Report: Jags have met with Division II standout WR Mike Strachan of Charleston

The Jags appear to be one of three teams with their eyes on Division II standout Mike Strachan of Charleston University.

After a 1-15 season that marked the worst record in the NFL, the Jacksonville Jaguars are the team that needs to cast the widest net to acquire prospects this offseason. One of the latest prospect interviews by the Draft Network’s Justin Meloproves they’ve been doing just that with a Division II standout.

That player is Charleston receiver Mike Strachan, who Melo reported has met with the Jags, Carolina Panthers, and Los Angeles Chargers virtually this offseason. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound pass-catcher was also scheduled to attend the 2021 NFL Combine, which would’ve given him some more exposure this offseason, but the NFL decided to cancel the annual event because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Still, even without Strachan attending a pre-draft all-star game or having to attend the combine, it’s easy to see how he got on the NFL’s radar. From the highlights that we could garner, he clearly used his size well, was a threat up the sidelines, and flourished in 50-50 jump ball situations. Those traits helped him to finish the 2019 season with 78 receptions for 1,319 receiving yards, and 19 touchdowns.

Yes, you read that right, 19 touchdowns.

In 2018, Strachan was able to accumulate just over 1,000 receiving yards, too, while adding 48 catches and eight touchdowns to the mix. As a result, he was an All-MEC player in his last two seasons in college.

Strachan also ran track for Charleston, where he was the 200-meter and 400-meter MEC Champion in back-to-back years. And as fans know, when a player has a solid mix of height, weight, and speed, the NFL won’t hesitate to let their interest be known.

While the Jags have Laviska Shenault Jr., D.J. Chark Jr., and Collin Johnson on the roster, it wouldn’t be shocking to see them add some more help at receiver during the offseason. With 11 draft picks, it wouldn’t hurt to add a late-round prospect, which Strachan could be viewed as by scouts. Then again, the young receiver says he expects to have a pro day sometime in March, and if Strachan knocks that out of the park, his projection could rise.

Regardless, Jags fans should watch Strachan’s name carefully heading forward. Once his pro day is official, we’ll be sure to update this story and monitor whether or not the Jags are in attendance.

Five 2020 second-round guard prospects for Boston to consider

The Boston Celtics don’t just have three first-round picks in the 2020 NBA Draft – they also have a pick in the middle of the second round, and these are five guards they should consider.

The Boston Celtics don’t know when they will be drafting the team’s next rookie class in the 2020 NBA Draft, but whenever it happens, the Celtics will have as many as four selections in it.

While they don’t know the date of the draft, they know they are certain to have at least two first-round draft picks. More likely, they will have three if the Memphis Grizzlies make the playoffs.

If the season ended today, they would.

They’ll also have a second round draft pick coming to them from the Atlanta Hawks currently slated to fall 46th overall.

And though the lion’s share of attention has fallen to the likely trio of first round picks, there might be a quality prospect to be had midway through the second round as well.

To that end, the Celtics Wire will look at five guards, bigs and wings who might be a good fit for Boston in that range, starting today with guards.

3 sleepers the Golden State Warriors could target in the NBA Draft

Could the Warriors find the next Eric Paschall in the 2020 NBA Draft?

While the NFL draft is leading headlines, the Golden State Warriors are dialing in for the NBA edition of draft day. With the worst record in the NBA, Bob Myers and Steve Kerr will have the opportunity to bring in a blue-chip prospect to the Bay Area at the start of the lottery.

Anthony Edwards, Onyeka Okongwu and LaMelo Ball have been popular at the start of many mock drafts projections for the Warriors. Outside of the top three, Deni Avdija, and Isaac Okoro have been trending names across draft boards.

Golden State will likely have their choice at the top of June’s draft, but what if they went off the board? With the championship core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green still in place, the Warriors could go in a bevy of directions with their selection.

The Warriors could trade the pick for a later spot in the lottery, or they could package their two-second rounders for a late first-round pick. Options will be on the table for Myers and Kerr.

The Warriors have been successful with navigating around the back end of the draft to find contributors. After being selected in the second round of the 2019 draft, Eric Paschall has blossomed into one of the Warriors’ key contributors as a rookie.

If the Warriors decide to go off the radar when it’s their time on the clock, here are three sleepers to consider
