Here’s how the Chargers can clinch a playoff berth in Week 16

The Los Angeles Chargers can clinch a playoff spot in Week 16.

The Chargers can clinch a playoff spot in Week 16.

Here’s how:

  1. Win over Broncos + Dolphins loss or tie to 49ers + Colts loss or tie to Titans
  2. Tie + Dolphins loss to 49ers + Colts loss to Titans + Bengals loss or tie to Browns

The Bolts are 8-6 and currently hold the No. 7 seed in the AFC, with three games left to be played in the regular season.

1. Chiefs (13-1)

2. Bills (11-3)

3. Steelers (10-4)

4. Texans (9-5)

5. Ravens (9-5)

6. Broncos (9-5)

7. Chargers (8-6)

8. Colts (6-8)

9. Dolphins (6-8)

10. Bengals (6-8)

NFL playoff picture: Chargers now control destiny for 5-seed

The Chargers are in a great spot.

After beating the Rams on Sunday, the Chargers put them in a position to finish no worse than the sixth seed.

But after the Ravens lost to the Steelers on Sunday night, Los Angeles is in the driver’s seat for the fifth seed.

The Bolts can solidify the fifth spot with a win over the Broncos next weekend.

This is the most ideal scenario for L.A.

With the No. 5 seed, the Chargers would play the fourth seed, which will be the AFC South winner between the Titans and the Jaguars.

Should they finish as the sixth seed, Los Angeles would be set to face the third seed, whether that be the Bills, Chiefs, Bengals or Ravens, on the road.

With the defense dominating the last four weeks, Joey Bosa back on the field, and the offense finding its groove, the Bolts are primed to be a dangerous team in postseason play.

Chargers’ playoff chances increase following Jaguars’ win over Jets

The Chargers are in a really good position.

The Jaguars beat the Jets on Thursday night, which increased the Chargers’ playoff chances from 82% to 86%, according to FiveThirtyEight.

New York losing to Jacksonville was one of the scenarios that needed to happen for Los Angeles to clinch a playoff berth this week.

Following the Jets’ loss, the Bolts now need to beat the Colts on Monday night, and the Patriots need to lose to the Bengals on Saturday night and the Raiders to lose to the Steelers on Christmas Eve.

Even if New England and Las Vegas win, a Chargers’ win over Indianapolis would increase their playoff chances to 99%.

While getting the help they need would be ideal, Los Angeles essentially controls its destiny. And a win this weekend and next weekend against the Rams would clinch a playoff spot.

NFL Playoff Picture: Mapping the paths that remain for Chargers

The Chargers are a win away from making the playoffs. What seed can they get, and who might they play?

What a wild Week 18.

The Jaguars beat the Colts, which means that if the Chargers and Raiders’ Sunday night matchup ends in a tie, they will both make the playoffs.

With the Steelers defeating the Ravens, Pittsburgh will get into the playoffs as long as Los Angeles and Las Vegas do not tie.

Furthermore, the Jaguars’ and Steelers’ victory guaranteed the Bolts will get nothing lower than the No. 6 seed if they beat the Raiders.

If Las Vegas wins, Los Angeles is knocked out of playoff contention.

Here’s a look at the Chargers’ seeding outcome (with no tie):

No. 5 seed

Chargers win + Jets win + Patriots win = @ Bengals in Wild Card

No. 6 seed

Chargers win + Jets win + Dolphins win = @ Bengals in Wild Card

Chargers win + Bills win + Dolphins/Patriots win = @ Bills in Wild Card

Here’s a look at the Chargers’ seeding outcome (with tie):

No. 6 seed

Chargers tie + Jets win + Patriots win = @ Patriots in Wild Card

Chargers tie + Jets win + Dolphins win = @ Bengals in Wild Card

Chargers tie + Bills win + Dolphins/Patriots win = @ Bills in Wild Card
