Stetson Bennett IV matches Joe Burrow’s CFP Championship touchdown mark

Bennett delivered a performance to challenge Burrow’s in Monday night’s 65-7 rout against TCU.

Stetson Bennett IV delivered one of the most memorable performances we’ve ever seen in a college football national championship game on Monday night.

In his final collegiate game, the 25-year-old Georgia quarterback led the Bulldogs to back-to-back titles with a 65-7 rout of the TCU Horned Frogs. Bennett led the way with six total touchdowns (four passing, two rushing) in the game.

That ties Joe Burrow’s mark for the most by any player in a College Football Playoff national title game. In LSU’s 45-20 win over Clemson after the 2019 season, Burrow threw for five touchdowns (which remains a CFP Championship record) and ran for one as the Tigers completed one of the most memorable seasons in FBS history.

Only five players have accounted for more than Bennett’s six touchdowns in a bowl game. Burrow is one of them thanks to his eight-touchdown performance against Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl semifinal in 2019.

Regardless, there’s no denying that Bennett was able to end his career in legendary fashion as the Bulldogs become the first program to win back-to-back since [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] — Kirby Smart’s mentor — did it at Alabama in 2011 and 2012.

Georgia players were eating wings from a luxury suite during their dominant CFP win over TCU

Eating on and off the field.

The Georgia Bulldogs won their second straight national championship on Monday night in a game where the offense was eating against an overmatched TCU defense.

And by eating, I mean they were literally having a meal on the sidelines.

Georgia running back Kendall Milton rushed for 33 yards and a touchdown in the Bulldogs’ 65-7 win, and as his way of saying thanks to his offensive line, he brought them some wings to enjoy on the bench.

The official College Football Playoff TikTok captured video of Milton going over to one of the field suites at SoFi Stadium and getting a plate of wings for his teammates.

You can briefly see the score in the video, showing that it was 59-7 at the time. So, yeah, the game wasn’t quite over, but it was effectively done.

Plus, they deserved some wings after that performance. College football fans thought the video was hilarious as well even if it was next-level disrespect.

Georgia singlehandedly hit the over in dominating national championship win over TCU

Georgia didn’t need any help to eclipse the over/under total.

The Georgia Bulldogs didn’t need any help from their counterpart in the College Football Playoff national championship to hit the over.

With the over/under set anywhere from 61.5 to 63.5, the Bulldogs got there on their own, reaching 65 points in the fourth quarter of a game in which Stetson Bennett IV and the majority of their starters were pulled long before the final whistle.

It’s a good thing for anyone who bet the over considering the TCU offense didn’t contribute anything at all after a first-quarter touchdown.

The UGA win was an excellent sendoff for Bennett in his final collegiate game, as he scored six total touchdowns (four rushing, two passing) while throwing for 304 yards and rushing for 39. The Bulldogs eclipsed 550 yards in a game that wasn’t close from the opening kick.

Anyone who bet the under in this game is surely regretting that decision.

Georgia romps, repeats as national champions

The Georgia Bulldogs are back-to-back champions after crushing TCU

Uga-ly. For TCU, that is.

Georgia blasted TCU out of SoFi Stadium on Monday night, 65-7, to repeat as national champions.

This could have been declared a no-contest at halftime. It was that one-sided.

Georgia led 10-7 at one point and then scored 55 straight points.

It didn’t matter whether it was the starters or reserves for the Dawgs. TCU had no answers.

Stetson Bennett threw for 304 yards and 4 touchdowns. He rushed for 39 yards and a pair of scores.

He left the game early in the fourth quarter.

It mattered not as the Dawgs added more scores.

TCU came into the contest at 13-0 but never had a chance in this one.

Kirby Smart had Georgia razor-sharp and it left the Horned Frogs battered and tattered.

Georgia vs TCU: College Football Playoff National Championship

Georgia vs TCU live updates, thoughts, reactions: Pregame

Dear lord … 24 years in a row I’ve been doing this. I wanted to do this from Los Angeles – never been in SoFi – but couldn’t make it out and had to bail at the last second. Considering the incessant whining coming from everyone I know who’s out there, I’m good.

Last year’s CFP National Championship: Georgia over Alabama

For the moment, all the rain and cold stalls my stumping for every major sporting event to be played in LA and San Diego – if it had the facilities for it – but Miami is still on.

Out of all the ESPN gimmicky gamecasts about to kick in, I’m looking for the one that shows this game being close.

Slightly off-topic … this is the game potentially built for all the different versions. Like the fantastic Manning thing on Monday Night Football, the alternative options are great when the game sucks. When the game is great, you want the announcers of record.

If you have Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit calling a College Football Playoff National Championship, I’m not sure why you need any of the 1,248 other options ESPN has to take away from its No. 1 team.

It’s not TCU’s fault. It has been a magnificent story, and it’s been a fantastic thing for college football just to get here. TCU earned it – there’s no such thing as a cheap run to the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

With all of that said, this would have been a very, very, very different day if it was Michigan vs Georgia. There’s just NO national buzz for this – I’m doing my best. Everyone is far more focused on the NFL Playoffs.

CFP National Championship Preview
CFP National Championship Top Prop Bets

Excuse me, Stewardess, I speak Nick Saban. The GameDay panel is trying to pump this game up, and Saban is doing his best to be nice about it – he’s all but saying TCU has no shot of handling the Georgia lines.

I agree.

Saban is fantastic on the GameDay pregame show. Even the hardest-core of coaches are great when they get to tell war stories and talk football. Get most of them them out of their lane, though, and there’s a big, big problem.

TCU has made me look ridiculous all year – and I certainly don’t need any help doing that. I’m still arguing that Michigan will win the Fiesta Bowl. With that said, I do think TCU will score, it’ll get the passing game going, and it’ll make this interesting …

For a half.

This isn’t the Georgia defense of last year – TCU will throw on it. The scores will be there, but eventually the Georgia D will generate the third down stops needed

Social media will go nuts – TCU might even be up going into the locker room. And then hell and the Georgia talent will come to breakfast – or to the all bacon-inspired spread traditionally served in the media hospitality area after the national title game.

All I want is a classic battle. I want America to be talking about this all day tomorrow, I want the College Football Playoff National Championship to be great again – last year’s was fine, even if it wasn’t all that well played – and …

Georgia by more than 13.5. It might take a little while to get there, but the last ten minutes will be about the Dawgs.

Let’s have some fun.

Georgia trolls TCU with ‘hypnoDAWG’ video during national title game beat down

Georgia’s social media team added insult to injury.

TCU has had a truly special season, but it ran out of magic against Georgia in Monday night’s College Football Playoff national championship game, losing in one of the more lopsided title games we’ve seen in a while.

The Horned Frogs’ season has featured a lot of chaos, and through it all, the team has used videos featuring the “hypnotoad” — a trippy and psychedelic frog originally from the cartoon Futurama — as a rallying point all year.

The clock struck midnight on TCU’s Cinderella run in this game, and during the second half of the championship blowout, the Bulldogs’ social media team took the opportunity to troll TCU’s beloved hypnotoad.

Meet the hyponodawg.

It’s one thing to embarrass TCU on the football field. Stealing its meme just adds insult to injury.

Stetson Bennett, Georgia off to scorching start against TCU

Georgia was off to a brilliant start against TCU in the CFP Championship Game

Georgia came into Monday’s CFP National Championship Game a huge favorite.

Stetson Bennett had the Dawgs sizzling in the first part of the game.

He accounted for a pair of touchdowns in the first 15 minutes as Georgia surged to a 17-7 lead.

The Horned Frogs didn’t fare any better early in the second quarter as Bennett led a long drive that concluded with the quarterback cruising into the end zone.

Bennett was untouched on both of his TD runs.

Georgia led 24-7 with 8:30 left in the second quarter.

Georgia QB Stetson Bennett IV shows off the jets to score first touchdown in national championship

Bennett can do it all for the Bulldogs.

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett IV isn’t exactly known for being a threat on the ground, but he used his legs to make TCU pay on the Bulldogs’ opening drive in the national championship on Monday night.

After UGA forced a three-and-out to start the game, Bennett capped off a five-play, 57-yard drive with a rushing touchdown from 21 yards out. After completing two passes for 33 yards to get into range, Bennett fooled the entire Horned Frogs’ defense with an option keeper and exploded through the hole, making a couple of moves to get into the end zone and give his team an early 7-0 lead.

The 25-year-old is playing in his final game as a collegiate player on Monday night, and he will look to lead Georgia to its second-straight national title. No team has gone back-to-back since Alabama did so in 2011 and 2012.

If he keeps making plays like this, the Bulldogs will be in good shape.

TCU vs. Georgia: Best bets and final score predictions for CFP national championship

FTW staff picks for the College Football Playoff national championship.

TCU is just one win away from completing one of the more improbable title runs in recent memory, but first the Horned Frogs have to go through the reigning champions Monday.

Georgia has been every bit as good as last year’s title team and has an opportunity to become the first repeat national champion since Alabama in 2011 and 2012. Vegas likes them to get it done, favoring the Bulldogs by double-digit points.

The last four national title games since the 2017 season have all ended with margins of 15 points or more. But if TCU and Georgia’s narrow CFP semifinal wins are any indication, this game could be more competitive. Below is a look at how the FTW staff thinks the game will go.

Georgia’s Uga mascot won’t be at CFP Championship Game against TCU

Georgia’s bulldog Uga won’t be at SoFi Stadium for the CFP Championship against TCU

The Georgia Bulldogs will be without their prized mascot Uga at the CFP National Championship Game on Monday at SoFi Stadium.

School spokespeople said there were several options for Uga to attend the game, but the cross-country distance and time it would take to travel made it difficult for the bulldog.

Uga will be home in Savannah, Ga.

Over the last 100 years, all 10 official bulldogs who have served as Uga, have been part of a line of pure white English bulldogs owned by the Frank W. “Sonny” Seiler family in Savannah.
