Chargers claim WR Austin Proehl off waivers

The Los Angeles Chargers add another player to a deep wide receiver group.

The Chargers claimed wide receiver Austin Proehl off waivers on Tuesday.

Proehl was released by the 49ers on Monday after the team signed WR Marqise Lee.

Drafted by the Bills in the seventh-round in 2018 out of the University of North Carolina, Proehl has spent time on the practice squads of the Titans and Rams.

He has never played in a regular-season game.

Proehl also played in the XFL league for the Seattle Dragons before the league was shut down due to COVID-19, where he had 16 catches for 225 yards and was the first player to score a touchdown.

Proehl will compete for a spot on Los Angeles’ depth chart at wide receiver with Jalen Guyton, Tyron Johnson, Josh Palmer, Joe Reed, K.J. Hill, Jason Moore and John Hurst.
