After missing the past few months with a groin injury, edge defender Joey Bosa is expected to be back on the field this weekend against the Rams.

Head coach Brandon Staley said Friday that the Chargers plan to activate Bosa for Week 17.

Staley added that Bosa will likely be on a snap count as he works his way back into live-game action.

Bosa has been sidelined since Week 3 after undergoing surgery to aid some chronic issues in his core. He was designated to return this week and said he’s feeling better than he has in years.

Bosa recorded ten pressures, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble before being placed on injured reserve.

Chargers final injury report ahead of matchup with Rams

Chargers star safety Derwin James is out.

The Chargers had their final practice on Friday before the Week 17 matchup with the Rams.

Los Angeles will be without star safety Derwin James, who was ruled out with a concussion he sustained in last Monday’s victory over the Colts.

With James out, Alohi Gilman will start in his place. Gilman has made four starts this season, logging 50 tackles, three passes defended, a forced fumble and an interception.

Fullback Zander Horvath is questionable with an ankle injury.

James was named to the 2023 Pro Bowl team on Wednesday.

Defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day (knee/back) and cornerback Bryce Callahan (groin) were also limited participants.

CB Kemon Hall was the only non-participant.

Edge defender Joey Bosa has still not practiced and has not been designated for return from injured reserve.

Cornerback Bryce Callahan (groin), defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day (knee/back) and offensive tackle Trey Pipkins (knee) are questionable.

Callahan, Joseph-Day, Pipkins, and tight end Donald Parham, were all full participants on Friday.

Meanwhile, Mike Williams is off the injury report and is expected to play. Williams missed the past two games with a knee issue.

Corey Linsley cleared concussion protocol and is also set to play.

With James out, Nasir Adderley and Alohi Gilman will be the starting safeties. Ja’Sir Taylor is set to start in the slot with Callahan sidelined.

Both players ran routes. That was not the case on Wednesday.

Along with Allen and Williams, Gerald Everett (groin), Trey Pipkins (knee) and Chris Rumph (knee) were listed as limited.

JK Scott did not practice for the second straight day due to an illness.

The Chargers will have one more practice on Friday.

Allen and Williams participated in individual drills at practice Wednesday ahead of Los Angeles’ Week 11 matchup with the Chiefs on Sunday night.

When asked he is playing this weekend, Allen responded, “I hope.” Meanwhile, Williams said, “Maybe,” with a big smile and laugh.

Allen has been out since suffering a hamstring injury during the Bolts’ Week 1 victory over the Raiders.

Williams sustained a high ankle sprain in Week 7 against the Texans. The Chargers had their bye week the week after, and he has missed their last two games.

We will continue to monitor their statuses closely leading into the primetime showdown.

Chargers injury report: Keenan Allen, Trey Pipkins not practicing

The Chargers had a few notable players not on the practice field on Wednesday.

The Chargers returned to the practice field on Wednesday in preparation for their Week 10 matchup with the 49ers this Sunday night.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen was among the non-participants as he recovers from a hamstring issue that he reaggravated during the bye week. Allen was deemed day-to-day by head coach Brandon Staley.

Right tackle Trey Pipkins also did not practice. Pipkins aggravated the sprained MCL in his left knee in the second half against the Falcons. Staley said that he would be a game-time decision.

Foster Sarell worked at right tackle with the first team offensive line during individual as opposed to Storm Norton.

Edge defender Khalil Mack did not practice either. The reason for Mack’s is non-injury related and just a rest day.

Another player at the EDGE position group who did not practice was Chris Rumph II, who has a sprained MCL. Rumph worked out off to the side with a trainer. Staley said there is a chance he could play on Sunday, but it will be more of a game-time decision.

Running back Joshua Kelley, who is on the injured reserve with a sprained MCL, also did running off to the side.
