The cornerback prospect who collected Clemson’s first offer at his position, when the Tigers began dispensing offers to class of 2024 recruits back on June 1, was in attendance at Death Valley for the NC State game last Saturday.

Carrollwood Day (Tampa, Fla.) four-star Tavoy Feagin made the trip to Tiger Town over the weekend with his parents and little brother.

“I really enjoyed the visit,” Feagin told The Clemson Insider. “I enjoy it every time I go.”

Feagin previously visited Clemson this summer after also traveling to campus for an unofficial visit in the spring.

The night-game atmosphere at Death Valley during Clemson’s 30-20 win over NC State left a big impression on the 6-foot, 175-pound junior.

“Something that stood out would be how crazy the atmosphere was,” he said.

While on campus, Feagin spent plenty of time with cornerbacks coach Mike Reed, as well as head man Dabo Swinney.

What did he hear from the coaches?

“Me and Coach Reed talked about a lot of things,” Feagin said, “but what the whole message was, this is a spot where he’s not scared to play his freshmen.”

“And Coach Swinney truly feels like I can fit perfectly with the program,” he added.

Feagin’s father, Michael, was a defensive back at Alabama in the 1990s when Swinney was on the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff.

The Tide have also offered Feagin, along with schools such as Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

Clemson appears to be in a great spot with the priority cornerback target coming out of Saturday’s visit.

“This visit really just made Clemson even better,” he said. “They’re already a place I can call home and this visit really put a cherry on the top.”

Feagin told TCI he hopes to return to Clemson for the Miami game on Nov. 19.

He is ranked as a top-100 national prospect in the 2024 class, regardless of position, by both 247Sports (No. 73) and Rivals (No. 98).

Swinney praises Death Valley atmosphere, calls it ‘unbelievable recruiting advantage’

During his weekly Monday call-in radio show, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney raved about the atmosphere at Death Valley during the fifth-ranked Tigers’ 30-20 victory over then-No. 10 NC State last Saturday night.

“It’s never been better,” Swinney said. “It’s 2022. I mean, it’s amazing.”

Swinney gave props to Clemson fans for showing up, being loud and playing their part in making things difficult for the Wolfpack.

“I tell ya, our fans are amazing,” he said. “To come around on that bus, because the players always kind of notice, when you pull around and you kind of see if those upper corners are full – I mean, it was packed. It was just an amazing energy, and just the engagement of the fans, the roar of the fans – they were awesome, especially in the fourth quarter.

“The Valley was a factor. It is such an advantage that we have. It’s amazing.”

Not only does the Death Valley environment give the Tigers an edge in competition, but Swinney noted that it’s also significant from a recruiting standpoint as well in making a great impression on prospects in attendance.

“It’s amazing, and an unbelievable recruiting advantage and opportunity, and I hope our fans understand that,” he said. “It really is. You get kids on campus, and the energy from your crowd, the engagement, it makes a huge difference. It really does.”

Swinney added that Tiger fans “set the tone” on Saturday.

“Just a great night in The Valley, and our fans were there. They set the tone,” he said. “The Tiger Walk was awesome. You could feel the intensity from the fans, and just one of those fun nights.”

Goodwin has message for recruits regarding Clemson’s gameday atmosphere

It’s no secret that this past weekend was one of Clemson’s biggest recruiting weekends of the regular season, if not the biggest.

Dabo Swinney and staff played host to a number of priority prospects, as Clemson hosted more than half of the prospects that it has offered in the class of 2024. Among notable prospects in attendance were a handful of five-stars in the 2024 and 2025 class, respectively, in Jefferson (Ga.) linebacker Sammy Brown, Buford (Ga.) athlete KJ Bolden and Buford (Ga.) linebacker Jadon Perlotte.

Also in attendance were top defensive back prospects in Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day School four-star Tavoy Feagin and Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith four-star Asaad Brown.

That’s why it was imperative for Clemson to put together its best and most complete defensive performance of the season.

The Tigers held NC State to less than 290 total yards and 4 yards per play. Most importantly for Clemson, it wasn’t beat over the top with nearly the regularity that it was seven days earlier. The Wolfpack hit on a 32-yard completion, their longest play of the night, on their opening possession, but Clemson allowed just one more play in excess of 20 yards the rest of the night

Clemson’s defense also held NC State to just 34 yards on 21 carries Saturday, as the Tigers are now ranked No. 2 nationally in run defense.

During his weekly Monday media availability, The Clemson Insider asked Wesley Goodwin just how big it was for his defense to have its

“Yeah, no question, and just the atmosphere, it was electric in there,” Clemson’s defensive coordinator said. “The credit goes to our fans. They showed up, showed out. Just the atmosphere with all the lights going, I mean there’s not a better gameday atmosphere than that.”

As the reactions from Saturday’s visit continue to come in, recruits have seemed to echo what Goodwin pointed out Monday.

Nation’s top LB talks latest visit, what appeals most about Clemson

The country’s top-ranked linebacker in the 2024 recruiting class returned to Tiger Town last weekend.

After attending Clemson’s home opener against Furman on Sept. 10, Jefferson (Ga.) five-star Sammy Brown was back on campus for the Tigers’ 30-20 victory over NC State at Death Valley on Saturday night.

“Really enjoyed getting back for a night game and really being able to experience a game in Death Valley under the lights,” Brown told The Clemson Insider. “The fans (Saturday) night were unbelievable, more electric than any other time. They were super loud and passionate about the game.”

Brown, who received Clemson’s first class of 2024 offer back in March, made Saturday’s visit with his parents.

“They both enjoyed it very much and really liked catching up with all the staff and coaches,” he said. “There are a lot of connections there because my parents went to Furman when a lot of those coaches were there. Coach (Joey) Batson, the strength coach, was my dad’s coach at Furman.”

Speaking of the coaches, what did Brown hear from head man Dabo Swinney, defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin and other members of the Tigers’ staff on Saturday?

“Really a lot of the conversations with the coaches were just catching up,” he said. “Even with all the chaos going on it was good to catch up with them and just be able to talk about stuff other than recruiting.”

Brown gave his thoughts on Clemson’s 5-0 start to the season and what he saw Saturday from Goodwin’s defense, which recorded three sacks, two turnovers and held NC State to only 34 rushing yards on 21 carries.

“They have been playing lights out all year,” he said of the Tigers. “They’ve battled adversity in multiple different ways and have stepped up to the challenge.

“I thought the defense played very good against a solid NC State offense and proved their worth, especially considering the situation with the DBs.”

The Tigers are one of many prominent suitors for Brown, whose extensive list of more than two dozen offers also includes schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Tennessee, to name some.

When it comes to Clemson as a college option under consideration, the 6-foot-2, 227-pound junior said it’s “definitely” the culture that appeals to him the most.

“They’ve got one of the best cultures in college football and are definitely doing the right thing,” he said. “Coach Swinney has been solid on his way of doing things because it’s worked. They’re a very family driven program and relationships are very important. That’s something that me and my parents can appreciate.”

Brown is ranked as the nation’s No. 1 linebacker in the 2024 class by both 247Sports and the 247Sports Composite rankings. He is tabbed as the No. 5 overall prospect in the country for his class by 247Sports, while the 247Sports Composite considers him the No. 9 overall prospect nationally.

Brown traveled to Tennessee for its game vs. Florida on Sept. 24 and visited Ohio State for its Sept. 3 season opener against Notre Dame. He told TCI he thinks his next trip will be to Georgia, but he doesn’t have anything planned beyond that as of now.

Grisham set to check out 2025 Ohio QB

The Clemson Insider has learned through a source that Tyler Grisham will be traveling to Ohio ahead of the team’s game against Boston College this Saturday. Clemson’s wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator will be on hand to watch Findlay (Ohio) 2025 quarterback Ryan Montgomery, who has emerged as a prime sophomore target for the Tigers.

Clemson is said to be doing a good job in its pursuit of Ryan, who is the younger brother of one of the nation’s top offensive linemen in Luke Montgomery, an Ohio State pledge. Clemson was a finalist in Luke’s recruitment but wasn’t able to beat the allure that a program like Ohio State has on an in-state prospect.

As for Ryan, he’s been in contact with Brandon Streeter and has had several calls with Clemson’s offensive coordinator.

It’s likely that Ryan, who already holds several Power Five offers from schools like Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and Tennessee, will be in attendance with his parents for Clemson’s matchup against Louisville at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 12.

New class of 2023 developments

We have some information to pass along regarding two Peach State prospects that Clemson is pursuing in the class of 2023.

Over a week after reporting an offer from Clemson, Bogart (Ga.) North Oconee three-star defensive back Khalil Barnes took to Twitter to announce that he would be reopening his recruitment, and so walking back his pledge from the Demon Deacons.

Barnes has talked pretty candidly about his affinity for Dabo Swinney’s program and his relationship with Mickey Conn. Once Clemson’s co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach pulled the trigger on a scholarship offer, this seemed like a development that could arise, but Barnes was still committed to Wake Forest at the time.

“It was definitely crazy. I’m blessed,” he said when asked about his reaction to receiving an offer. “I was really happy where I was…I was just kind of in the moment. I was just proud and I knew how hard I had worked for it. It was cool to finally get that one. Coach Conn gave me something to think about, but I just want to focus on helping my team win a state championship.”

Conn brought up a conversation that he had with Barnes and his father back in June.

In that conversation, which Barnes detailed in an interview with TCI, Conn was honest and upfront about Clemson’s intentions. According to Barnes, Conn said that he would totally understand if they both hated him and Clemson, after having not pulled the trigger on an offer at the time.

”Just knowing that he remembered that conversation vividly and was able to be a man of his word and produce the offer, it shows what kind of man he is,” Barnes said of Conn.

Now, there remains a good chance that Barnes will have the opportunity to play for Conn at the next level.

The next target we wanted to touch on is Meadowcreek (Norcross, Ga.) three-star running back Jordan Louie. We can tell you that Clemson stopped by the West Virginia pledge’s school this past Friday.

He recently told TCI that the Tigers are starting to show a lot of interest in him.

Back in March, he informed TCI that he sent his film to both CJ Spiller and Tyler Grisham because he plays both running back and wide receiver. According to Louie, Grisham told him that his film was impressive.

Louie told us he’s looking to visit for a game and that Clemson will potentially give him an opportunity to be on the team.

We’ll keep an eye on this development as Clemson keeps its option available at the running back position.

OL target has ‘awesome’ visit to Clemson

Among the many top prospects in attendance for Clemson’s top-10 win over NC State on Saturday night was this priority offensive line target.

Tuscarora (Leesburg, Va.) four-star Fletcher Westphal took an unofficial visit to Death Valley for the Tigers’ 30-20 victory over the Wolfpack.

“It was awesome,” Westphal told TCI in a message. “I got there early and they toured me around the campus and I could see the fans already set up at 1:30 pm tailgating. The excitement was already building that early. It just kept building closer it got to game time.

“I got to meet the team at the top of the hill at the rock before they enter the field before the game. That was crazy. One of my friends saw me on TV in the crowd.”

Westphal also got to spend a good amount of time with both offensive line coach Thomas Austin and offensive player development coach Tyrone Crowder, which he said he didn’t expect.

Originally Westphal was supposed to visit for the Louisville game on Nov. 12 but elected to travel down to Clemson this past weekend instead.

“I was planning for a November visit, but I’m definitely glad I made this game!” he said.

Update on nation’s No. 1 LB after latest Clemson visit

Clemson again played host to the nation’s top-ranked linebacker in the 2024 class this past weekend.

Jefferson (Ga.) five-star Sammy Brown returned to Tiger Town to take in the NC State game. He made the trip with his mom and dad, both of whom he said enjoyed the visit “very much and really liked catching up with all the staff and coaches.”

Brown also attended Clemson’s home opener against Furman, where both of his parents went to college when different members of the Tigers’ staff were there. So there’s a lot of connections between Clemson staffers and Brown’s parents, including Joey Batson, Clemson’s longtime director of strength training who previously served as the first full-time director of strength training at Furman.

Brown told TCI he really enjoyed getting back to Clemson for a night game and being able to experience a game at Death Valley under the lights. “The fans (Saturday) night were unbelievable, more electric than any other time,” he said.

We asked Brown, who has visited campus numerous times, what most appeals to him about Clemson when he thinks about it as a potential college option. He said, “Definitely their culture.”

“They’ve got one of the best cultures in college football and are definitely doing the right thing,” he said.

Brown traveled to Tennessee for its game vs. Florida on Sept. 24 and visited Ohio State for its Sept. 3 season opener against Notre Dame. He told us he thinks his next trip will be to Georgia but he doesn’t have anything else planned besides that as of now.

Clemson visit puts cherry on top for top cornerback target

The cornerback prospect who collected Clemson’s first offer at his position when the Tigers began dispensing offers to 2024 recruits back in June was on hand at Death Valley for the NC State game.

Carrollwood Day (Tampa, Fla.) four-star Tavoy Feagin made the trip to Tiger Town over the weekend with his parents and little brother. He told TCI that he “really enjoyed the visit” and “how crazy the atmosphere was” stood out to him.

Feagin spent plenty of time with cornerbacks coach Mike Reed, as well as Dabo Swinney. According to Feagin, Clemson’s head coach told him that he truly feels like Feagin would be a perfect fit with the Tigers’ program.

Feagin’s father, Michael, was a defensive back at Alabama in the 1990s when Swinney was on the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff.

On Sunday, Feagin seemed to hint that Alabama shouldn’t necessarily be considered the sure bet to land his commitment just because of his dad’s ties to the Tide. Feagin tweeted, “My dad had his time, now it’s time for me to make my own decisions.”

We believe the Tigers are in a great spot with Feagin coming out of the weekend’s visit, which he told TCI “really just made Clemson even better,” adding that Clemson is “already a place I can call home and this visit really put a cherry on the top.”

Feagin told us he hopes to return to Clemson for the Miami game on Nov. 19.

He is ranked as high as the No. 73 overall prospect in the 2024 class by 247Sports.

5-star ATH very impressed by Death Valley

A five-star prospect, regarded as one of the best players in the 2024 class regardless of position, came away very impressed by the environment at Death Valley during Clemson’s 30-20 victory over NC State.

Buford (Ga.) High School athlete Khalil “KJ” Bolden (pictured above) gave Death Valley rave reviews in a comment to The Clemson Insider.

“The atmosphere was electric,” he said. “Words can’t explain how much energy was in this stadium. I’m talking before the kickoff and after the game. This has to be one of the best CFB environments to play in. Go Tigers.”

Bolden, who received an offer from Clemson back on June 1, is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the nation’s No. 1 safety and No. 4 overall prospect in the country for the 2024 class.

One of the nation’s top athletes gets first feel for Clemson

Clemson played host to one of the nation’s top prospects in the class of 2024 for its top-10 showdown against NC State on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Memorial Stadium.

Buford (Ga.) four-star edge rusher/tight end KingJoseph Edwards was in attendance for Clemson’s 30-20 win over NC State this past weekend.

Edwards, a 6-foot-5, 242-pound junior, who is considered to be the nation’s No. 4 athlete and No. 12 overall prospect in the class of 2024, recapped his first game day experience in The Valley in an interview with The Clemson Insider.

“It was a good game,” Edwards wrote in a message. “To see two teams who were undefeated go for it play for play is always great to see. Ultimately, Clemson was better at moving the ball. The defense was strapped and they ended up winning with no problem, very impressive. The defense is physically aggressive. They did a really good job.”

What did Edwards enjoy the most about his first Clemson experience?

“Speaking with Coach Ski, looking at campus and the energy of the fans during the game!” he said.

Edwards was finally able to meet with Clemson defensive ends coach Lemanski Hall, who reached out to him less than 24 hours after the clock struck midnight on Sept. 1, when college coaches could begin directly contacting juniors in the class of 2024 like himself.

“I’m the type of player he’s looking for,” Edwards said when asked what he was able to hear from Hall. “He asked if I preferred DE over TE and I told him I currently play both sides and don’t have a preference yet.”

Now that Edwards was finally able to take in his first unofficial visit to Clemson, what is just his overall impressions of the program?

“A very good program,” he said. “Focused on academics and the success of players, after football isn’t an option anymore. They speak about football not lasting forever and creating a platform for you to be successful, even after you finish playing.”

Among the many top prospects in attendance for Clemson’s top-10 win over NC State on Saturday night was this priority local offensive line target.

Greenville (S.C.) High School four-star Blake Franks took an unofficial visit to Death Valley for the Tigers’ 30-20 victory over the Wolfpack.

“The visit was great,” he told The Clemson Insider. “I really enjoyed the energy of the crowd and the run down the hill.”

Franks, a 6-foot-5, 310-pound junior in the class of 2024, made the short trip to Tiger Town with his mother.

“She enjoyed the crowd,” Franks said of his mom’s visit experience. “She also loved the distance from home.”

What did they hear from Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney while on campus?

“Coach Swinney talked about the program and how much he loves being there personally,” Franks said.

Franks, who participated in the Swinney Camp this past summer and has visited Clemson multiple times since this past March, received an offer from the Tigers in late July.

He holds more than a dozen scholarship offers in total, including offers from schools such as Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State and South Carolina along with Clemson.

Where do the Tigers stand with Franks in his recruitment following Saturday’s game-day visit to campus?

“I would say that I know Clemson is in my top eight,” he said, “and they might even be in my top five.”

Up next for Franks are visits to Alabama (Oct. 8), Florida (Oct. 15) and Florida State (Oct. 29).

Clemson will get at least one more visit from him before season’s end.

“I know I’ll be there for Clemson vs. USC (on Nov. 26),” he said, “but I don’t know, I might be back sooner than that.”

Franks is rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals, which considers him the No. 4 prospect in the Palmetto State and No. 8 offensive guard nationally for the 2024 class.

‘Nothing’s been like it’: Lone Star State tight end enjoys first Clemson gameday experience

Among one of the more notable recruits that were in attendance for Clemson’s top-1o showdown against NC State on Saturday. Oct. 1, was Taylor (Katy, Texas) three-star tight end Ian Flynt. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound junior in the class of 2024 caught up …

Among one of the more notable recruits that were in attendance for Clemson’s top-1o showdown against NC State on Saturday. Oct. 1, was Taylor (Katy, Texas) three-star tight end Ian Flynt.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound junior in the class of 2024 caught up with The Clemson Insider regarding his time in The Valley on Saturday.

“I enjoyed a lot of it,” Flynt said regarding his time at Clemson Saturday. “I spent a lot of time learning from Coach (Kyle) Richardson and Coach (John) Grass, mainly just hitting on some points on the program and how Coach Swinney runs everything. It was all positive from there.”

“I’ve been to a lot of places, but they’ve got quite the facilities,” he added. “I’ve been to a couple of schools and nothing’s been like it. The tailgating was absolutely crazy. They had people tailgating on every square inch of campus. I could tell how full the stadium was.”

That wasn’t the only thing that grabbed Flynt’s attention. The energy from Clemson’s sold-out crowd at Memorial Stadium Saturday was palpable. It was like nothing that he’s ever experienced before.

“That was awesome,” he said of the atmosphere in Death Valley. “I really enjoyed the running down the hill. It was super energetic. That was one of my favorite parts. But, the energy from the whole crowd was crazy. The stadium was moving. I’ve never seen so many people lined up behind one time.”

During Clemson’s 10-point victory, Flynt got to see just how Richardson and Brandon Streeter utilized the right end position. Jake Briningstool and Davis Allen combined for nine catches with 75 yards and a touchdown.

It was a good game for a tight end prospect with interest in Clemson, to be at.

“They use them the way I think a tight end should run,” Flynt said. “They’re heavy in the box and they got them out in the open a couple of times and they made a big difference in that game.”

Flynt said that Richardson made it very clear that Clemson was interested in him as a prospect.

“They told me that the relationship is what they’re trying to form right now and they want to see me in person,” he said. “I enjoy that because it helps them, but it also helps me. I get a lot from it. I get to learn what kind of coach Dabo is and the same thing with Coach Richardson. It’s only gonna be good for both of us.”

What would it mean for Flynt and his recruitment if Clemson presented him with a future scholarship offer?

“That would be awesome,” Flynt said. “Clemson, I’ve always looked up to that school. I grew up watching Deshaun (Watson) and Trevor Lawrence win championships and they run the tight end pretty well.”
