WATCH: Demario Davis leads the Saints pregame huddle before Week 3 kickoff

No one can say the New Orleans saints lack for veteran leadership. Not with All-Pro linebacker Demario Davis leading them each week. The team’s defensive captain has taken over Drew Brees’ long-running tradition of delivering a pregame speech, gathering his teammates around to hype them up before kickoff each week.

They’ll need it. Facing a 1-1 start and a tough road game against an always-pesky divisional opponent, it’ll take everything Davis and the other leaders on the team have to keep everyone focused and energized in a high-pressure scenario. Let’s see if they can come away with a win at Bank of America Stadium.

Jaguars celebrate 904 day, encourage fans to show their team pride for free tickets

With a good enough “DUUUVAL” chant today, you could win free tickets to see the #Jaguars up close.

The Jacksonville Jaguars regular season kickoff is officially just one week away. Anticipation is building for fans, and the team knows that their supporters want to get involved in wishing them well before the grueling 17-game schedule gets underway.

Today’s date, September Fourth, has been dubbed 904 Day in honor of Duval County, Florida’s area code. The Jaguars are encouraging all die-hard Jacksonville Fans to get involved in celebrating their hometown by sending them their most enthusiastic and creative “DUUUVAL” chant for a chance to win free tickets to a game this season.

Check out the Tweet that the team put out to announce the competition here, and be sure to click the link to check all the terms and conditions that apply to win your chance to see the team up close:

The race is officially on to show the Jaguars the most creative and excited “DUUUVAL” chant of all time. It might seem like a silly sweepstakes opportunity, but the team knows that Jacksonville fans are all too serious in their support of their beloved team.

This competition is just one of what is sure to be a series of pre-kickoff activities that the team will undertake to drum up support ahead of their 2022 redemption campaign.

There is a sort of sick irony to all this, in that a team that has lost so many games over the past two seasons is seeking the most vociferous chant of support. Some might think that the best way to secure the adulation they’re looking for might be to win football games, but free tickets will probably do the trick as well.

2022 will be an exercise in rebuilding the Jaguars roster and reputation for the front office and coaching staff, and for fans should be an exercise in patience. Though Jacksonville has valuable pieces in place at key positions on their team, it will take more than chants or tickets to get back to playing winning football in the 904.

Saints pregame huddle, Week 9: Demario Davis and Drew Brees set the tone

New Orleans Saints captains Demario Davis and Drew Brees gathered their teammates for a weekly pregame huddle before kickoff with Tampa Bay.

The New Orleans Saints have rattled off four victories in a row, so they aren’t changing anything up any time soon as far as their pregame rituals are concerned. That includes a characteristically fiery speech from linebacker Demario Davis and quarterback Drew Brees, both team captains, in the final minutes before kickoff with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

But there’s a new face in the middle of the team huddle: wide receiver Michael Thomas, eyes locked in an intently nodding along with the cadence from Davis and Brees. Thomas hasn’t suited up for a game since exiting Week 1’s win over the Buccaneers, so he’s appropriately laser-focused on helping his team pull off the upset.

They certainly won’t be lacking for motivation. Beyond the sort of leadership Davis and Brees put on display here, the Saints can become the first division rival to ever sweep Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady with a win. Here’s hoping they can carry this energy over into the game,

How much is leadership worth? The New Orleans Saints roster is stocked with more respected veterans than maybe any other team in the league, so it’s no surprise to see linebacker Demario Davis and quarterback Drew Brees delivering a pregame speech to their huddled teammates before their “Sunday Night Football” game with the Green Bay Packers.

“The thing you feel in your stomach, the thing you feel in your chest, thatโ€™s greatness. Thatโ€™s greatness,” Davis repeated. “You gotta pull that greatness out.”

Brees has given these sort of rah-rah speeches for a decade, usually capped off with a unifying chant. But when he wasn’t able to join the team after undergoing thumb surgery last season, Davis filled in. And the veteran linebacker did so well that he’s now the first voice teammates hear in the final minutes before kickoff.

We’re certainly fired up after listening to Davis and Brees hype up their squad. Let’s see whether it makes a difference against Green Bay.
