7 takeaways from the Bears’ dominating win over the Patriots

Sometimes it’s just fun to enjoy a big win. That and more in our takeaways from the Bears’ decisive victory over the Patriots.

The Chicago Bears did what few teams with young quarterbacks do in Foxborough, MA and that’s defeat the New England Patriots under Bill Belichick. The Bears were massive underdogs on Monday Night Football, but wound up blowing the doors off the Patriots in all phases of the game with a convincing 33-14 victory.

With a mini bye week following their disappointing loss to the Washington Commanders, the Bears used the extra rest to make improvements to their team, most notably on offense. Quarterback Justin Fields led an unstoppable rushing attack and made sure the Patriots barely touched the ball. When they did, however, the Bears defense made them pay with four turnovers on the day.

Nothing was stopping the Bears during this game and it resulted in an improbable, yet satisfying win with a chance to build on this success. Here are our takeaways from this primetime victory.

Bears vs. Patriots: Everything we know about Chicago’s primetime win

The Bears defeated the Patriots 33-14 behind an unstoppable ground game led by Justin Fields. Here’s everything we know about Monday’s win.

The Chicago Bears played their final primetime game of the season on Monday night and made sure it was a memorable one for all who were watching. The Bears took down the New England Patriots 33-14 and improved to 3-4 on the season while also snapping their three-game losing streak.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick came into Monday’s game tied with former Bears coach George Halas for second-most wins in league history. Fortunately, the Bears honored Halas’ legacy by holding Belichick’s Patriots off thanks to a smart offensive gameplan and key defensive turnovers.

Here’s everything we know following the impressive win.

Twitter reacts to Bears safety Jaquan Brisker’s kick and pick

Bears safety Jaquan Brisker took a shot below the belt, but got revenge with his first career interception against the Patriots.

Chicago Bears safety Jaquan Brisker had an eventful series in the second quarter to say the least. During the Patriots third drive of the game, Brisker had a scare after getting hit a cleat right below the belt on a scramble by Mac Jones, needing to leave the game for a play.

Fortunately for him, Brisker rebounded in a big way and got his revenge. After returning to the field, Brisker made an incredible one-handed interception, the first one of his career, to give the Bears the ball back. It even resulted in Jones’ benching as rookie Bailey Zappe took over on the following possession.

It was a big moment for Brisker but perhaps an even bigger moment for Bears fans on Twitter. It seems everyone was going through a wide range of emotions in the few minutes between his “injury” and the interception.

Mac Jones is expected to start for the Patriots against the Bears

The Patriots are expected to start Mac Jones at quarterback on Monday against the Bears.

It’s the return of the Mac for the New England Patriots this week. According to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, quarterback Mac Jones is expected to start for the Patriots on Monday against the Bears after missing the last three weeks with an ankle injury.

While Jones was on the mend, rookie Bailey Zappe stole the show. The fourth-round pick out of Western Kentucky went 2-0 in his starts and nearly came back against the Green Bay Packers when he took over for backup Brian Hoyer, who initially got the nod in Jones’ absence.

Despite Zappe’s impressive performance where he threw four touchdowns to just one interception for a quarterback rating of 111.4, head coach Bill Belichick turned back to his second-year starter. Jones has struggled this year, throwing just two touchdowns and five interceptions with a quarterback rating of 76.2. That had some believing a quarterback controversy was brewing, but Jones gets his job back against fellow second-year signal caller Justin Fields.

The Bears and Fields have had success against second-year quarterbacks this season. Their two wins came against Trey Lance’s San Francicso 49ers in Week 1 and Davis Mills’ Houston Texans in Week 3. Both players were selected in the 2021 NFL Draft with Fields. Now, he gets his chance to go 3-0 against Jones.

The Bears and Patriots square off on Monday Night Football, beginning at 7:15 pm CT on ESPN.
