Former Michigan basketball signee Christian Anderson Jr. commits to new school

Best of luck to him. #GoBlue

It was a long commitment that never quite paid off, and now Michigan basketball will have to see a former signee wear a different color uniform.

2024 Atlanta (Ga.) Mount Of Wilson four-star point guard Christian Anderson Jr. committed to the Wolverines all the way back in Oct. 2021 and even signed with the maize and blue. However, after the post-season ouster of head coach Juwan Howard, the coach that Anderson committed to, and the eventual hiring of Dusty May, Anderson asked for a release from his national letter of intent so he could commit elsewhere.

On Monday, he finally made his decision known, pledging to Texas Tech as his new school of choice.

Dusty May already has been active when it’s come to filling replacements for the departed on the roster. Though the Wolverines have one open roster spot at the moment, May brought in a bevy of guards via the transfer portal, including Tre Donaldson, Roddy Gayle Jr., and Rubin Jones.

Longtime Michigan basketball commit, signee decommits

Ugh, not great. #GoBlue

One thing seemed a sure thing for Michigan basketball, regardless of the changes to the coaching staff. That was 2024 class commit Christian Anderson Jr., who has been pledged to the maize and blue for three years and was a vocal Wolverine all the way through — seemingly unwavering.

Yet, with Dusty May coming in to replace Juwan Howard, a little more than wavering has taken place for the longtime commit.

It was revealed late Friday night that Anderson, a four-star point guard, was opting out of his commitment to Michigan basketball. The prolific shooter had signed with the program at the earliest opportunity.

There’s no indication whether he remains open to returning to the fold once May and company get settled.

With his departure, Michigan has one signee, Durral Brooks, who has also expressed skepticism whether he’ll remain in the class. Khani Rooths, who hadn’t signed, decommitted, but said he will still consider the Wolverines.

Army may be without its best offensive player tonight at Wisconsin

Army may be without its best offensive player tonight at Wisconsin

The Army triple-option quarterback is often the team’s leader in nearly every category.

This season, that No. 1 quarterback has been Christian Anderson. The senior has thrown for 187 yards on 15 attempts and rushed for 431 yards and 5 touchdowns on 58 attempts.

Anderson was injured during the team’s 23-10 victory over Miami (Ohio) on September 25. He did not break anything, though reports indicated his rehab was anything but painless.

The Army signal-caller went on to miss the team’s 28-16 loss to Ball State on October 2. They’ve had a bye week since then, but it’s been an injury worth monitoring all week entering tonight’s game.

Army head coach Jeff Monken spoke on Anderson’s practice reps late this week, noting he’s been able to do work but hasn’t taken most of the reps with the 1s.

“Really, the way we’ve practiced forever with this offense is the No. 2 quarterback gets at least as many reps as the No. 1 quarterback,” Monken said. “It’s always been that way…This year, it just happens to work out where we feel like we’ve got a pretty good number of guys that can play. So we’ve sprinkled in all of those guys on the depth chart, the guys you’ve seen already play this year as well as Cade Ballard and Maurice Bellan…So this week with Christian Anderson getting nursed back to health, we’ve actually gotten him into practice and he’s been able to take reps with us. Tyhier Tyler has really gotten most of them with the 1s…I think we’re kind of where we were a couple of weeks ago just in terms of having guys ready.”

We’ll monitor Anderson’s injury throughout the day. Wisconsin will catch a significant break if Tyhier Tyler (40 carries, 109 yards, 5 passes, 26 yards, 1 reception) and others suit up at quarterback.

Well, Juwan Howard has his point guard of the future. And that’s quite literally true now.

Michigan basketball is working on the 2022 class at the moment, which currently has three commitments in the recently-pledged Gregg Glenn, Tarris Reed, and Dug McDaniel — the latter being the point guard in the most recent class. Those players, along with any future pledges, won’t even arrive on campus until next summer. As of yet, there is not even a commit in the 2023 class, which is still even further away yet.

But that didn’t stop the Wolverines from offering and accepting someone in the 2024 class.

On Wednesday afternoon, 2024 Atlanta (Ga.) Lovett School point guard Christian Anderson, on the heels of an offer, ended his process, committing to Howard and Michigan basketball.

There are not yet any ratings on Anderson as the recruiting services are not yet to high school sophomores. As of now, according to 247Sports, Anderson is 5-foot-8, 125-pounds.

And he certainly can shoot the ball. Take a look:
