Wednesday’s injury report for Chargers ahead of matchup vs. Titans

The Chargers had five players on the first injury report.

The Chargers had their first practice before Sunday’s matchup with the Titans on Wednesday.

Here’s a look at the team’s injury report:

Player Injury Wednesday Thursday Friday Game Status
EDGE Joey Bosa Hamstring DNP
RB Austin Ekeler Ankle/Personal DNP
LB Daiyan Henley Hamstring DNP
LB Eric Kendricks Hamstring/Personal DNP
EDGE Chris Rumph  Hamstring LP

DNP: Did not practice; LP: Limited participation; FP: Full participation

Brandon Staley said Bosa had some hamstring soreness after the game against the Dolphins and his status is to be determined.

If Bosa had to miss this weekend’s contest, rookie Tuli Tuipulotu would start opposite Khalil Mack. If Rumph is sidelined again, two will be elevated out of Andrew Farmer, Ty Shelby and Brevin Allen.

Ekeler is nursing an ankle issue he suffered this past Sunday in the loss against Miami. He was a non-participant on Wednesday as he was at the funeral of his agent, Cameron Weiss.

Staley said the same about Kendricks as he did about Bosa: he had hamstring soreness and his status is TBD.

Wednesday’s injury report for Chargers ahead of matchup vs. Dolphins

The Chargers only had two players on the first injury report.

EDGE Chris Rumph II Hamstring LP

DNP: Did not practice; LP: Limited participation; FP: Full participation

Henley has been nursing a hamstring injury he sustained in the preseason finale against the 49ers.

The biggest takeaway from the injury report is that cornerback J.C. Jackson is not on it, indicating that he is fully recovered from his patellar tendon injury that ended his 2022 season.

“I’m not putting any limit on my knee. I’m ready,” Jackson said.

Having Jackson back on the field will be huge for a Chargers defense that hopes he can return to his All-Pro form when he was with the Patriots.

Chargers WR Mike Williams misses practice again, questionable vs. Jaguars

The Chargers could be without a key piece of their offense on Saturday night.

The Chargers had their final practice before the Wild Card round matchup with the Jaguars.

Not on the practice field for the second consecutive day was wide receiver Mike Williams. Williams is dealing with a back contusion he sustained in the regular season finale against the Broncos.

Williams is listed as questionable for Saturday’s game.

Brandon Staley said Williams will be a game-time decision, adding that he is progressing and they are prioritizing rest and treatment.

At the beginning of the week, Staley was asked if Williams could play even if he didn’t practice at all. “I think that’s fair to say,” he responded.

If Williams is ruled out or on a snap count, Joshua Palmer and DeAndre Carter would be in line to see additional playing time alongside Keenan Allen.

During the regular season, Williams caught 63 passes for 895 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games.

Wild Card Week Tuesday Injury Report: Chargers vs. Jaguars

Checking on the Chargers’ injury situation heading into their Wild Card playoff game against the Jaguars.

With the Chargers playing on Saturday, they had their first practice on Tuesday ahead of the Wild Card playoff game against the Jaguars.

But since it was a walkthrough practice rather than the typical full-speed practice, the first injury report is an estimation of participation had Los Angeles held a full practice.

Mike Williams went through treatment on Tuesday and is “day-to-day,” per Brandon Staley. Staley expects Williams to practice at some point this week but is unsure of the capacity.

Joey Bosa will appear on the injury report with a groin designation, Staley said.

“Kind of like Justin [Herbert] last week — how you list a guy on the report, but they’re full [participation]. That’s just the nature of it,” Staley said of Bosa.

Kenneth Murray Jr. will be back in practice after sustaining a stinger that forced him out of the Week 18 matchup with the Broncos.

Chargers final Week 18 injury report: FB Zander Horvath questionable

Here are the Chargers and Broncos’ final injury reports.

The Chargers had their final practice on Friday before traveling to Denver to face the Broncos in the season finale.

The only player with a game status designation is fullback Zander Horvath, who is questionable with an ankle injury.

Offensive tackle Trey Pipkins (knee) was a limited participant on Thursday, but he was taken off the injury report and will play.

If Los Angeles can clinch the fifth seed before kickoff, they may rest their starters, which would be beneficial before the playoffs start next weekend.

Chargers’ Derwin James speaks on ejection, hit on Colts WR Ashton Dulin

Derwin James said he was trying to make a play and had no intentions of hurting Ashton Dulin.

In Week 16 against the Colts, Chargers star safety Derwin James was ejected in the second quarter.

James lowered the crown of his helmet and connected it with the shoulder and neck of wide receiver Ashton Dulin.

James was flagged for unnecessary roughness and ultimately kicked out for the illegal hit on a defenseless receiver. Dulin was later ruled out with a concussion that caused him to miss the rest of the game.

James was also diagnosed with a concussion that sidelined him in last Sunday’s game against the Rams.

On Thursday, at his media availability, James said he was trying to make a play and had no intentions of hurting Dulin.

“I’m not a dirty player,” James said.

James is donned as one of the league’s best safeties, known for his ability to play multiple spots across the field at a high level. But he is also lauded for his physicality as a tackler.

“If you look at how I play every week, I’m not out to hurt nobody,” James said. “I don’t play the game that way. I wasn’t taught the game that way. I’m trying to play fast and aggressive for my team and make a play.”

The NFL decided not to suspend James for the hit, but he was still given a $25,462 fine.

James cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol and is back with the Chargers.

“I’m 100%,” James said.
