Why a ‘sweet woman’ bought Max Homa’s Chick-fil-A on the way to the RBC Heritage

“I just pinch myself at times with the kindness people have given me just because I play some golf.”

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — One day after finishing tied for third at the Masters and cashing a check for more than $1 million, Max Homa had a fan pay for his Chick-fil-A at the drive-thru.

“It was kind,” he said during his pre-tournament press conference at the 2024 RBC Heritage. “I just pinch myself at times with the kindness people have given me just because I play some golf. I feel very fortunate for that.”

Homa drove from Augusta, Georgia, where he shot a final-round 73 to record his best finish at a major. On Sunday night, he celebrated his wife Lacey’s upcoming birthday early and on Monday he made the three-hour drive to Harbour Town Golf Links for this week’s 69-man, no-cut signature event, and stopped along the way for a bite to eat.

“I absolutely demolished Chick-fil-A on my way down,” Homa said. “I was in the drive-thru by myself and I went to order and the person taking the order told me that the woman in the row next to me had paid for whatever I was going to get. She said that her son is 3 or 4 and I’m his favorite golfer, so it was pretty cool. I don’t know, those kinds of things I still pinch myself.”

Homa added that it was the typical busy two-line drive-thru set-up that runs like clockwork. Somehow, she managed to recognize Homa, who climbed into the top 10 in the world (No. 9) with his strong performance at the Masters. That three-way tie for third earned him $1.04 million for his 72-hole total of 4-under 284, matching Collin Morikawa and Tommy Fleetwood.

“She paid for it, I rolled my window down, we chatted for a minute or so, and then I ate it,” Homa said.

Homa deserved a treat after a memorable week. His record in the majors before the Masters was abysmal. It was an important week for the former Cal product to prove to the golf world – and himself – he can perform at golf’s biggest events, too.

“It was fun to wake up for a couple days and think, there’s a pretty decent chance I might be wearing a green jacket on Sunday and to still excel and feel good about my golf,” he said. “It reinforces that my golf game is good enough. I think most anybody who plays a major, it is. But until you get to feel that, you don’t know.”

He added: “Maybe a little bit of the monkey is off the back. I know I can, and the work I’m doing is right. It just comes down to the mental for me. I didn’t change anything about my golf game last week. I just really changed my head and got out of my own way and just played some golf.”

Homa is scheduled to tee on Thursday at 10:50 a.m. ET, in a pairing with Fleetwood.

Alabama Football: Sporting News predicts Crimson Tide’s postseason opponents

Sporting News predicts Alabama to make another National Title appearance in 2022

The Alabama Crimson Tide has won three out of the eight college football playoff national championships to date, with another two champions coming from fellow SEC schools, LSU and Georgia.

With one of the best quarterbacks and rosters in program history, anything short of a playoff appearance will be a disappointing season in the eyes of the Crimson Tide faithful. Fortunately for them, it’s hard for anyone to imagine the Tide not finishing the season among the top four.

Bill Bender of Sporting News predicted all of the bowl and playoff games for the upcoming 2022 season, including a third consecutive playoff birth for Alabama.

Bender projects that the Crimson Tide will meet up with a familiar foe, the Clemson Tigers, in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl. After beating Clemson, Bender thinks that they will face the Ohio State Buckeyes for all of the marbles in the 2022 national title game.

Ohio State would love a chance to get some revenge on Alabama after the smacking the Tide put on them in the 2020 national title game when Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith posted the absurd stat line of 12 catches for 215 yards and three touchdowns all in the first half.

Do you think Nick Saban can capture number eight this season?

Giannis Antetokounmpo got offered free food for life from Culver’s in Milwaukee after winning a championship

Giannis got free food somewhere, at least.

Giannis Antetokounmpo pulled up to Chick-fil-A thinking he was going to get free food for life from the restaurant after winning an NBA championship.

Of course, he didn’t. But he still ordered that 50-piece Chicken Mini meal on Instagram live anyway. And, obviously, that was a ton of free advertising for Chick-fil-A because of the new NBA champion. One would think they’d be willing to throw him some free food. Nope, apparently not.

It’s all good, though. Somebody has him covered on the free food.

Culver’s — a fast-food restaurant founded in Milwaukee — offered Antetokounmpo free food for life in place of Chick-fil-A.

It’s not Chick-fil-A, but it should certainly work. Free cheese curds for life? Say less, fam. Giannis better take advantage of this.

Giannis Antetokounmpo just ordered a 50-piece chicken mini meal from Chick-Fil-A and it was so perfect

Giannis Antetokounmpo is going to have a fun summer.

Giannis Antetokounmpo may have really just pulled off the perfect Instagram Live session.

The Finals MVP is deep in celebration mode after winning his first title, and rightfully so. It was a tough title to win. And he silenced all of his critics with a 50-point closeout game doing all the things they said he never could.

So, yes, it’s time to celebrate. And Antetokounmpo let us in on that celebration in his Instagram live session.

This man pulled up to Chick-Fil-A and ordered the Giannis special. He ordered a 50-piece chicken mini meal — not 49 and not 51 — along with a large half sprite and half lemonade with no ice.

Legend. This was so amazing. He had both the Finals and the Finals MVP trophies in the backseat with him. He wasn’t letting them go anywhere.

He got a Bucks in 6 chant started.

He also tried to get free Chick-fil-A for life, but it didn’t really work out. Some cameras pulled up on him after.

And then some Bucks fans pulled up on him.

This is going to be one heck of a celebratory summer for Giannis and the Bucks.

Alex Ovechkin better watch out. Somebody might be coming for that “best celebration ever” title soon.
