Titans sign Chandler Brewer to practice squad, waive Cole Spencer

The Tennessee Titans stayed busy on Tuesday making a small move on their practice squad.

While the players enjoyed their day off, the Tennessee Titans’ front office and coaching staff were hard at work managing their roster as they continued to kick every stone, searching for depth.

In a minor transaction, they made a move on their practice squad, waiving offensive lineman Cole Spencer and signing offensive lineman Chandler Brewer to fill that spot. Brewer may not be the answer to the hole at right tackle, but he has some NFL experience and could add needed depth on the interior of the offensive line.

Hailing from Middle Tennessee State University, Brewer earned First Team All-Conference-USA honors his senior year and subsequently signed as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Los Angeles Rams in 2019.

Brewer. has appeared in 13 games, including four starts during his career. After spending 2023 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he started the 2024 campaign with the New Orleans Saints, but was waived with an injury designation on August 6.

The Titans will return to practice on Wednesday when they begin preparations for their Week 11 tilt with the Minnesota Vikings.

Saints waive undrafted free agent guard Nouri Nouili

The New Orleans Saints have made their corresponding move to the Chandler Brewer signing, waiving rookie guard Nouri Nouili:

The New Orleans Saints signed offensive lineman Chandler Brewer on Friday to bolster their depth after injuries to Shane Lemieux and Justin Herron. A corresponding roster move came Saturday in their decision to waive undrafted free agent guard Nouri Nouili out of Nebraska, according to the Times-Picayune | Advocate’s Luke Johnson.

Nouili signed with the large wave of undrafted rookies back in April and received the standard three-year contract, worth on average $945,000 a year, though he received only $5,000 guaranteed. This deal will ultimately have little to no effect on the Saints salary cap moving forwards. Nouili received the second-lowest number of guaranteed money of the undrafted free agent class for the Saints, ahead of only Trajan Jeffcoat.

Ultimately the Saints decided to go with the offensive lineman with a couple of years of experience over Nouili, as they desperately could use help there between injuries and lack of quality depth in general. Neither player may end up making the roster regardless once injuries clear up, but it ‘s good to have camp bodies with NFL level experience if anything.

Saints signing recently-released former Jaguars OL

Saints signing recently-released former Jaguars OL

New Orleans is signing former Jacksonville offensive lineman Chandler Brewer, according to his agency.

The Jaguars released Brewer from their injured reserve on July 16. He was placed on the reserve in June after suffering an undisclosed injury in mandatory minicamp.

Brewer signed with the Jaguars last April and spent most of the 2023 season on Jacksonville’s practice squad. He appeared in one game amid a late-season elevation to the active roster, against Cleveland in Week 14.

After going undrafted out of Middle Tennessee in 2019, Brewer signed with Los Angeles and spent the 2019-22 seasons bouncing between the Rams’ practice squad and active roster, appearing in 13 games.

Brewer opted out of the 2020 season amid the COVID-19 pandemic after battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in college.

Jacksonville entered its 2024 training camp with 15 offensive linemen on its 92-player roster: Tackles Cam Robinson, Anton Harrison, Walker Little, Javon Foster and Blake Hance; and interior linemen Ezra Cleveland, Mitch Morse, Brandon Scherff, Tyler Shatley, Luke Fortner, Cooper Hodges, Cole Van Lanen, Keaton Sutherland, Darryl Williams and Steven Jones.

New Orleans Saints sign offensive lineman Chandler Brewer

The Saints are adding some offensive line depth after multiple injuries at training camp. The team signed Chandler Brewer, per his agency:

After a couple of early training camp injuries, the New Orleans Saints have brought in some much-needed offensive line depth. The Saints are signing veteran Chandler Brewer per his agency Exclusive Sports Group.

Brewer played for four years at Middle Tennessee State, where he appeared in 53 games. He wasn’t drafted in 2019 but signed with the Los Angeles Rams, with whom he won a Super Bowl ring. Pro Football Focus gave him a 55.6 grade for his 228 snaps at right guard during the 2022 season. He wasn’t re-signed in 2023, at which point he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars and remained there until his release in June.

Besides Erik McCoy, Cesar Ruiz, and Taliese Fuaga in the starting lineup, there are a lot of spots open for grabs. This gives Brewer a chance to come in right away and compete. At the very least it’s good to have another veteran adding more competition in the locker room.

Report: Jaguars waive WR, release OL from injured reserve

Report: Jaguars waive WR, release OL from injured reserve

Jacksonville reportedly let a pair of players go from its injured reserve on Tuesday, waiving undrafted rookie wide receiver Wayne Ruby Jr. and releasing offensive lineman Chandler Brewer, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.

The Jaguars have yet to make either move official.

Ruby was originally waived with an injury designation by Jacksonville in May, after suffering an unspecified injury during the team’s rookie minicamp. He reverted to the Jaguars’ injured reserve shortly thereafter.

A five-year star at Division III Mount Union, memorably where former Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts III played college football, Ruby caught an incredible 362 passes for 5,624 yards and 74 touchdowns from 2019-23. He signed with Jacksonville after the 2024 NFL draft.

Jacksonville placed Brewer on injured reserve, also with an undisclosed hurt, in June after its mandatory minicamp. The club utilized Brewer’s open roster spot to sign wide receiver Kyric McGowan, who was eventually waived in favor of receiver Denzel Mims.

He opted out of the 2020 season amid the COVID-19 pandemic, after battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in college.

Once these moves are finalized, undrafted rookie wide receiver David White Jr. will become the only player on Jacksonville’s injured reserve.

Jaguars sign second tryout WR, place OL on injured reserve

Jaguars sign second tryout WR, place OL on injured reserve

The Jaguars have made another set of post-mandatory minicamp roster moves involving a wide receiver and an offensive lineman.

After signing tryout receiver Austin Trammell and releasing offensive lineman Jack Anderson on Wednesday, on Friday Jacksonville signed fellow tryout receiver Kyric McGowan and placed offensive lineman Chandler Brewer on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury, the team announced.

McGowan and Trammell each tried out for the Jaguars during minicamp between Monday and Wednesday.

An undrafted free agent from Georgia Tech in 2022, McGowan signed with Washington that offseason and spent most of his rookie campaign on the Commanders’ practice squad. He was elevated to the active roster for two games in the middle of the year and logged 29 total snaps.

McGowan was placed on Washington’s injured reserve last August and released shortly after that, leaving him without a team for the 2023 season.

McGowan and Trammell’s signings were foreshadowed by Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson earlier this week when he noted Jacksonville’s need for wide receiver depth, following season-ending knee injuries to undrafted rookie receivers Wayne Ruby Jr. and David White Jr. over the last month.

“We’re down obviously couple receivers with David going down last week. We’re definitely looking to fill you couple spots before we head into [training] camp,” Pederson said.

Brewer joined the Jaguars last offseason and spent most of 2023 on the team’s practice squad, although he was promoted to the active roster in November and remained there for over a month. He appeared in one game.

Undrafted out of Middle Tennessee in 2019, Brewer originally signed with Los Angeles and spent the 2019-22 seasons bouncing between the Rams’ practice squad and active roster, appearing in 13 games. He opted out of the 2020 season amid the COVID-19 pandemic, after battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in college.

Jaguars announce 14 players signed to reserve/future contracts

The Jaguars made the addition of 14 players official Tuesday.

A day after the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2023 season ended, the team signed 11 players to reserve/future deals, according to the NFL’s transaction wire.

More than a month later, the team has finally announced those signings along with a trio of other players. One of those three is kicker Riley Patterson, whose reunion with the Jaguars popped up on the transaction wire a week ago. The other two, tight end Josh Pederson and receiver Seth Williams, spent the 2023 season with Jacksonville.

Reserve/future deals, typically a minimum-salary contract, don’t count against the team’s salary cap or roster limit until the beginning of the next league year. Essentially that means those type of contracts are a way to keep players while roster limits haven’t yet been expanded back to a maximum of 90 players, which will happen when the new league year begins in March.

The notable omission from the list is running back Snoop Conner, who was picked by the Jaguars in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL draft. Here’s all 14 players who were officially added to the Jaguars’ roster Tuesday on reserve/futures contracts:

Jaguars 2023 roster review: OL Chandler Brewer

Chandler Brewer was one of two veteran offensive linemen signed by the Jaguars in free agency this offseason.

The brunt of the offseason is in the books and training camp is coming soon. Join us in the NFL’s dead zone with a player-by-player review of the Jaguars roster ahead of the 2023 season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars made big changes at offensive tackle during the offseason, allowing starting right tackle Jawaan Taylor to walk in free agency and replacing him with first-round pick Anton Harrison. Furthermore, a suspension for left tackle Cam Robinson has put a microscope on Walker Little, who appears primed to be the long-term solution as Trevor Lawrence’s blindside blocker.

All that attention on the starting lineup has made an intriguing battle for the other spots on the depth chart fly under the radar.

Chandler Brewer was one of two veteran free agents, along with Josh Wells, who was signed by the Jaguars to address depth.

The former Los Angeles Rams tackle, who overcame non-Hodgkin lymphoma in college, has 13 career games and four starts under his belt.

Contract (2023): $1.01 million base salary, $50,000 signing bonus, $52,500 roster bonus, $1,112,500 cap hit.

Acquired: Jaguars signed Brewer in free agency on April 5, 2023.

Jaguars sign former Rams OL Chandler Brewer

Chandler Brewer is heading to the Jaguars, signing with Jacksonville as a free agent

Another offensive lineman has made his way out of Los Angeles. The Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Wednesday that they have signed Chandler Brewer as a free agent. Brewer joins David Edwards as the second offensive lineman to leave the Rams in free agency this year.

The terms of Brewer’s contract were not disclosed.

The Rams could have easily retained Brewer if they wanted to, considering he was a restricted free agent. They chose not to tender him, however, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent.

The Rams did re-sign Coleman Shelton, so that move likely resulted in them letting Brewer leave after four seasons with the team. He signed with the Rams as an undrafted rookie in 2019 and was active for seven games that year.

He did not appear in any games in 2020 after opting out due to COVID-19 concerns. He then spent the 2021 season on the practice squad. Last season, he played six games and made four total starts.

Jaguars sign former Rams guard Chandler Brewer

The Jaguars added another offensive lineman to the roster Wednesday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed former Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Chandler Brewer, the team announced Wednesday.

Brewer, 25, signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft and spent the first four seasons of his career with the team. Brewer played in only 13 games during his time with the Rams and made four starts at right guard during the 2022 season.

In 245 career snaps, Brewer hasn’t allowed a sack and was credited with allowing one hit, via Pro Football Focus.

The Jaguars’ starting offensive line is largely in place with Cam Robinson and Walker Little expected to start at the tackle positions, Luke Fortner at center, and Brandon Scherff at right guard. The left guard role will likely be decided in training camp with Ben Bartch and Tyler Shatley currently set to battle for the spot.

Brewer is a versatile lineman with experience at both guard and tackle, who will likely battle for a backup role in Jacksonville.

Details of Brewer’s contract with the Jaguars haven’t yet been revealed.
