Trent Grisham got rightfully booed by Yankees fans for the laziest effort on a grounder to center

BOOOOOO!

Didn’t we JUST talk about this when it came to showing effort in baseball?

Trent Grisham — who hasn’t endeared himself to New York Yankees fans with his .165 batting average this year — was out in center field on July 4, when Cincinnati Reds infielder Jeimer Candelario hit a liner. Grisham took his sweet time getting to it, then bent over to field it with just his glove.

The ball hopped off his mitt, he bobbled it around, and Candelario made it into second with ease. The boo birds came out and rightfully so.

C’mon, man. You’ve got to show effort there! Here’s the play.

Reds beat Yankees in a classic national anthem standoff on July 4th

Nothing could match Graham Ashcraft’s Fourth of July patriotism.

On the Fourth of July at Yankee Stadium, nothing was going to stop the game before the game.

After the national anthem was played Thursday afternoon, Yankees pitchers Cody Poteet and Ian Hamilton kept their place in front of one dugout, while Cincinnati Reds pitchers Cody Spiers and Graham Ashcraft stood in front of the other.

A literal standoff ensued, like a patriotic game of chicken.

Spiers peeled off after a few moments, but Ashcraft and the two Yankees stood their ground as Cincinnatiā€™s outfielders jogged into place and as Jonathan India approached the mound.

And then, Yankees manager Aaron Boone told his guys to knock it off. Ashcraft won, and the Reds celebrated like they had hit a walk-off home run.

The Reds also went on to win the actual game, 8-4. And afterwards, folks online had some spicy takes about Boone and the Yankees, who have now lost three straight and are 2-8 in their last 10 games.

The Baltimore Orioles are 2.5 games ahead of New York in the AL East standings.

An umpire mocked Alexis Diaz for questioning a pitch called inside

And the ump was actually right!

Alexis Diaz got the save on Wednesday night, his 19th of the season, with the Cincinnati Reds beating the New York Yankees 3-2.

But the closer’s reaction to a pitch called inside got him mocked by the umpire, who didn’t toss him out for questioning balls and strikes.

Diaz threw a pitch that was clearly inside, but the hurler raised his arms to question the call. And it was home plate ump Jim Wolf who caught that, raised his arms like Diaz did and pointed emphatically to indicate that the pitch was definitely inside.

It’s good that this was a case where the ump got this one right! We’ve seen too many of the opposite, haven’t we?

Hunter Greene puked on the mound for a second straight start but can’t figure out why

He really is a Cincinnati Reds hurler.

Does Hunter Greene have a vomiting problem?

In his last start before Tuesday night, he threw up on the mound. Then, in his second straight start against the Pittsburgh Pirates, he did it again as you’ll see below. What’s interesting here is that he had no idea why.

You see, in that last start, the Cincinnati Reds hurler (no pun intended, I promise), he overhydrated. This time, he said he did the opposite, so it didn’t make sense. But he said he’d try to figure it out.

Here’s that moment, although aĀ WARNING: If you don’t like to watch someone vomit, don’t click:

Elly De La Cruz hit a homer so far and high that the broadcast camera lost the ability to track it

Elly De La Cruz!

Cincinnati Reds superstar Elly De La Cruz is one of the most electric players in the MLB, and this outrageous homer further proved it.

Against Pittsburgh Pirates ace Daulton Jefferies, De La Cruz smacked the ball so far out of the ballpark at Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park that the broadcast camera couldn’t even track the ball as it left the diamond.

The ball went so far that it hit the top of the steamboat at Great American Ball Park, something the broadcast team giddily pointed out as De La Cruz rounded the bases for his two-run homer.

De La Cruz is as good at the plate as he is in the outfield, and this homer did so well that the game camera was as flummoxed as the pitcher was.

Paul Skenes somehow recorded his first career pickoff against Elly De La Cruz

Paul Skenes is out of this world.

Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes threw his first career pickoff came against one of the best base runners in the MLB.

Skenes had the sharp eye and precise throw to get an out on Cincinnati Reds superstar Elly De La Cruz, who has established himself as one of the quickest runners in the entire league.

It is very hard to throw out a player like De La Cruz, much less get him while he’s still hovering around the base. However, Skenes has taken the MLB by storm and has proven himself capable of doing some pretty special things.

Apparently, recording his first pickoff against De La Cruz is part of that impressive rookie equation.

Elly De La Cruz had MLB fans in awe when he electrifyingly scored from second on an errant pick-off attempt

He really might be the fastest man alive.

At this point, Elly De La Cruz’s speed shouldn’t be a surprise. But the more we see that speed in action, the more it continues to amaze.

He seriously might be the fastest person on the planet.

During Sunday’s game between the Reds and Brewers, De La Cruz stole second with two outs in the third. Yet instead of focusing on the batter in a 1-2 count, Brewers pitcher Colin Rea inexplicably had his attention on De La Cruz at second. He made a pick-off attempt with De La Cruz just a couple steps off the bag, and that throw went into center field.

And just like that, it was off to the races for De La Cruz.

De La Cruz seemingly hit top speed after a couple steps and got the green light to make the turn home from third base. No other player in baseball is scoring from second on that error with two outs. De La Cruz’s speed is just different like that.

No wonder MLB fans were in awe of the electrifying play. His speed produced a run out of thin air.

Snoop Dogg reacting to a great Elly De La Cruz play from the broadcast booth of Reds-Twins was absolutely delightful

So much drama in the EDLC.

We don’t really need to understand why Snoop Dogg was in the broadcast booth for Saturday’s Cincinnati Reds and Minnesota Twins game. We’re just glad that it happened.

His appearance on the game broadcast was absolutely wonderful, particularly the way he reacted to Reds superstar Elly De La Cruz throwing out a Twins runner before he got to first base.

Snoop Dogg did not think that De La Cruz could make the play on Minnesota’s Brice Turang after the latter got a nice hit down the middle of the field.

However, De La Cruz has made a career so far out of making incredible highlights seem easy. Of course he threw Turang out with ease.

Snoop Dogg couldn’t believe it, which made his commentary all the more fantastic.

The world needs Snoop Dogg in the booth for more sports broadcasts of all types, as this surprise MLB guest appearance was just too good to miss.

We wouldn’t blame him for buying a De La Cruz jersey after this, either.

MLB fans were shocked after the Reds’ Blake Dunn took a 101 mph pitch to the head and casually walked to first

That helmet is the real MVP.

It takes less than a second, but there can’t be many experiences that are more terrifying for a baseball player than seeing a pitch beaming towards the head at triple-digit speeds. There’s no time to get out of the way, and the only hope is that the helmet stands up to the pitch.

Reds outfielder Blake Dunn went through all of that on Tuesday night. And thankfully, his helmet did indeed do its job.

Facing the Guardians’ Emmanuel Clase in the ninth inning, Dunn took a 101.4 mph fastball off the head. Though there was no avoiding the pitch, Dunn managed to turn enough to ensure that the helmet took the brunt of that pitch.

Dunn clearly wasn’t pleased to get hit up high like that as it could have been a horrific moment. But Dunn was fine and walked to first base calmly while giving Clase somewhat of a staredown. He remained in the game as the Reds lost, 5-3.

After the game, Dunn spoke about the pitch and mentioned that it actually cracked his helmet. He said via cincinnati.com:

“Yeah, just hit me square into the helmet and then glanced off,” Dunn said. “Cracked it a little bit. But, it did its job. I got hit in the head a couple of times last year, but none of them squared me up. One of them like went underneath the back of my helmet and cut the back of my head, but I haven’t had one where it like totally squared me up and was also hard enough to crack the helmet too. ā€¦ I know (Clase) throws 100 to 101. It’s pretty consistent. So I knew once it came up and in, I was like I better try to get out of the way of this. You really can’t because of how firm it is and how fast it gets on you. Luckily, like I said, at least I was able to turn my head so that it was able to hit the helmet and not my face.”

MLB fans, though, were mostly stunned that he was OK after that.

This was how Twitter/X reacted

Someone really should check on that baseball to see if it’s OK.

The photos of a fan who did a backflip and got Tased invading the Reds’ field are wild

This was wild.

Here’s a good way to warn you: running on to the field as a fan may end up badly for you, legally or otherwise.

What’s the context here? A Cincinnati Reds fan ran on to the field on Tuesday during their game against the Cleveland Guardians at Great American Ballpark, and as he was chased by a security guard, he stopped, did standing backflip and kept running.

But then … the guard brought out a Taser down went the fan as he was taken away.

You can see the videos of the moment below, but the photos from Getty Images’s Andy Lyons are stunning.
