Clemson Labeled as a Loser from College Football’s 2024 Recruiting Cycle by 247Sports

According to 247Sports, Clemson is a loser from the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Clemson has a strong 2024 recruiting class, but it wasn’t strong enough for 247Sports to label them a winner from the recruiting cycle

Rather, Clemson has been named a loser in the 2024 recruiting cycle, and the explanation for the label is… interesting. From their perspective, Clemson being outside of the top 10 can’t be happening.

Typically, Clemson wins in recruiting. They win with top players. They landed two top players this cycle. That list usually has 5-10. When you look at the middle of the pack guys, they have developmental players. I’m not saying that they don’t have players that can help them win. But this is Clemson. They beat Alabama twice in the national championship game. They’re taking a step backward. They should be in the top 5; now they’re out of the top 10.

Let’s talk about this for a second. Clemson is No.11 in the country according to 247Sports rankings, but with the way this writer is speaking, you’d assume they are off the face of the planet and have a recruiting class outside of the top 20. They are right there at No.11, and this class has some excellent talent.

Let’s also reflect on the past. Is this class as highly touted as one of the past? No… but neither was their 2023 class, which ranked No.11 for 247Sports. If being ranked 11 was such a big deal, wouldn’t Clemson’s 2023 class have also suffered? There were even rumblings from analysts saying exactly this last year, and what happened? Well, what happened was that Clemson had one of the best and most impactful freshmen classes in the country.

While I understand the expectation side of things, I would not label Clemson a loser from this recruiting cycle. The talent is there, and this coaching staff has proven they can assess talent at an elite level.

Clemson adds second preferred walk-on commitment of the day in wide receiver Clark Sanderson

Today, Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers added two wide receivers to their 2024 class.

Dabo Swinney and the coaching staff added a second commitment at wide receiver today after the commitment of Parker Fulghum

The latest is Mountain Brook (Ala.) High School wide receiver Clark Sanderson, who took to social media Friday to announce that he has accepted a preferred walk-on opportunity from the Tigers. Clemson needed more depth at wide receiver in this 2024 class, and they got it today.

According to MaxPreps, Sanderson recorded 44 receptions for 936 yards and six touchdowns in 2023 as a senior. He earned All-South Metro honors for his performance.

These are exactly the type of moves the Tigers needed to round out their 2024 recruiting class, as Clemson has two studs in five-star wide receiver Bryant Wesco and four-star T.J. Moore but had no other commitments at the position. Depth was needed, and they got there guys.

Clemson offers 2024 Alabama linebacker prospect

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers offer a 2024 Alabama linebacker.

Clemson isn’t done in the 2024 recruiting class, with a prospect announcing an offer from the Tigers.

Helena (Ala.) High School linebacker Joseph Roberto took to social media to announce that he has received an offer from Swinney and the Tigers. His offer is a preferred walk-on offer, with the Tigers limited with scholarships.

No surprise that the Tigers are targeting a linebacker here, as there is still a lot of work and development that needs to be done in the unit. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound senior has offers from schools such as Georgia Tech, Maryland, Washington State, and Charlotte.

This will be one to monitor, as the Tigers have had great success with walk-on players.

ESPN on Clemson’s big additions at wide receiver in the 2024 class

Clemson got some much-needed help at wide receiver in the 2024 recruiting class.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson coaching staff did an excellent job recruiting in the 2024 class, with two of their biggest additions coming at a position of desperate need.

The Tigers hit in a huge way at wide receiver, landing five-star Bryant Wesco and four-star TJ Moore. According to ESPN, these two are the No.25 and No.92 overall players in the class. ESPN recently released an article discussing the most important recruit for each top 25 team ($$$), with Clemson having the two wide receivers named for them.

Clemson needs playmakers at receiver to give quarterback Cade Klubnik more help. The team finished the year ranked No. 62 among all FBS teams in passing yards per game, so adding in Wesco and Moore is a huge help. The coaches lost Beaux Collins, who was second on the team in receiving yards, to Notre Dame, and the player with the most receiving touchdowns on the team this past season was tight end Jake Briningstool with five. Wesco and Moore have an opportunity to make an impact early based on need and their ability.

The Tigers desperately need playmakers, and it looks like they have two in this recruiting class. Wesco is the one people are most excited about, but Moore’s tape has me believing he will be just as big of a contributor to this team sooner rather than later.

These two could be immediate impact players for the Clemson offense.

Clemson lands commitment from Peach State safety, flips from App State

Clemson landed a Peach State safety after flipping his commitment from App State.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers have flipped a three-star safety who was originally committed to App State.

Rome (Ga.) 2024 safety Joe Wilkinson took to social media Tuesday to announce his commitment to play at Clemson. Wilkinson took an official visit to Clemson this weekend, and the Tigers’ must have left an impression.

Wilkinson de-committed from App State on Sunday, giving the Tigers a window to land the Peach State safety. According to 247Sports composite rankings, Wilkinson is the No.187 safety and the No.1899 overall player in the 2024 class.

Clemson now has 19 total commitments in their 2024 class, and we should expect a few more commitments down the line.

Clemson flips 2024 three-star offensive line recruit

Clemson has flipped the commitment of a 2024 three-star offensive lineman.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers have had a hot start to December in recruiting, landing multiple commitments and now flipping a recruit.

Daniel (S.C.) three-star offensive lineman Watson Young announced via Twitter/X that he is now committed to play for Swinney and Clemson. He was originally committed to Appalachian State, but the Tigers flipped his commitment.

According to 247Sports composite rankings, Young is the No.27 player in South Carolina, No.153 interior offensive lineman, and No.1,982 overall player in the 2024 class. He is the second in-state commitment for the Tigers today, with Amare Adams announcing his commitment as well.

Clemson continues to recruit well and will look to continue to do so as the 2024 cycle continues.

Clemson offensive line target commits to Illinois

A Clemson offensive line target has committed to Illinois.

Clemson has missed out on a 2024 offensive line target as he has committed to Illinois.

Mt. Pleasant (Mich.) four-star Andrew Dennis took to social media Monday afternoon to announce his decision, with the Fighting Illini being the ones to land the highly touted offensive linemen. This comes two weeks after Dennis took an official visit to Clemson for the Clemson vs. North Carolina State.

According to 247Sports rankings, Dennis is the No.5 interior offensive lineman and the No.159 overall player in the 2024 class. He had crystal ball predictions for Illinois and Michigan State before announcing his decision. Clemson will have to look elsewhere in the 2024 class as the offensive line is a big need for the Tigers.

Clemson makes the top 5 for a 2024 OL target

Clemson has made the top 5 for an offensive line target in the 2024 class.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program still have some work to do recruiting in their 2024 class, with an offensive line target announcing Clemson as one of his top 5 choices.

McDonough, Georgia, three-star offensive tackle Favour Edwin took to Twitter/X to announce his top 5 with Clemson making the cut. The Tigers are competing with Georgia Tech, Alabama, Florida, and Auburn for his commitment.

According to 247Sports composite rankings, Edwin is the No.60 offensive tackle and No.792 overall player in the 2024 class. He received his offer from Clemson in September during the Florida State weekend. He is currently crystalballed to Auburn, but with no crystal ball from 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong, the Tigers are definitely still in the hunt.

A Clemson safety commit forced two turnovers in his high school team’s 2023 season opener on Saturday.

Playing for Northside High School (Warner Robbins, Georgia), Ricardo Jones grabbed two interceptions, helping his team secure a 33-21 win.

Jones is a four-star recruit, the No. 14 safety prospect and the No. 168 overall recruit in the class of 2024, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He announced his pledge to the Tigers in June and is one of three safeties committed to Clemson in the 2024 cycle.

Clemson lands a commitment from two-way prospect Talan Bell

Erik Bakich and the Tigers land a two-way prospect in the 2024 class.

Erik Bakich and the Clemson baseball program have been hard at work building the Tigers’ future, and a piece of that future has announced his commitment to the program.

Two-way 2024 recruit Talan Bell announced his commitment to the Tigers via Twitter/X, adding to the Clemson 2024 class. According to Perfect Game, Bell is a “true two-way prospect w/ clean stroke, good athleticism, & three pitches for strikes, projects in every way.”

He was recently named a Perfect Game All-American, one of the country’s best players. Bakich has been excellent in his short time with the Tigers bringing in top talent from across the country in recruiting and the transfer portal.
