Chargers’ updated 90-man roster by jersey number

Here’s a list of every player on the Los Angeles Chargers, in ascending order by jersey number.

At this point, all 32 NFL teams can carry up to 90 players on their offseason roster through training camp.

When the regular season starts, each roster will be cut to just 53 players, and 16 more can be stashed on the practice squad. Before that point, however, there will be cuts down to 85 and 80 players during preseason.

The Chargers roster currently stands at 88 players with training camp inching closer, so they can add two more if they choose to. Here’s a list of every player on the team, in ascending order by jersey number.

Poll: Which Chargers uniform combo is the best?

The Los Angeles Chargers have the best uniforms in the NFL, but which one ranks No. 1?

The Chargers possess arguably the best-looking uniforms in all of football, with those being the ones that were unveiled last year.

With that being said, now that Los Angeles has worn every single combination, I want to know which one sits atop of the throne.

Considering they’re all clean, it’s difficult to pick one. But the poll should allow us to gauge the general population’s clear cut No. 1 choice.

For reference, here are all the combinations:

  1. Powder Blue on Yellow
  2. White on White
  3. Powder Blue on White
  4. Royal on Royal
  5. White on Yellow
  6. Navy Blue on Navy Blue

Vote in the poll below to let us know which one ranks superior:

Derwin James, Kenneth Murray among Chargers who could change jersey numbers

NFL owners passed the rule to expand eligible jersey numbers for certain positions.

Changes are coming.

The NFL owners approved a rule change on Wednesday proposed by the Chiefs that loosens jersey number rules.

Before, running backs, wide receivers, linebackers, tight ends and defensive backs had to wear uniform numbers within a certain numerical range. Now, they will will now be eligible to wear single digits.

Previous rules

  • QB: 1-19
  • RB: 20-49
  • WR/TE: 10-19, 80-89
  • OL: 50-79
  • DL: 50-79, 90-99
  • LB: 40-59, 90-99
  • CB/S: 20-49
  • K/P: 1-19

New rules

  • QB: 1-19
  • RB/WR/TE: 1-49, 80-89
  • OL: 50-79
  • DL: 50-79, 90-99
  • LB: 1-59, 90-99
  • CB/S: 1-49
  • K/P: 1-19

Linebacker Kenneth Murray and safety Derwin James are two notable players likely to make the switch, resorting back to numbers that they wore in college.

Murray, who wore 56 in his rookie season, would change to No. 9 – the number he wore at Oklahoma. Meanwhile, James, who rocks 33, would switch to No. 3, which he rocked at Florida State.

Look: Derwin James sporting new Chargers uniform

It won’t be long until the whole team suits up in them.

We are still a little over a month away until the Chargers take the field in their new lavish uniforms that were unveiled earlier this offseason.

Over the past month, we’ve seen various players including quarterbacks Tyrod Taylor and Justin Herbert in the new helmets. But now the full threads are starting to be shown.

Safety Derwin James showcased the powder blue top and sunshine gold pants in a photoshoot that he took part in on Wednesday.

Check it out:

Los Angeles will bring back their classic powder blue jerseys for home games. The team also will have numbers on the helmets of each player. An alternate home uniform will have sunshine yellow pants.

The team’s away uniform will feature white jerseys. One combination will have yellow pants and the other will have white pants. The Chargers will have two color rush jerseys – a royal blue and a navy blue.
