Everything to know from Chargers’ loss to Titans in Week 2

To recap the Chargers’ loss to the Titans, here is everything you need to know.

The Chargers fell to the Titans in overtime, 27-24.

To recap Week 2, here is everything you need to know:

Highlight: Chargers WR Keenan Allen hauls in touchdown vs. Titans

The Titans defense is too small.

Keenan Allen’s touchdown celebration said it all: The Titans are too small.

Justin Herbert dropped back on 4th and 4 from Tennessee’s eight-yard line, but had to deal with pressure from Titans defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons. Simmons got his hands on Herbert, hitting the quarterback in the helmet and drawing a flag. Herbert stumbled but stayed on his feet, scrambling to his left before firing a pass to Allen.

Allen was interfered with but made the catch in the end zone anyway for a touchdown that will be on the end-of-season highlight reel.

The Chargers added a two-point conversion with a pass to tackle Trey Pipkins to take an 11-0 lead.

Highlight: Chargers LB Kenneth Murray sacks Titans QB Ryan Tannehill

Watch Kenneth Murray make a splash play on fourth down.

Maybe Kenneth Murray should keep the green dot beyond this week.

(Okay, probably not.)

With a fourth and four from the Chargers 46, the Titans lined up to go for it and keep the pressure on LA’s defense. Ryan Tannehill took the snap and had no time to throw, as Murray came unblocked on a blitz and wrapped up the quarterback for a sack.

Tannehill lost 6 yards on the play, giving the Chargers the ball on the Titans’ side of midfield.

Who are the experts taking in Chargers vs. Titans?

Find out who are experts are picking between the Chargers and Titans.

The Los Angeles Chargers are 2.5-point favorites over the Tennessee Titans in Week 2 of the 2023 regular season. The over/under is 45.5 points, per BetMGM Sportsbook.

That means oddsmakers are taking bets on whether the two teams will combine to score more than or fewer than 45.5 points.

My score prediction for the game is a 24-14 win for the Bolts, with a combined total of 48 points. So if I were putting money behind my prediction, I’d bet the over.

As for game picks, analysts are leaning toward Brandon Staley’s Chargers in this one.

Staff predictions for Chargers vs. Titans in Week 2

Find out who the Chargers Wire staff is picking between Los Angeles and Tennessee.

The Los Angeles Chargers kick off Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 10:00 a.m. PT.

Who is going to come out victorious?

Here is a look at the predictions from each of our writers at Chargers Wire:

Gavino:

After facing defeat to the Dolphins last week, the Chargers will look to get in the win column. Offensively, Los Angeles had no problem lighting up the scoreboard against Miami, finishing with 34 points. While they surrendered 36 points to Miami, the Titans don’t present an offense near as explosive as them. Ryan Tannehill struggled against the Saints, throwing three interceptions on the day. Derrick Henry could pose a threat on the ground, but Tennessee will be without Peter Skoronski, their best offensive lineman. I expect Los Angeles’ defense to bounce back and Justin Herbert to light it up against a thin Titans secondary.

Chargers 24, Titans 14

Alex K:

Los Angeles has plenty of opportunities to get right on defense this week with an anemic Tennessee passing attack on deck. Limiting Derrick Henry’s impact will be a big concern, of course. But with Peter Skoronski out with an illness, the Titans will be missing their best lineman, and the Chargers have the talent to capitalize.

On offense, LA will have much more room to throw the ball all over the yard. Expect big games from Justin Herbert and Mike Williams if all goes according to plan. The absence of Austin Ekeler hurts, but Joshua Kelley played well last week and should be competent enough to keep things moving.

Chargers 27, Titans 17

Alex I:

The Chargers are dealing with a banged-up roster after their Week 1 loss to Miami with key injuries to Austin Ekeler, Joey Bosa, and Eric Kendricks. Going on the road against a well-coached team in the 1 p.m. ET slot is never easy.

That being said, it’s LA’s overall offensive firepower that wins this game for me. The defense should snap back decently well with this Titans’ game. Ryan Tannehill looked lost against the Saints last week and this offensive line does not have the best ability to block for Derrick Henry.

This passing offense should be able to get going. The Titans allowed the second-most explosive pass plays in the NFL last week behind the Chargers. With Ekeler out, I see Kellen Moore firmly turning over the keys to let Justin Herbert cook in this one against a banged-up Tennessee secondary.

It will be close because of the Vrabel factor and the Chargers’ injuries, but the Chargers eek this out like last year’s Titans game.

Chargers 21, Titans 20

Chargers’ Austin Ekeler, Eric Kendricks ruled out vs. Titans

The Chargers will be without a key player on both sides of the ball when they face the Titans.

The Chargers will be without a key player on both sides of the ball when they face the Titans on Sunday, as Austin Ekeler and Eric Kendricks have been ruled out.

Ekeler is nursing an ankle injury that is being deemed just a sprain, while Kendricks has a hamstring injury.

Joshua Kelley will be Los Angeles’ lead back. Kenneth Murray will be the primary defensive play-caller. Amen Ogbongbemiga or Nick Niemann will likely be the one to play alongside Murray.

Additionally, Chris Rumph II, who also has a hamstring injury, was downgraded to out for this weekend.

L.A. activated Brevin Allen and safety Dean Marlowe from the practice squad in correspondence.
