13 victory over the Florida State Seminoles.

Cade Klubnik threw two first-quarter touchdown passes to help the Tigers build a 17-0 lead after one quarter of play, and the defense was stout for much of the night while holding FSU to under 200 yards until the Seminoles’ last drive with the outcome long decided.

The win moved Clemson (4-1) up to No. 10 in the new AP Top 25 Poll Sunday and to No. 11 in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

The win against Florida State was also the eighth by the Tigers in the series’ last nine meetings dating back to 2015. For Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, it was his 174th career victory, making him the winningest coach in ACC football history and surpassing Bobby Bowden’s mark of 173 wins while coaching at Florida State.

With a win against a big rival, there’s always joy in taking a look at game photos. Here are some of the best photos from the Tigers’ Week 6 victory over Florida State to get to 3-0 in ACC play.

Clemson football surges into Top 10 of new AP Top 25 Poll amid huge shakeup

Take a look at where Clemson lands in the new AP Top 25 College Football Poll.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers have gradually made their way up the Top 25 rankings over the past month. That trend continued in a big way Sunday with the release of the new AP Top 25 College Football Poll.

Clemson (4-1) rose five spots to No. 10 in the AP poll following their 29-13 victory over the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday night at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. It was the Tigers’ fourth straight win as they improved to 3-0 in ACC play.

The Tigers were one of the biggest risers in this week’s AP poll after a stunning week of upsets that saw two Top-5 teams fall on the road. Three teams that had been ranked ahead of Clemson — the Missouri Tigers, Michigan Wolverines and USC Trojans — also fell on the road.

In addition to Missouri, Michigan and USC losing, Clemson also jumped past two other teams that were ranked ahead of them last week: the LSU Tigers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Both Notre Dame (No. 11) and LSU (No. 13) were idle this weekend.

RELATED: How far did Clemson rise in Week 6 US LBM Coaches Poll after massive week of upsets?

Among ranked teams, Clemson joined the Iowa State Cyclones (5-0, No. 11) and Indiana Hoosiers (6-0, No. 18) as teams that climbed five spots. The only team that made a bigger jump than Clemson in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll were the Texas A&M Aggies, who soundly defeated Missouri, 41-10. Texas A&M rose 10 spots to No. 15.

Within the top 10, the previously No. 1-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide lost 40-35 at Vanderbilt, and the Tennessee Volunteers fell 19-14 to the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville. Alabama dropped six spots to No. 7 in the AP poll; Tennessee fell four spots to No. 8.

The Texas Longhorns (5-0) were ranked No. 1 with the Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0) ranked No. 2. The Oregon Ducks rose three spots to No. 3 while the Penn State Nittany Lions (5-0) climbed three spots as well to No. 4. Georgia rounded out the top 5 at No. 5.

The Miami Hurricanes remained the ACC’s highest-ranked team at No. 6, rising two spots from last week following their fourth-quarter comeback against the California Golden Bears in Berkeley.

Elsewhere in the ACC, Pitt (No. 22, 5-0) and SMU (No. 25, 5-1) jumped into the Top 25 this week, while Louisville dropped out.

Clemson visits Wake Forest this Saturday for a noon ET kickoff in Winston-Salem. The game will be televised on ESPN.

Newest AP Poll includes two ACC teams within the top 10

After a fifth straight Pittsburgh win and a dramatic Miami comeback, the AP Poll included four ACC teams in its Week 7 rankings.

Duke football finally fell from the ranks of undefeated ACC teams on Saturday, falling to Georgia Tech 24-14 on the road, but the two remaining unbeaten teams in the conference now both reside in the AP Poll.

The Associated Press released its Week 7 rankings on Sunday, including four teams from the ACC. The Miami Hurricanes, who overcame a 35-10 deficit against the California Golden Bears on Saturday night, climbed two spots to sixth, and the Clemson Tigers rose to 10th after a 29-13 victory over the Florida State Seminoles.

The Pittsburgh Panthers did Duke football fans a huge favor this weekend, taking down the North Carolina Tar Heels for a 34-24 victory. The game handed UNC its third straight loss, but it also kept the Panthers undefeated as they debuted at 22nd in the rankings.

SMU, who upset a ranked Louisville team, rounded out the ACC representation at 25th.

With the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide losing to Vanderbilt, the Texas Longhorns returned to the top spot for the second time in three weeks.

Duke football receives no votes in US LBM Coaches Poll after first loss

After their first loss of the season on Saturday, the Duke Blue Devils received no votes in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

In the eyes of college football coaches, one loss was enough to drop the Blue Devils from the ranks of college football’s best.

USA TODAY Sports released the updated US LBM Coaches Poll on Sunday, and after receiving more than a dozen votes last week, Duke football didn’t receive a single vote.

First-year head coach Manny Diaz and his team built a 14-10 lead over Georgia Tech in the third quarter on Saturday, standing just 15 minutes from a sixth straight victory to open the season. The Yellow Jackets flipped the script this time, however, scoring two late touchdowns to come back against the comeback kids.

Duke gets a bye week, one Diaz said it desperately needs, before hosting the Florida State Seminoles on October 18.

The Miami Hurricanes rose two spots to sixth after a stunning 25-point comeback against the California Golden Bears, but Mario Cristobal’s team officially has a challenger in the conference. After a 29-13 victory over the Seminoles, the Clemson Tigers rose to 11th in the country.

Where college football analysts see Clemson in playoff projections, power rankings after Week 5

What they’re saying about Clemson in College Football Playoff discussions after Week 5.

The Clemson Tigers rose in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 poll following their 40-14 victory over the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday night, and now Dabo Swinney and his team are on the move in various college football power rankings and playoff projection models this week.

Beginning at On3, veteran college football writer Andy Staples now lists Clemson as his projected ACC champion. Staples sees the Tigers as the No. 3 overall seed in the 12-team playoff behind his projected SEC and Big Ten champions: the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Ohio State Buckeyes, respectively.

Staples wrote:

” The Tigers keep pounding opponents. Saturday, they beat Stanford 40-14. The season-opening loss to Georgia is still a stain on the schedule, but Clemson has done all it can possibly do since. And if the Tigers keep playing like this, they can win the ACC and snag a first-round bye.”

As a No. 3 seed, Clemson would face the winner of the first round game between the No. 6 seed and No. 11 seed in the Peach Bowl.

RELATED: Best photos of Clemson football’s Week 5 win over Stanford

Over at CBS Sports, Clemson moved up one spot in Jerry Palm’s updated bowl/playoff projections. The veteran college sports prognosticator still sees the Miami Hurricanes as ACC champions but moved the Tigers up one spot into the No. 11 seed.

In Palm’s new playoff field after Week 5, he sees Clemson facing the Oregon Ducks in a first round playoff game in Eugene.

Also at CBS Sports, Chip Patterson moved the Tigers up five spots to No. 11 in his ranking of all 134 FBS teams this week.

At The Athletic ($), analyst Chris Vannini moved Clemson up four spots to No. 13 in his 134-team FBS rankings. Vannini argues that, given the way Clemson has played since its 66-20 victory over Appalachian State in Week 2, Georgia’s lopsided season-opening win over the Tigers looks more impressive for Kirby Smart’s team.

Over at ESPN, analysts Chris Low, Bill Connelly, David Hale, Andrea Adelson and others moved the Tigers up three spots to No. 11 in their Week 5 Power Rankings ($) The three teams Clemson jumped past were the Ole Miss Rebels, Utah Utes and Louisville Cardinals — all teams who suffered a loss over the weekend.

Adelson wrote of Clemson:

“The Tigers did not get off to as fast a start on offense as their previous two games, but you would never know it if you just looked at the 40-14 final against Stanford. The Cardinal played Clemson much tougher at the outset, before eventually being worn down. Cade Klubnik scored five total touchdowns and now has 16 touchdowns in the past three wins.

“The defense gave up an uncharacteristic 236 yards rushing (5.4 yards per carry) but made plays when it mattered, including forcing three turnovers and three fourth-down stops. Next up is a trip to Florida State, where former Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei awaits. Clemson sits 2-0 in the ACC with a schedule that looks more manageable by the week.”

At Fox Sports, RJ Young has given Clemson its highest overall Top 25 ranking the past two weeks. After Saturday’s victory, Young moved Clemson into the top 10 of his weekly rankings at No. 10.

Next up on the schedule for the Tigers are the Florida State Seminoles in a prime time 7 p.m. ET kickoff Saturday night at Doak Campbell Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN.
