AAC Tournament: Temple vs. Charlotte odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Temple vs. Charlotte odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Temple Owls (14-19) and Charlotte 49ers (19-11) meet in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament Friday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (ESPNU/ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Temple vs. Charlotte odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

No. 11 seed Temple racked up a 64-61 win over No. 14 UTSA in the 1st round Wednesday, and surprised No. 6 SMU in a 75-60 upset to get to the quarters. It’s the 1st time Temple has won 2 games in a single AAC Tournament since joining the conference.

No. 3 seed Charlotte searches for its 20th win in its 1st appearance in Fort Worth, and 1st-ever AAC Tournament game. The 49ers struggled down the stretch in late February into early March, losing 3 in a row, but they closed with back-to-back wins against Rice and at East Carolina to grab a little momentum heading in.

These teams met once in the regular season, with Charlotte narrowly escaping Philadelphia with a 73-70 win as Temple grabbed the cover as a 6-point underdog with the Over (133.5) coming in.

Temple vs. Charlotte picks and predictions

Prediction

Charlotte 73, Temple 69

Moneyline

Backing Charlotte (-300) will cost you 3 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk on a singular bet, especially against a Temple (+240) side which has won 2 games in Fort Worth already and has a little bit of confidence heading into play.

PASS.

Against the spread

TEMPLE +6.5 (-105) has a little momentum, winning a pair of games in Fort Worth already. It has gotten used to Dickies Arena and should have a little confidence, while Charlotte -6.5 (-115) takes a little bit to feel things out in its 1st appearance of the tourney.

In addition, the 49ers struggled down the stretch, frittering away a chance at a higher seed. Charlotte was playing South Florida for 1st place at one point Feb. 6 in Tampa. It lost then, and the 49ers are just 5-4 straight up and 2-7 ATS since, including a win and non-cover against the Owls.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 132.5 (-110) might be the best betting option on the board.

The Over cashed in 2 of the final 3 games for Charlotte, and the 49ers defense has allowed 69 or more points in 9 of the past 12 outings, including at Temple Feb. 11.

The Owls have hit the Under in each of their 2 games in the AAC tourney so far, averaging 69.5 PPG on offense while allowing just 60.5 PPG, so be careful and don’t get carried away. However, the Over is 7-5 across the past 12 games for Temple, too.

Rice at Charlotte odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Rice at Charlotte odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Rice Owls (11-18, 5-11 American) and Charlotte 49ers (17-11, 11-5) meet Wednesday at the Dale F. Halton Arena in Charlotte. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Rice vs. Charlotte odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Owls have had a hard time in the past week, losing by at least 21 points at home against Temple and on the road at Wichita State. Prior to that, Rice beat UAB on the road and East Carolina at home by at least 18 points. So which Rice team will show up in Charlotte?

These teams met in Houston back on Jan. 16, with Rice covering as a 2.5-point underdogs at most shops in the 81-79 OT loss as the Over (137) easily connected.

The 49ers were in contention for the AAC title at one point, but Charlotte had a rough February, and it continued into the 1st game of March. Charlotte has dropped the past 3 games at Memphis, at Tulsa and home to South Florida, while going just 1-6 against the spread (ATS) in the past 7 outings.

Rice at Charlotte picks and predictions

Prediction

Charlotte 67, Rice 64

Moneyline

Charlotte (-300) will cost you 3 times your potential return, and that’s way too risky for a team entering on a 3-game losing streak. While losses on the road to Memphis, and at home to South Florida, can certainly be excused, the loss to Tulsa is a head scratcher. If it can lose to a subpar Tulsa team, Charlotte can lose to anybody.

PASS.

Against the spread

RICE +7.5 (-115) suffered a narrow loss in overtime at home against Charlotte -7.5 (-105) in the 1st meeting, and it’s likely to suffer a similar fate in the Queen City.

The Owls have won just twice in the past 7 outings, and they have been one of the Jekyll and Hyde teams of the AAC in the past few weeks. Some games, Rice looks like a world beater, including a 23-point win at UAB as an 11-point underdog, and other times it looks like a last-place team, like the 22-point loss at home to a bad Temple team as a 5-point favorite. Still, when they faced the 49ers earlier, the Owls brought their ‘A’ game, and Rice should be able to keep within 3 buckets in this game.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

UNDER 134.5 (-115) is worth a look, as both of these teams have been going low lately.

Charlotte has cashed the Under in 3 of the past 4 outings, scoring 67 or fewer points in 3 of the contests. The 49ers have split the Over-Under 3-3 in the past 6 at Halton Arena.

Rice has averaged just 54.5 PPG across the past 2 games, and it has scored 69 or fewer points in 4 of the past 7 outings.

South Florida at Charlotte odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s South Florida at Charlotte odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The South Florida Bulls (21-5, 14-1 American) and Charlotte 49ers (17-10, 11-4) meet Saturday at Dale F. Halton Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the South Florida vs. Charlotte odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Bulls have clinched at least a share of the regular-season championship in the AAC, but it can secure the top overall seed with at least one victory in the next 3 games. It holds a 3-game lead over FAU and Charlotte for the top spot.

South Florida topped SMU 79-68 as a 2.5-point underdog Sunday in the most recent outing, and USF has won 13 straight games, while going 10-1-2 against the spread (ATS) during the impressive stretch. The Under cashed against SMU, and is now 4-1 in the past 5 games, and 6-2 across the previous 8 outings.

USF topped Charlotte 72-69 in Tampa as a 2-point favorite as the Over (132.5) connected on Feb. 6.

The 49ers have dropped 2 straight at Memphis and at Tulsa, and Charlotte is now just 1-5 ATS in the past 6 games. The Under has cashed in each of the previous 3 outings.

South Florida is No. 25 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

South Florida at Charlotte picks and predictions

Prediction

South Florida 69, Charlotte 63

Moneyline

SOUTH FLORIDA (+142) is a strong play as road underdogs in Charlotte (-172), as the Bulls look to secure the AAC regular-season title.

The Bulls are playing tremendous basketball, winning 13 in a row, including a victory against the 49ers in the first meeting. Charlotte enters with a pair of crippling losses, including a setback against a .500 Tulsa team last time out. The 49ers cannot be trusted.

Against the spread

SOUTH FLORIDA +3.5 (-106) are a good play if you’re a little on the conservative side, and strongly believe in Charlotte -3.5 (-114) on its home court.

The 49ers put up a good fight in Tampa in the first meeting, as both teams jousted for first place in that battle. USF hasn’t let up since that showdown, while Charlotte is just .500 at 3-3 SU since that setback. The 49ers are also an ugly 1-5 ATS in the past 6 outings.

Over/Under

UNDER 134.5 (-110) is worth a look in this AAC clash in the Queen City.

The 49ers have hit the Under in 3 straight outings. Charlotte’s defense has been solid lately, allowing 72 or fewer points in 9 of the past 10 contests. The offense has been running on fumes, averaging just 63.7 PPG in the past 3 outings, all Under results.

The Bulls have cashed the Under in 4 of the past 5 outings, and 6 of the previous 8 contests. USF has scored 72 or fewer points in 6 of the past 8, while conceding 73 or fewer points in 12 of the 13 games during the current win streak.

FAU at Charlotte odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s FAU at Charlotte odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The FAU Owls (3-4, 2-1 AAC) and Charlotte 49ers (2-5, 1-2) meet Friday at Jerry Richardson Stadium in Charlotte. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the FAU vs. Charlotte odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Owls appeared to be turning a corner with back-to-back wins over Tulsa and South Florida, including a 56-14 win in Tampa against the rival Bulls on Oct. 14 as 2.5-point underdogs. However, FAU returned home last Saturday and got worked over by UTSA 36-10, coming nowhere near covering as 2.5-point ‘dogs as the Under (59) hit. The 10 points matched a season low in offensive production.

The 49ers picked up the 1st AAC win in school history with a 10-7 win at East Carolina in a battle of teams with a winless conference record. Despite the win, Charlotte has still cobbled together just 33 total points of offense across the past 4 outings, and it’s no surprise the Under is 4-0 in that span.

FAU at Charlotte picks and predictions

Prediction

FAU 30, Charlotte 12

Moneyline

FAU (-165) suffered a big blow early in the season when QB Casey Thompson went down with a torn ACL at Clemson. QB Daniel Richardson, the former Central Michigan recruit, has taken over and done a decent job at times. He has the accomplished WR LaJohntay Wester, who leads the AAC with 66 receptions, and a solid run game featuring RB Larry McCammon III.

Charlotte (+140) just doesn’t have the offensive horses to compete with an FAU team littered with skill position talent.

Against the spread

FAU -3.5 (-115) isn’t a bad play, although be careful with the Owls. They’ve been a bit Jekyll and Hyde this season. No one expected them to throttle USF by 42 points, but they no one expected a 26-point loss at home to UTSA, either. You never know what you’re going to get with Tom Herman’s team this season. On paper, they’re easily more skilled at nearly every spot on the field than their counterparts.

Over/Under

UNDER 43.5 (-110) is the lean, but go lightly. The last time FAU hit the road it dropped 56 points on USF in Tampa. However, Charlotte can’t get out of its own way on offense, and it has averaged just 8.3 PPG in the past 4 outings, cashing the Under in all games. FAU will have to do most of the heavy lifting to get to an Over, and the Charlotte defense is actually pretty good, keeping the 49ers in most games.

Charlotte at Florida odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Charlotte at Florida odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Charlotte 49ers (1-2) and the Florida Gators (2-1) meet Saturday night at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Fla. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+/SEC Network+). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Charlotte vs. Florida odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Charlotte opened the season with a 24-3 win over South Carolina State of the FCS, but it is 0-2 straight up (SU) in its 2 games against FBS opponents Maryland and Georgia State. The Over has hit in the past 2 outings as Charlotte has allowed 39.5 points per game (PPG).

Florida stumbled out of the gate with a 24-11 setback at Utah on Aug. 31, and it was really more lopsided than that but was salvaged by a late TD and 2-point conversion. It bounced back by spanking McNeese 49-7 on Sept. 9 and Florida picked up a 29-16 win over Tennessee last weekend at The Swamp. It was also Florida’s first cover. The Under is 2-0-1 for the Gators.

Charlotte at Florida picks and predictions

Prediction

Florida 45, Charlotte 13

Moneyline

Florida (-7000) will cost you 70 times your potential return, and while it is nearly a certainty that the Gators will push past Charlotte in rather easy fashion, that’s way too much risk for not enough reward. Even tossing Florida into a parlay with several other teams takes all of the value out of your ticket.

PASS.

Against the spread

FLORIDA -27.5 (-122) is a decent play laying the points. The only concern is a hangover after the emotional victory against Tennessee.

The Gators have covered just once in 3 games, and it missed the cover against McNeese in their only game as a favorite to date. Florida comes with a little risk, but Charlotte has allowed at least 38 points in each of its 2 games against FBS foes, and it will struggle hard to keep Florida from posting a rout.

Over/Under

OVER 48.5 (-110) is worth a look in this non-conference tilt, and it isn’t hard to envision the Gators taking care of the total all on their own.

The 49ers have allowed 79 points in the past 2 games against Maryland and Georgia State, cashing the Over in both outings. If Charlotte couldn’t stop those teams, imagine how poorly that beleaguered defense will perform in The Swamp.

FAU at Charlotte odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s FAU Owls at Charlotte 49ers odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The FAU Owls (3-3, 1-1 Conference USA) travel to meet the Charlotte 49ers (4-2, 2-0) Thursday at Jerry Richardson Stadium in Charlotte. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the FAU vs. Charlotte odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Owls have been dominant at home, while struggling mightily on the road. FAU was steamrolled 31-14 as a 3.5-point underdog at UAB Oct. 9. The Owls are 0-3 straight up/1-2 against the spread (ATS) in three road games, averaging just 11.7 points per game (PPG).

The 49ers slapped around the FIU Golden Panthers 45-33 in their last game, improving to 2-0 in the C-USA East standings. Charlotte is also an impressive 4-1-1 ATS, including 3-0 SU/ATS in three home games.

FAU at Charlotte odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

FAU 31, Charlotte 27

Money line

FAU (-280) is winless on the road this season, but it’s heavily favored against a Charlotte team which hasn’t lost at home. That’s way too risky, although I do like the Owls to scratch out a close win behind senior QB N’Kosi Perry.

AVOID and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

CHARLOTTE +7.5 (-120) is the best play on the board, perhaps for the entire slate of games Thursday. I love the 7 and a hook.

FAU -7.5 has been mediocre offensively on the road, and it’s 0-3 SU/ATS. Charlotte is 3-0 SU/ATS, including a win over Duke in the opener, its first-ever win over a Power 5 team.

Look for the 49ers to keep it close, if not win outright.

Over/Under

OVER 56.5 (-115) is the lean, although this is only worth a small-unit play. Charlotte is throwing up 29.8 PPG, ranking 57th in the nation, and it has a very balanced offense.

The defense has been shaky, allowing 447.7 total yards per game to rank 113th, and that’s why the 49ers are underdogs at home. Teams have gouged the 49ers on the ground, too, as Charlotte ranks 124th out of 130 FBS teams against the run, yielding 224.3 yards per game.

Charlotte at FIU odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Charlotte 49ers at FIU Panthers odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Charlotte 49ers (3-2, 1-0 CUSA) and Florida International Panthers (1-4, 0-1) tangle in a Friday night contest at Riccardo Silva Stadium in Miami. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Charlotte vs. FIU odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Charlotte heads on the road for the third time in four weeks. The 49ers are coming off a 24-14 loss at Illinois in which Charlotte was held to a season-low 263 yards. The 49ers were torched for 336 yards on the ground, and that’s part of a season-long trend. Charlotte ranks 128th in FBS with 254.8 rushing yards allowed per game.

The Panthers are back at home after losing three straight on the road and FIU has dropped four straight overall. For the season, the Panthers rank 118th with 35.2 points allowed per game and 128th in total defense with 502.8 yards allowed per game. Florida International is looking for its first Conference USA victory since Nov. 2, 2019.

The 49ers and Panthers are meeting on the gridiron for the first time since 2019. FIU is 5-0 all-time against Charlotte (2-2-1 against the spread).

Charlotte at FIU odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Charlotte 38, FIU 35

Money line

Charlotte has a win over Duke and a respectable outing at Illinois on its record. The 49ers look to be getting a bit too much of a lean with the public, and the betting lean here is with the Panthers.

PASS on the money line, though. A price of +145 or better would be required for any value.

Against the spread

Panther QB Max Bortenschlager has tossed 2 TD passes in each game. The redshirt senior is a transfer from Maryland who has thrown for 250-plus yards in four of five games.

Bortenschlager has some talented weapons to target, and that FIU pass game gives the home side a puncher’s chance against a Charlotte team on a short week and playing its third road game in four weeks.

BACK FIU +3.5 (-115).

Over/Under

The Over is 4-1 in this series, and the four wins have been decisive (23.6-point margin of cover).

The FIU defense hasn’t really stopped anyone. Look for Charlotte to have success running the ball and in producing a few explosive plays in the passing game. Peg the Panthers as being able to manufacture some big plays in the air as well.

In analytic measures like havoc and finishing drives, both offenses figure to have a sizable advantage.

TAKE THE OVER 60.5 (-112).

Middle Tennessee at Charlotte odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Middle Tennessee at Charlotte odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (1-2) visit the Charlotte 49ers (2-1) in a Conference USA tussle at Jerry Richardson Stadium Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Middle Tennessee vs. Charlotte odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Middle Tennessee is coming off a 27-13 loss to Texas-San Antonio. The Blue Raiders had just 8 rushing yards and 11 first downs in that contest. A struggling MTU’s lone win was against FCS Monmouth Sept. 4.

Perhaps some solace for that iffy Middle Tennessee run game, one ranked 128th in FBS with 56.7 yards per game, is that Charlotte ranks 128th in run defense (270.7 YPG). The 49ers are coming off a 20-9 loss against Georgia State. GSU had more rushing yards in that game (284) than Charlotte had total yards (276).

Middle Tennessee at Charlotte odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Middle Tennessee 27, Charlotte 24

Money line

BACK THE BLUE RAIDERS (+122).

These two foes didn’t play each other last fall due to a COVID-19 cancelation. Charlotte downed Middle Tennessee, 34-20, in 2019. So, MTU is in a revenge spot here. Since 2017, head coach Rick Stockstill’s Blue Raider teams have gone 7-1 against the spread in next-year revenge opportunities. This chance comes two years out.

The Raiders are not a good offensive team and are making a quarterback change this week, with junior QB Chase Cunningham taking the reins. Cunningham has appeared in all three games this year, passing for 259 yards and 3 touchdowns while completing 63.3% of his pass attempts.

Perhaps, that offense clicks more, but it’s the MTU defense worth the play in this contest. The Raiders have done well to force plenty of three-and-outs while limiting big plays and red-zone punch-ins.

Figure on Middle Tennessee hanging around in a low-scoring game and having a legitimate shot at a straight-up victory on the road.

Over/Under

Both teams could struggle to sustain drives Friday. Both have filed impressive performances in stifling drives in their own end. The 49ers defense has cranked out 2.3 sacks per game and could present a hassle for new-to-the-party Cunningham.

TAKE THE UNDER 56.5 (-115).

Duke Blue Devils at Charlotte 49ers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Duke Blue Devils at Charlotte 49ers odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Duke Blue Devils and Charlotte 49ers will meet Friday in the season opener at Jerry Richardson Stadium in Charlotte. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Duke vs. Charlotte odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Blue Devils had a rather forgettable COVID-shortened 2020 campaign, winning just two of its 11 games, while failing to cover the final four outings. One of those wins, and its most recent cover, came against Charlotte, a 53-19 treat on Halloween.

The 49ers actually have a pretty experienced roster, and things are looking up. QB Chris Reynolds is pretty special, and WR Victor Tucker leads an experienced and deep corps. The biggest issue is the run game, where there isn’t much experience. The D allowed 32.5 PPG and 6.6 yards per play, so that needs tremendous improvement.

Duke at Charlotte odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Charlotte 34, Duke 30

Money line

CHARLOTTE (+190) kicks off its 2021 season with a lot of hope of getting back to the postseason after a down year in the COVID-shortened campaign last season. If the 49ers want to turn some heads early, they’ll need to get by a Power 5 team like Duke (-240), albeit one of the lower-echelon teams from the ACC.

It isn’t a shot in the dark, however. The 49ers have a legit offense, especially in the pass game. With a chance to double up, Charlotte is the value play.

Against the spread

The best play is CHARLOTTE +6.5 (-110) with the points, and I’d feel even better if it was a flat seven or seven and a hook.

The 49ers have the offensive weapons to hang with Duke -6.5 (-110), who failed to cover its final four last season while allowing 48 or more points in each of the outings. Charlotte should be able to move the ball well on its home field.

Over/Under

The lean is to the OVER 60.5 (-108) as the 49ers should be able to score their fair share, even though the Blue Devils offense is in disarray. The Duke defense is worse, as they lost five of its best players from a unit that coughed up 38.1 PPG. This game is not going to end well for Duke or Under bettors.
