While the Houston Texans are supporting receiver John Metchie off the field with his battle with leukemia, the business of pro football continues.

According to Adam Schefter from ESPN, the Texans visited with former Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts receivers Chester Rogers.

Rogers was with the Titans in 2020 after spending training camp with the Miami Dolphins. The Titans kept Rogers on their practice squad, and he did not make his first appearance with the team until Week 1 the following year.

With the Titans, Rogers caught 30 passes for 301 yards and a touchdown.

When Rogers was with the Colts, he produced 111 catches for 1,221 yards and five touchdowns through 53 games, 22 of which he started.

The Texans could use a slot receiver, and Rogers fits the bill at 6-0, 184 pounds.

Tennessee Titans’ Week 15 Player of the Game: The defense

The Titans’ defense was great once again in Week 15, even with the offense handing the Steelers great field position on multiple occasions.

The Tennessee Titans could not have asked for anything more than what their defense gave them in the 19-13 Week 15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tennessee’s unit put the clamps on the Steelers all game long, allowing just 168 yards of total offense, including 35 on the ground. The pass-rush also sacked Ben Roethlisberger three times, one of which came from Bud Dupree.

Most weeks that effort, combined with 19 points allowed, would be more than enough to win a game, but that was not the case on Sunday.

That’s because the Titans’ offense was inept and handed the Steelers the ball in Tennessee territory three times, leading to three field goals. Pittsburgh also capitalized on Tennessee’s fourth turnover with another three points.

Without those turnovers, the offense’s awful showing would have been enough to win thanks to how great the defense played.

The Steelers’ lone touchdown drive was aided by a few penalties, which was the only blemish for this unit overall. One could point to the zero turnovers as another issue, but the defense was so good on Sunday that it didn’t really need them.

It’s too bad the Titans can’t get their offense going or else this team would be a major force. Hopefully things can get back on track with the returns of A.J. Brown and Derrick Henry. Brown is eligible to return off IR in Week 16.

Honorable mentions: RB D’Onta Foreman and WR Chester Rogers

Foreman was sensational for the Titans on Sunday. He accounted for 109 of the Titans’ 201 rushing yards. Foreman, who ran hard and showed great effort despite battling an injury, single-handedly carried the Titans down the field on their final drive before it was stalled.

We also want to give a shutout to Rogers, who notched a 55-yard punt return in the first quarter that set the Titans up for their lone touchdown of the game. Tennessee probably doesn’t find pay dirt on Sunday without it. Rogers also had multiple big catches to move the chains throughout and finished with four catches for 30 yards.

Titans’ winners and losers from Week 11 loss to Texans

Chester Rogers and Ryan Tannehill were the biggest “losers” from the Titans’ Week 11 loss to the Texans.

The Tennessee Titans’ winning streak came to a screeching halt in Week 11, and the loss came against the lowly Houston Texans of all teams.

So, how the hell did this happen?

Well, two of our keys to the game for the Titans were not turning the ball over on offense, and keeping Tyrod Taylor in the pocket. Tennessee failed miserably at both, but the former key was a much bigger issue.

The Titans turned the ball over five times, and four of those came from Ryan Tannehill, who has been sloppy all year and now has 12 picks, five more than he had all of 2020.

Making matters worse, three of the Titans’ five total turnovers (one came from Chester Rogers on a muffed punt return) handed the Texans red zone trips, all of which led to points.

As you’d expect, Tannehill and Rogers were our biggest “losers” from Week 11, but there were a few “winners” worth mentioning despite the loss.

Titans’ Taylor Lewan, Chester Rogers, Monty Rice ruled out for Week 7

The Titans will be without their left tackle and kick returner in Week 7.

The Tennessee Titans have ruled out a trio of players before releasing their final injury report of the week ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The biggest name among the three is left tackle Taylor Lewan, who suffered a concussion in what was a scary moment during the Week 6 victory over the Buffalo Bills.

Lewan has since come out and said he’s feeling “alright” following the game, but clearly he’s going to need at least another week to get right.

Wide receiver Chester Rogers has also been ruled out. His absence sets the Titans back in two spots, wide receiver and returner. Tennessee will now be without both their starting punt and kick returners, with Cameron Batson having torn his ACL, ending his season.

The Titans deployed Marcus Johnson on kickoffs in Rogers’ place, and the team worked out three players with returning experience in wide receivers Pharoh Cooper and Brandon Powell, and running back Dontrell Hilliard.

It’s also possible the Titans could get back their original starting kick returner, running back Darrynton Evans, who has been designated to return from IR for a few weeks now.

Last but not least, linebacker Monty Rice will miss his second straight game. Rice has played predominantly on special teams this season, but did see a season-high 12 snaps defensive snaps against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine a viable fantasy option if A.J. Brown, Julio Jones sit

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine could have a big Week 4 if Julio Jones and A.J. Brown are out.

The Tennessee Titans could be without their two best receivers in Week 4 against the New York Jets, as the statuses of A.J. Brown and Julio Jones are up in the air.

Brown is reportedly dealing with a strained hamstring that has him week-to-week, while Jones is reportedly dealing with an unspecified leg injury that leaves his status for Sunday in doubt.

If one or both of these stud wideouts can’t play — more likely than not the Titans will err on the side of caution in a winnable matchup against the Jets — 2020 undrafted free agent wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine is the best bet of the remaining Tennessee wideouts to insert into your lineup.

With Brown leaving after just eight snaps and Jones’ day being cut short after 34 in Week 3, Westbrook-Ikhine paced all Titans receivers in snaps (53), receptions (four) and receiving yards (53), and scored a touchdown.

The only blemish was that Westbrook-Ikhine lost a fumble at the five-yard line. Another concern is that he has struggled with drops in the past.

Regardless, he’s the best option of the bunch based on what we saw last week and should be the play if you’re looking for another Titans wideout to replace Jones or Brown, or are in need of a flex. He’s also someone to target in daily fantasy thanks to his cheap price tag.

Other receivers such as Chester Rogers and Josh Reynolds should also factor in, and there’s an outside chance wideout Marcus Johnson plays, as he’s eligible to come off IR this week, but chances are he’ll be eased back in.

If we had to rank the four, it would go like this:

  1. Westbrook-Ikhine
  2. Rogers
  3. Reynolds
  4. Johnson

Another situation to keep an eye on with the Titans comes at tight end, where Anthony Firkser, who is arguably the team’s best pass-catcher outside of Jones and Brown, could make his return after sitting out the last two weeks.

If Firkser returns to practice and suits up, we’d put him ahead of Rogers in the pass-catcher pecking order, partly thanks to his already strong connection with quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Firkser has TE1 potential if he plays.

Mike Vrabel lists Titans’ 3 keys to victory vs. Jets in Week 4

On “The Mike Vrabel Show,” the Titans head coach listed his three keys to victory versus the Jets.

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel isn’t one to mince words, and despite topping the Indianapolis Colts 25-16 last Sunday, he was visibly frustrated with his team’s performance in the postgame press conference.

With a 2-1 record, and with the team sitting atop the AFC South division, the Titans turn to their Week 4 matchup with the winless New York Jets, which marks the first of back-to-back road games, both of which Tennessee should be favored to win.

But the Titans still have to go out and execute their plays against the Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars if they want to head back home with a 4-1 record for a “Monday Night Football” primetime game with the Buffalo Bills in Week 6.

There’s been a mix of good and bad through the first three weeks, and Vrabel identified three areas that the team will need to emphasize to secure a win against the Jets on Sunday.

WATCH: Chester Rogers does ‘T-Y’ touchdown celebration vs. Colts

Watch Titans WR Chester Rogers do T.Y. Hilton’s “T-Y” celebration after a touchdown against the Colts.

Former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Chester Rogers earned himself a role on the Tennessee Titans offense and got a little bit of revenge on his former team in Week 3.

On the second drive of the game, Rogers beat Colts cornerback Kenny Moore out of the slot on a slant route for a touchdown to put the Titans up 7-0 in the first quarter.

Who really knows the intent behind it, but we’re going to assume Rogers was paying homage Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton by doing his “T-Y” touchdown celebration after scoring on Sunday.

Rogers got his NFL career started in 2016 with the Colts as an undrafted free agent out of Grambling State. In four seasons with the Colts (2016-2019), Rogers appeared in 53 games recording 117 receptions for 1221 yards and five touchdowns.

Biggest takeaways from Titans’ first regular season depth chart

The biggest surprise on the Titans’ latest depth chart comes at the WR position.

The Tennessee Titans will begin their 2021 campaign on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals at Nissan Stadium in Nashville — but days beforehand, Tennessee has released its first regular season depth chart.

This most recent version of the depth chart didn’t give us anymore clarity on one particular undecided position battle, but there were some other interesting things of note on it on both sides of the ball.

Let’s check it out (depth chart courtesy of Jim Wyatt of Titans Online):

What Mike Vrabel, Titans said after Preseason Week 1 victory

A look at what the Titans are saying after their Preseason Week 1 win over the Falcons.

The Tennessee Titans notched an impressive Preseason Week 1 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night, 23-3, with the team’s defense stealing the show.

It was a great night for the defense overall, which didn’t allow the Falcons to cross the 50-yard line in the first half. Outside linebacker Rashad Weaver stood out above the rest, earning our Player of the Game honors.

On offense, things weren’t as great. The Titans saw solid performances from their quarterbacks, Logan Woodside and Matt Barkley, and a few receivers shined, but the pass protection from the team’s projected reserves was bad.

Tennessee’s kickers had a good night, which will ease fears for now. Tucker McCann nailed all three of his attempts, but one of them (47 yards) was called back following a late hit on him that knocked him out of the game early.

The ones that counted for McCann were from 26 and 42 yards. Sam Ficken was also perfect on the evening, making both of his extra point attempts and his lone field goal try from 44 yards.

After the events of Friday night, the Titans had a lot to talk about. Here’s what head coach Mike Vrabel and select players said about the contest.

Watch: Titans’ Chester Rogers explodes for 57-yard punt return

Rogers continues to make the case he belongs on the Titans’ 53-man roster.

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Chester Rogers has been among the biggest standouts at his position in training camp, and he continued to impress on Friday night in the preseason opener versus the Atlanta Falcons.

Rogers first showed up on the stat sheet with a 17-yard catch on a pass from backup quarterback, Logan Woodside, which gave the Titans a first down.

But the more impressive play came during a punt return later in the first quarter.

Rogers fielded the ball at the Titans’ 30-yard line, found a hole, and then exploded through it for a 57-yard gain that set the Titans up for their first points of the game via a Tucker McCann 26-yard field goal.
