Chargers place two on injured reserve

The Chargers made a few roster moves on Wednesday.

The Chargers announced on Wednesday that linebacker Junior Colson and wide receiver Simi Fehoko were placed on injured reserve.

In correspondence, WR Jalen Reagor was signed to the active roster. Reagor takes the spot of tight end Eric Tomlinson, who was released on Tuesday and signed to the practice squad today.

Additionally, LB Shaquille Quarterman was signed to the practice squad and TE McCallan Castles was released from the practice squad.

Reagor, who was signed by Los Angeles earlier this season, has appeared in three games and has caught four passes on five targets for 76 yards.

The Chargers have two open spots on the 53-man roster.

Chargers signing WR Jalen Reagor to practice squad

The Chargers are adding a former first-round pick.

According to multiple reports, the Chargers are signing wide receiver Jalen Reagor.

NFL Insider Jordan Schultz said that Reagor will start on the practice squad with the likelihood that he will eventually get elevated to the active roster.

Reagor’s professional career started with the Eagles, who selected him in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft.

In his rookie season, Reagor recorded 31 catches for 396 yards and a touchdown. He tallied 57 catches for 299 yards and two scores in Year 2.

Reagor was traded to the Vikings in 2022. Despite the fresh start, he still failed to live up to his first-round billing, amassing just eight catches for 107 yards.

Minnesota released Reagor last year, and the Patriots eventually signed him. He posted seven catches for 138 yards. After signing a one-year, $1.3 million extension with New England in March, Reagor was released on Sept. 18.

Chargers sign 15 players to 2024 practice squad

The Chargers announced 15 players set to be on the practice squad.

The Los Angeles Chargers began announcing members of their practice squad on Wednesday, signing the following players:

G Karsen Barnhart

TE Luke Benson

EDGE Andrew Farmer

TE Tucker Fisk

CB Matt Hankins

DL Christopher Hinton

LB Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste

WR Cornelius Johnson

WR Jaylen Johnson

CB Robert Kennedy

OT Alex Leatherwood

EDGE Tre’Mon Morris-Brash

DL CJ Okoye (IPP)

LB Shaq Quarterman

RB Isaiah Spiller

Teams can have up to 16 players on their practice squad, but for the Bolts, they can have up to 17 players because they have an exemption to add Okoye as an extra player through the International Player Pathway Program.

Therefore, two more players will be added to round out the group.

Report: Chargers signing Sam Mustipher to practice squad

The Chargers signed former Bears, Ravens, and Broncos center Sam Mustipher to the practice squad on Wednesday.

The Chargers have added depth on the interior of the offensive line.

Los Angeles signed Sam Mustipher to the practice squad on Wednesday, adding a center with nearly 3,000 snaps of experience to the depth chart behind Bradley Bozeman and Brenden Jaimes.

Mustipher spent the 2023 season with Baltimore, seeing action in seven games and starting two for the Ravens, all at center. Prior to that, he spent the first three seasons of his career with the Bears.

The Broncos released Mustipher on Tuesday and reportedly had an offer to return to Denver’s practice squad, but chose to sign with the Chargers instead. It ends up being a one-for-one swap after tight end Donald Parham Jr. reportedly signed with the Broncos practice squad earlier in the day.

A 2019 undrafted free agent from Notre Dame, Mustipher graded out well in the preseason for Denver but was stuck behind starter Luke Wattenberg and backup Alex Forsyth, who were roster locks for the Broncos. He will now reunite with Joe Hortiz, likely a major reason why the Chargers made the move.

Los Angeles will continue to fill out the practice squad on Wednesday.

When do the Chargers have to make final roster cuts?

Find out when the Chargers will have their roster set to the mandatory 53 players.

The Chargers will begin trimming their roster now that the preseason is in the rearview.

Los Angeles must reduce its roster to 53 players by Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m. PT.

In previous seasons, teams had multiple deadlines during the cutdown process. But now, the league reverted to just one big cut to the mandatory 53 players.

On Wednesday, the claiming period for players placed on waivers at the final roster reduction will expire at 9 a.m. PT. Then, L.A. will begin assembling its practice squad of 16 players.

Chargers make roster moves ahead of Week 17 game vs. Broncos

The Chargers signed a wide receiver to the active roster.

The Chargers signed wide receiver Keelan Doss to the active roster ahead of the Week 17 matchup against the Broncos.

Additionally, they elevated defensive tackle Christopher Hinton and offensive lineman Austen Pleasants from the practice squad.

The signing of Doss comes after Keenan Allen and Joshua Palmer were ruled out. Doss joins a wide receiver room that consists of Quentin Johnston, Jalen Guyton, Alex Erickson and Derius Davis.

Doss has been promoted from the practice squad three times this season, logging 20 offensive snaps with zero targets.

Before joining the Bolts last season, Doss signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2019. That year, he had 11 catches for 133 yards on 14 targets.

Doss was released in 2021 and then went on to join the practice squads of the Jaguars, Falcons, Jets and Giants across a four-year span.

Chargers promote two players from practice squad

The Chargers announced the elevation of two practice squad players ahead of the Week 11 matchup vs. the Packers.

The Chargers announced the promotion of two practice squad players ahead of the Week 11 matchup against the Packers.

Los Angeles promoted wide receivers Terrell Bynum and Alex Erickson.

The moves come after Keenan Allen and Jalen Guyton being questionable for Sunday’s game.

Allen is dealing with an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder, while Guyton has an illness.

Bynum is an undrafted rookie out of USC. He finished his collegiate career with 1,093 receiving yards.

Erickson signed to the Chargers’ practice squad ahead of the 2023 season. He has played 80 games (14 starts) in five seasons, totaling 93 receptions, 1,086 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown.

TE Stephen Anderson returns to Chargers on practice squad

Stephen Anderson was a solid blocker for the Chargers in 2021.

The Chargers brought back a familiar face to Los Angeles as they signed tight end Stephen Anderson to the practice squad. In a corresponding move, safety Mark Webb was released to make space.

Anderson was with the Chargers for three years starting in 2019. In 2020 and 2021, he played 33 games with LA as a core blocker for their tight end room. As a pass blocker and run blocker, Anderson recorded positive scores for the group. In 2020 and 2021, his average pass-blocking grade was 67.6.

While he didn’t contribute much in the receiving game relatively speaking, Anderson also showed he could be used in that way if needed. On 29 targets in 2020 and 2021, he recorded 271 yards. Anderson played a lesser role on a smaller snap count with the Cardinals in 2022.

Much has been made of the Chargers’ blocking situation in recent games this season. They have gotten poor blocking efforts via PFF tracking from Stone Smartt and the recently waived Tre’ McKitty. While Anderson won’t contribute much from an offensive perspective, he absolutely could be used as a blocker if need be.

Part of the reason for the signing could be the injury status of Gerald Everett. Everett left last week’s game against Detroit with a back injury and did not return. Per Daniel Popper of The Athletic, he did not practice for the Chargers on Wednesday.

Time will tell what Anderson’s role ends up being in LA for the rest of the season, but the signing certainly provides the Chargers with some options at tight end. A receiving option that has some previous experience with quarterback Justin Herbert could help team chemistry as well.

Chargers sign Christopher Hinton to active roster, 2 to practice squad

The Chargers made a few roster moves on Monday.

The Chargers made a few roster moves on Monday.

Los Angeles signed defensive tackle Christopher Hinton to the active roster.

L.A. also announced they signed center Cameron Tom and defensive back Mark Webb Jr. to the practice squad.

Hinton appeared in four games for the Chargers in 2022, recording three tackles and a quarterback hit. He was waived last week to make room for cornerback Essang Bassey.

Tom has spent time with the Saints and Dolphins and has appeared in 13 games, with one start for New Orleans in 2017. He recently was on the Eagles’ practice squad in 2022.

Webb, Los Angeles’ seventh-round pick, appeared in seven games before landing on the injured reserve in 2021. He has been a mainstay on the Chargers’ practice squad since then.
