Report refutes Chargers’ meeting with Tom Brady’s representation

The report of the Los Angeles Chargers meeting with Tom Brady’s representation to express interest in the 42-year old is false.

On Thursday, there was a report that the Los Angeles Chargers were among the teams that met with the representation of quarterback Tom Brady, who set to be a free agent, but it wasn’t to express interest in the 42-year old.

The team’s conversations with the agent, Carter Chow, were only in regards to cornerback Michael Davis, who shares the same agency as Brady, per source, according to ESPN’s Eric D. Williams.

Teams use the combine to gather information and gauge the market for potential free agents. But L.A. did not discuss Brady’s availability with his agency, Yee & Dubin Sports.

The conversations solely surrounded Davis, who is set to be a restricted free agent. Due to his status, the Chargers can place a tender on him rather than agreeing to a long-term deal.

Even though the talks weren’t about Brady, that doesn’t mean Los Angeles won’t show interest in the veteran when the free agency period begins on March 18.

After L.A. parted ways with Philip Rivers last month, buzz has continued to loom as them being potential suitors for the six-time Super Bowl champion.

Antonio Gates loves idea of QB Tom Brady joining Chargers

Antonio Gates said that he would be a fan of Tom Brady joining the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020.

The Tom Brady to the Los Angeles Chargers chorus isn’t going to come to an end until we know where the 42-year old is going to play in 2020.

Fans and analysts have voiced that it would be a great pairing. Well, you can add recently retired tight end Antonio Gates to the choir.

“If he comes here, I’m gonna be a big fan. I heard that he might come out here and bless us with his presence, and if he does that, it would be a great sight to see in L.A,” Gates said.

Brady is set to hit the free agency market. Quarterback Philip Rivers, who he caught passes from for 15 years, is currently a free agent this year as well.

Instead of advocating the team re-signing Rivers, he appeared to be more bought into the idea of bringing in another veteran quarterback to take the reins in 2020.

This isn’t to say that he was bashing Rivers – but more so just responding to the direction question that the reporter asked him and delivering his opinion.

There still hasn’t been an update on Rivers. Should the Chargers choose to move on from the 38-year old, he has said that he would be open to playing for another team in the NFL – that’s if he hasn’t changed his mind on retirement as the answer.

Shawne Merriman puts Tom Brady-to-Chargers chorus to a halt

Ex-Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman isn’t in favor of Tom Brady coming to Los Angeles.

There’s been some chatter of quarterback Tom Brady joining the Los Angeles Chargers for weeks now.

While some fans are in favor of the excitement that Brady could bring when the team moves into their new stadium, there’s a handful that don’t buy it, including former Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman.

“Everybody stop right now. All right? Tom Brady isn’t coming to the Chargers,” Merriman said via his official Twitter account.

Merriman believes that L.A. shouldn’t move on from Philip Rivers, and proceeds to say that if the franchise does cut ties with him, they will be looking to get younger at the quarterback position.

We concur with Merriman. Though the 42-year old would likely sell some tickets in SoFi Stadium, the team is better off rolling with Rivers for another year or even Tyrod Taylor to serve as a bridge to the potential rookie quarterback.

Tom Brady-to-Chargers choir continues to expand

Many believe that Tom Brady will be the starting quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020.

The Los Angeles Chargers might be in the market for a new quarterback given the fact that Philip Rivers is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

There are endless possibilities to fill the void that include re-signing Rivers, drafting one in the first-round, or trading for one. But there’s been one possibility that started as a fire but it continues to spread, and that’s signing Tom Brady.

Brady, 42, is also expected to become a free agent. Like Rivers, he has expressed that he doesn’t see himself retiring. The narrative started because Brady is a California native, he would be able to market his TB12 brand and also add some buzz to a belittled fan base.

It’s been a popular pairing for many as of late. Most recently, NBC’s Cris Collinsworth said that Los Angeles would be his wild guess for Brady after Sunday’s playoff game, saying they would be franchise that could use him the most.

Days before Collinsworth made his prediction, Skip Bayless of FS1’s Undisputed said that he believes Saturday’s loss to the Titans will be the last time Brady suits up in a Patriots uniform, and will be the starting quarterback of the Chargers in 2020.

Nick Wright of FS1’s First Things First concurs.

As does Bart Scott and Pat McAfee of ESPN’s Get Up.

Until we find out what the team actually does, don’t expect the chorus of Brady to the Chargers to stop anytime soon.
