Junior second baseman Christian Moore set Tennessee’s single-season home run record on Thursday.

Moore went 3-for-4 in Tennessee’s, 9-3, win against South Carolina at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. He hit two home runs and recorded two RBIs and three runs.

Moore has recorded 26 home runs in 2024, a single-season record in Tennessee’s program history. He was tied with Sonny Cortez entering Thursday’s contest. Cortez hit 24 home runs in 1998 at Tennessee.

The 6-foot-1, 216-pound second baseman also holds Tennessee’s career home run record (53).

Game No. 2 between No. 1 Tennessee (44-10, 20-8 SEC) and No. 23 South Carolina (33-19, 13-15 SEC) is slated for 6:30 p.m. EDT on Friday. Rankings reflect the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll.

No. 1 Tennessee (44-10, 20-8 SEC) opened a three-game series versus No. 23 South Carolina (33-19, 13-15 SEC). Rankings reflect the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll.

The Vols defeated South Carolina, 9-3, in game No. 1 on Friday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Christian Moore started at second base and went 3-for-4 against the Gamecocks. Moore hit two home runs and recorded two RBIs and three runs.

Moore is Tennessee’s program leader for home runs in a career with 53.

The Vols will look for a series win on Friday against South Carolina. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. EDT and can be watched on SEC Network+.

Christian Moore discusses extending on-base streak to 13 games after Tennessee’s win against Queens.

Christian Moore extended his on-base streak to 13 games on Tuesday in No. 1 Tennessee’s (40-9, 17-7 SEC), 6-3, win against Queens (12-37, 8-16 ASUN) at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Moore went 2-for-3 against the Royals. He totaled two walks, one RBI and one run.

“I spent a lot of time in this cage, where we are now, in the offseason,” Moore said after Tennessee’s win against Queens. “Obviously, the year I had last year was decent, in my opinion, but I always want to get better and try to improve. Just wanted to cut down on the strikeouts this year, so just try to work on that and hitting spin ball and stay in kind of my approach, also understanding what teams want to do to me as well.

“Last year, I think I was just up there like I’m going to hit what I want to get, but you’re not going to, that’s just not going to happen. You’re going to have to hit what they throw you, so you better be able to adjust.”

Vols hit six home runs in series opening win against Missouri

Tennessee baseball wins series opener against Missouri.

No. 3 Tennessee (35-7, 13-6 SEC) defeated Missouri (19-24, 6-13 SEC), 10-1, Thursday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Tennessee hit six home runs against Missouri, marking the fifth time the Vols have hit five home runs in a game this season.

Billy Amick went 3-for-5. He hit a solo home run and a three-run home run. He recorded four RBIs and two runs, while Christian Moore went 3-for-4. Moore hit a solo home run to lead off the first inning for Tennessee. He recorded two runs and one RBI.

Hunter Ensley went 1-fot-3 and hit a solo home runs for the Vols. Cal Stark also went 1-for-3. Stark hit a three-run home run, while Cannon Peebles hit a pinch-hit solo home run in the eighth inning, his first of the season.

AJ Causey (7-3) pitched six innings in relief for the Vols. He allowed one run, six hits and two walks, while recording six strikeouts.

Chris Stamos started and pitched 2.2 innings and allowed three hits. He recorded three strikeouts.

Matthew Dallas recorded the final out of the game, totaling two pitches.

Christian Moore named National Player of the Week

Tennessee’s Christian Moore named National Player of the Week after winning series at Kentucky.

Tennessee junior Christian Moore was named National Player of the Week by Perfect Game and D1Baseball on Monday.

He was also named SEC Player of the Week after the Vols’ series win at Kentucky.

Moore recorded at least one hit and one RBI in all three games against the Wildcats. He went 8-for-11, recording four home runs, eight RBIs and five runs.

Moore totaled four hits, tying a career high on Saturday and Sunday. He hit three home runs and recorded six RBIs on Sunday to help Tennessee win the series, Kentucky’s first conference series loss of the 2024 season.

Tennessee junior second baseman Christian Moore was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

Moore also earned SEC Player of the Week honors on April 9.

The 6-foot-1, 216-pound infielder went 9-for-15 in three games at Kentucky during Week 10. He hit four home runs, including three on Sunday, in Tennessee’s series win against the Wildcats.

Moore is now Tennessee’s leader for career home runs (46).

Christian Moore hits three home runs in Tennessee’s series finale win at Kentucky.

No. 3 Tennessee (33-7, 12-6 SEC) defeated No. 5 Kentucky (31-7, 15-3 SEC), 13-11, on Sunday. Tennessee clinched as series win against the Wildcats at Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington, Kentucky.

Zander Sechrist started for Tennessee and pitched three innings, recording three strikeouts. He totaled 46 pitches, including 30 strikes, against 15 batters.

Tennessee recorded 11 hits in Sunday’s series finale, including three home runs by Christian Moore. He hit a two-run home run in the third inning, a solo home run in the seventh inning and a three-run home run in the eighth inning. Moore is now Tennessee’s leader for career home runs (46).

Kavares Tears also hit a home run for the Vols in the seventh inning.

Blake Burke went 2-for-4 in the series finale and totaled one RBI, two runs and one stolen base. He extended his hit streak to 30 games, a Tennessee program record.

Saturday’s contest was the second of a three-game series between the Vols and Wildcats at Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington, Kentucky. Sunday’s series finale will take place at 1 p.m. EDT and can be watched on SEC Network+.

Tennessee opened Saturday’s matchup with back-to-back home runs by Christian Moore and Blake Burke. Moore served as the Vols’ leadoff hitter and his home run tied Burke for Tennessee’s career home run record (43).

Burke’s home run in the next at bat placed him again as the Vols’ career home run leader with 44.

Auburn baseball wins series opener against Tennessee.

Auburn (18-11, 2-8 SEC) defeated Tennessee (24-6, 5-5 SEC), 9-5, on Friday at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Alabama.

Christian Moore started at second base for the Vols and went 2-for-5. He recorded a two-run home run, one double, two runs and two RBIs.

Kavares Tears also hit a two-run home run for Tennessee. He went 2-for-3 and totaled two RBIs and one run.

Tennessee first baseman Blake Burke went 3-for-4 and extended his hit streak to 20 games. He recorded one double, one run and one RBI.

AJ Causey (5-2) started for the Vols and took the loss and pitched 1.1 innings. He allowed eight hits and eight earned runs, while recording four strikeouts.

No. 7 Tennessee (20-3, 2-2 SEC) defeated Ole Miss (16-7, 2-2), 15-3 in seven innings, on Friday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Christian Moore went 2-for-4 and recorded two home runs, two RBIs and two runs, while Kavares Tears went 3-for-3 for the Vols. Tears recorded one home run, one double, two RBIs and four runs.

Designated hitter Robin Villeneuve went 3-for-4 and recorded one home run, four RBIs and three runs, while Dean Curley went 1-for-4 and totaled one home run, three RBIs and one run in Tennessee’s win.

AJ Causey (5-0) pitched 5.2 innings. He allowed three runs (two earned runs), five hits and two walks, while recording six strikeouts.
