Boston Celtics release new Bill Russell-inspired 2022-23 City Edition jerseys

The new designs incorporate multiple tributes to the Boston legend’s legacy, and will be worn on opening night.

The Boston Celtics have officially released their 2022-23 season “City Edition” jerseys, designed to commemorate the career of recently-passed Celtics Hall of Fame big man Bill Russell that ” features a gold motif symbolizing his incomparable career” according to a recent press release circulated by the team.

Noting “it was the barriers that he broke not only on the court, as the first Black head coach and a member of the first all-Black starting five, but off the court that truly made him ‘The Gold Standard,'” the team describes Russell’s legacy “a consistent reminder of what it truly means to be a Celtic.”

The Celtics shared that the man himself had been involved in helping design the uniforms before he passed this July, which will be worn on Opening Night against the Philadelphia 76ers, and on a second night to honor him — Feb. 2, his birthday, in a game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Have the Boston Celtics’ 2022-23 City Edition jerseys leaked?

Images and video are circulating online — but are they real (and good)?

Has yet another re-design of a Boston Celtics jersey leaked to the world? We have seen both video and photo evidence that this may be the case, with a bit of a mixed reaction to both from people commenting on how the supposed leak of the team’s 2022-23 “City Edition” jersey looks.

While some traditional elements are to be found in this jersey in the primarily green, white, gold, and black colorway the leak sports, the specific colors are off from those usually used in Celtics jerseys, with an almost cartoonish cursive font for the main text and side panels with a pea green color evoking the Milwaukee Bucks or even the Seattle Supersonics.

Sure to spark more contentious arguments about whether the jersey re-designs are too much, too many, or in good taste, we’ll be keeping an eye out for some concrete reporting that these are not, in fact, a hoax.

OKC Thunder rumors: Potential jersey leak for next season surfaces Twitter

Thoughts on the potential new jersey for the Thunder next season?

A potential NBA jersey leak for all 30 teams surfaced on Twitter Tuesday morning. This included the Oklahoma City Thunder’s potential new jersey includes it being dark grey with blue lettering. OKC Tracker did a phenomenal job at painting a clearer picture as to what the jersey might look like by improving the resolution of it. The Thunder has four sets of uniforms in Association, Icon, Statement and City Editions.

If the leaks are true, then the Thunder’s new jersey next season is very on-brand for the team considering its history of alternate uniforms. An announcement for when the NBA officially releases is unknown for now, so it might be a while before there is confirmation on these leaks.

Jaylen Brown, Tacko Fall, Grant Williams model official City Edition jerseys

Check out how the new City Edition jerseys REALLY look.

The Boston Celtics have released images of their players sporting the official 2020-21 City Edition jerseys, and we have to say they look pretty solid.

Not flashy, not deep — but good, simple, and uncomplicated.

After their failed attempt at celebrating the city’s Irish heritage and having fans rightfully point out it was both heavy-handed in how it tried to do so and unnecessarily excluding much of the city’s contemporary identity, this was probably the right pivot — an aspect of shared heritage we can all get behind.

And in case it isn’t obvious (because for many it is not), the design is a nod to the banners hanging overhead in TD Garden.

If the resemblance to those 17 banners commemorating as many titles for the Celtics doesn’t resonate, we understand. No design job is perfect.

But as understated as they may be, they aren’t too much — and we think that’s exactly what was in order for this season, after last on several levels.

Are these the new Boston Celtics City Edition jerseys?

If these are really the new Boston Celtics City Edition alternates, do you like the leaked design more or less than last year’s?

If the Boston Celtics 2020-21 City Edition alternate jersey designs have really been leaked, they aren’t exactly setting the world (or at least Twitter) on fire.

And that is an improvement over the reception of last year’s iteration, widely mocked for their heavy-handed attempts to pay homage to the city’s population of Irish ancestry using a font many compared to anything from the door sign of an Irish pub to the cover art of an Enya album.

Possessing a spartan white minimalist design that may well be in response to such a backlash, the rumored new jerseys have little to point except the font, and a passing resemblance to the banners hanging overhead.

We appreciate the nod at the Celtics Wire if these are the genuine article; as of yet there seem to be no rumbles from the team either confirming or denying their authenticity.

And while we can’t say they get us excited, they also don’t make our eyes roll in quite the same way they did last time around.

An all-white color scheme with green lettering eliminates the “what-color-is-this-dress” debate we had to listen to after big man Enes Kanter leaked the last City Edition designs.

While a little underwhelming, we don’t hate them — and that’s progress.

Sixers will debut Nike ‘City Edition’ jersey vs. Pacers on Saturday

Looking to improve to 14-6 at the expense of the Pacers, the Sixers will be debuting some new threads on Saturday night.

After defeating the New York Knicks on Friday night, the Sixers will be back in Philadelphia for the second night of a back-to-back when they play host to the Indiana Pacers.

Aside from Joel Embiid playing and T.J. McConnell returning, there was another piece of news coming from Wells Fargo Center prior to the game’s tip-off — Philadelphia will be debuting their “City Edition” Nike jerseys for the contest.

We first got a look at the threads a few weeks ago, and as the franchise attempts to improve to 14-6 at the expense of Indiana, they’ll do so wearing the jersey for the first time this season.

Entering the contest, the Sixers will be aiming for their seventh win in their past eight contests. Defensively, they enter play on November 30 as one of the top clubs in the Association, ranking fourth in both defensive efficiency (103.1 points per 100 possessions) and points allowed (103.6 per game).

With Josh Richardson doubtful for the contest, Brett Brown may once again be leaning on rookie Matisse Thybulle. He may also count on his reserves to play some meaningful minutes as the team will be competing for the second time in as many days.

No matter what happens, though, the Sixers will have a fresh look, even if they’re still a bit fatigued from their victory against the Knicks on Friday night.
