Ranking Clemson FB players based on On3’s NIL evaluation

Eighteen Tigers have NIL evaluations in the six figures.

While Clemson hasn’t made the most noise in the name, image and likeness world, the school’s athletes have still taken advantage of the opportunity.

Clemson football players have been in the headlines recently because of their deals. Sophomore quarterback Cade Klubnik signed a deal with Beats by Dre in August. Last month, running back Will Shipley partnered with Chipotle and had the downtown Clemson Chipotle location briefly named “Shipotle.”

Last updated on Wednesday, On3’s NIL evaluation algorithm uses a player’s national licensing and sponsorship market, as well as roster value, to calculate an estimated money amount for that player. Some of the college football players with the top evaluations include Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Texas’ Arch Manning and USC’s Caleb Williams.

That said, here are the top Clemson football players with the highest NIL evaluations based on On3’s algorithm:

Clemson athletes to be featured on college trading cards

Clemson athletes will continue to profit off of their name, image and likeness after Fanatics announced that it will be producing college trading cards beginning this fall.

Many Clemson athletes have taken advantage of name, image and likeness (NIL) deals over the past year, and now some will have the opportunity to see their faces on college trading cards.

According to ESPN’s Dan Hajducky, the collectible company Topps will release trading cards featuring over 100 athletes, including Alabama’s Bryce Young and Georgia’s Stetson Bennett, beginning in 2023. These non-exclusive deals will allow the athletes to directly profit off of their NIL, with varying monetary values based on the player.

Meanwhile, Topps has also secured multi-year exclusive rights with more than 35 colleges. Although some schools will begin their involvement as early as 2023, others, such as Clemson and Alabama, will enter the deal in 2025. With these exclusive deals, official university trademarks will be used for current and former players.

Fanatics, who acquired Topps in January, believes this new trading card endeavor can be lucrative for all parties.

“Fanatics has been closely monitoring the ever-evolving NIL landscape, and we felt this was the perfect time to launch multiple, strategic college trading card programs that will allow schools and current student-athletes to create new levels of direct engagement with fans across hundreds of the top programs nationwide,” said Derek Eiler, Executive Vice President of Fanatics College.

As for Clemson athletes, one person who could be featured on the cards is quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who has previously signed deals with Bojangles and Dr. Pepper and is under Michael Vick’s advisement for future NIL deals.

Newest Clemson collective signs first two NIL deals

Clemson continues to make progress in the NIL game, with a new collective signing its first two deals since officially launching one week ago.

The Clemson community seems to be progressively adapting to the new ways of college athletics day by day.

According to its Twitter account, Dear Old Clemson has signed its first two NIL deals with Clemson softball pitcher Mille Thompson and shortstop Alia Logoleo. The pair helped lead the Tigers to their first super regionals appearance in program history this year before they ultimately fell to Oklahoma State in two games.

Founded by two Clemson alumni, Dear Old Clemson serves as a collective aiming to do NIL “the Clemson way” while benefitting student-athletes. According to its initial press release on June 2, “The collective compensates Clemson student-athletes for attending events, promoting businesses, signing collectibles, sales of collectibles and interacting with members in person and virtually.”

Both Logoleo and Thompson had impressive postseason performances for the Tigers, with Logoleo batting 6-for-10 in the ACC Championship while Thompson pitched a five-inning no-hitter in the Clemson Regional. With the initial success of Clemson’s softball program, which has only had two full seasons, the athletes seem to be now benefiting financially off of the field.
