Philadelphia Eagles vs. Carolina Panthers: RB Christian McCaffrey now doubtful for Week 5 matchup

With the Eagles in the midst of a three-game losing streak and uncertainty along the offensive line, there’s some positive news from a scheme and gameplay standpoint.

Christian McCaffrey was hopeful to play on Sunday but now has been downgraded to doubtful for Sunday’s matchup in Charlotte against the Eagles’ vulnerable defense.

Shaq Thompson and Cameron Erving were ruled out, while Yetur Gross-Matos has been ruled questionable as well.

For Philadelphia, Jordan Mailata will return to the lineup, while Lane Johnson has been ruled out for the second straight game.

Eagles vs. Panthers: RB Christian McCaffrey is optimistic he’ll play against Philadelphia

Eagles vs. Panthers: RB Christian McCaffrey is optimistic he’ll play against Philadelphia

The Eagles defense was already searching for an identity and Sunday could provide the stiffest test of the 2021 NFL season.

Christian McCaffrey missed the Panthers shootout with Dallas last week, but after two limited practices in preparation for Philadelphia, Carolina’s star running back is optimistic that he’ll be available to play.

McCaffrey suffered the hamstring injury suffered the previous week in a Thursday night win at Houston and the initial prognosis was that he could miss several weeks.

With the 3-1 Panthers set to face the NFL’s 31st-ranked run defense, McCaffrey’s obviously feeling good about a potential return performance.

One of the NFL’s top running backs, McCaffrey could be itching to return so quickly because of the 13 games he missed in 2020 due to various ailments.

Panthers likely to be without Christian McCaffrey for Week 5 matchup vs. Eagles

Carolina Panthers likely to be without their starting RB for Week 5 matchup vs. Eagles

The Carolina Panthers are 3-0 on the season after a 24-9 win over the Houston Texans on Thursday night football.

Lost in the fast start is the news that star running back Christian McCaffrey is expected to miss multiple weeks with a hamstring injury. Carolina hosts Philadelphia in Week 5 and if McCaffrey can’t play, the Eagles would then face rookie running back Chuba Hubbard.

McCaffrey, who in 2019 became the third player in NFL history to have 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in the same season, missed 13 games last season due to multiple injuries, including a high ankle sprain suffered in Week 2.
