The Central Michigan Chippewas (1-1) and the No. 15 Marquette Golden Eagles (2-0) meet at Fiserv Forum Monday at 9 p.m. ET (FS1). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Central Michigan vs. Marquette odds as we make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Central Michigan endured a heartbreaking 73-72 home loss Thursday, with Stony Brook sealing the win on a layup in the final 3 seconds. The Chippewas didn’t cover as 5.5-point favorites, and the Over (138) hit. G Jakobi Heady led the team with 15 points and 8 rebounds.

Marquette advanced to 2-0 after defeating George Mason 82-63 as a 14-point favorite Friday while the Under (149.5) cashed. The Patriots led by 1 at halftime, but Marquette turned the game around by forcing 19 turnovers and closing with a dominant 16-2 run in the final 4½ minutes. F David Joplin led with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals.

Central Michigan at Marquette picks and predictions

Prediction

Marquette 90, Central Michigan 62

Moneyline

PASS.

While there are odds available at other books, you should obviously avoid betting Marquette because you’ll have to lay at least -4545. Look to the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

BET MARQUETTE-26.5 (-115).

Central Michigan kicked off its season with a win Nov. 4, but lost at home to Stony Brook Thursday after blowing a double-digit lead in the final 10 minutes. Now, it faces a tough road matchup against ranked Marquette.

The Golden Eagles were tested by George Mason Friday, but pulled away late. Marquette also defeated Stony Brook by 40 Nov. 4, while the Chippewas lost by 1. Despite the big spread, Marquette should take care of business and improve to 3-0 on the season.

Over/Under

BET OVER 149.5 (-115).

Marquette is averaging 92 points per game. It scored 102 points in its opener and just missed the Over in its second game by 5 points. It ranks in the top 25 nationally for 3-point attempts, averaging 33 per game.

Central Michigan is scoring 73.5 points per game and has gone Over in both games this season. After a tough test against George Mason, Marquette is set to come out strong and ready to dominate in Monday night’s matchup.

Northern Illinois at Central Michigan odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Northern Illinois at Central Michigan odds and lines, with college football expert picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Northern Illinois Huskies (4-4, 3-1 MAC) and Central Michigan Chippewas (4-4, 2-2) tangle Tuesday. Kickoff at Kelly/Shorts Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPNU). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Northern Illinois vs. Central Michigan odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Northern Illinois last played Oct. 21, defeating Eastern Michigan 20-13 as a -11.5 home favorite. A Huskies team that has allowed a combined 40 points over its last 3 games is allowing just 310.4 yards per contest (2nd in MAC). NIU has won 3 straight against the spread (ATS).

The Chippewas failed to cover as 5-point favorites in their last game, a 24-17 loss Oct. 21 at Ball State, and they have lost 4 in a row against the number. Central Michigan is undefeated at home this season (3-0).

Northern Illinois at Central Michigan
picks and predictions

Prediction

Northern Illinois 28, Central Michigan 17

Moneyline

Fair prices here, offering little-to-no leverage. PASS.

Against the spread

Northern Illinois is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games on the road. Central Michigan is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games overall and 1-7-1 ATS in its last 9 games at home.

NIU won 39-38 at CMU 2 years ago but then lost at home to the Chippewas last fall (35-22 Nov. 2). With the much better defense in this match-up, look for the Huskies to take care of business by a touchdown or more on Tuesday.

The Northern Illinois pass defense is a difference-maker in this match-up. On what will be a cold night in Michigan, expect a versatile (enough) Huskies offense to give the visitors a lead. Factors like NIU’s penchant for pickoffs (9 in 8 games), CMU’s porous red-zone defense and recent-game analytic scores are green check marks backing up a prognosis for a late-game 7-to-10-point cushion.

Several models’ win expectancy figures point to the Chippewas having a couple wins under their belt being way-less-than-wholly earned.

The line has steamed from 1.5 or 2.5 in some markets, so BACK THE HUSKIES -5.5 (-110) and perhaps get in quick and guard against a move to -6. And enough leverage has been lost that a partial-unit play may be in order.

Over/Under

No lean on the total as priced. PASS.

Central Michigan at Notre Dame odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Central Michigan at Notre Dame odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Central Michigan Chippewas (1-1) take on the No. 11 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (3-0) Saturday. Kickoff from Notre Dame Stadium is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET (Peacock). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Central Michigan vs. Notre Dame odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Central Michigan enters Saturday off a 45-42 victory against New Hampshire last week as a 7-point favorite and a 31-7 loss to Michigan State as a 14-point underdog in its season opener.

QB Bert Emanuel Jr. had a dismal performance through the air against New Hampshire, going 7-of-19 for 193 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs but that was nullified by his ground performance in which he carried the ball 21 times for 101 yards and 2 TDs. RB Myles Bailey also had 21 carries for 108 yards and a TD.

Notre Dame is seeking its 4th straight win to open the season after taking down NC State 45-24 last week, covering comfortably as a 7-point favorite. QB Sam Hartman tossed 4 TDs while RB Auric Estime rushed the ball 14 times for 134 yards with 2 TDs to lead the Fighting Irish to victory. The Notre Dame defense has played top-notch this season only allowing 30 combined points in its first 3 games.

Notre Dame is No. 11 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

  • Moneyline (ML): Off the board (OTB)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Central Michigan +34.5 (-110) | Notre Dame -34.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 51.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Central Michigan at Notre Dame picks and predictions

Prediction

Notre Dame 38, Central Michigan 7

Moneyline

The moneyline was OTB at the time of publication but would be too large to warrant consideration even if it was available.

Against the spread

SPRINKLE CENTRAL MICHIGAN +34.5 (-110).

Normally I stay away from a spread this large, but I think you can sprinkle on Central Michigan. Emanuel Jr. did not perform well in the air last week, but having a dual-threat QB can present issues for an opposing defense. Notre Dame should win this game with ease but do not be surprised if Central Michigan is able to put together a good drive here or there.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 51.5 (-105).

The Notre Dame defense has only allowed 30 total points this season and we can expect more of the same this week which will put most of the load to cover the points on the Fighting Irish offense. While they are expected to rout Central Michigan, if their defense holds strong, 51.5 points may be a lot to cover.

Central Michigan at Michigan State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Central Michigan at Michigan State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Central Michigan Chippewas and Michigan State Spartans meet Friday at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Central Michigan vs. Michigan State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Central Michigan enters this contest as a double-digit underdog coming off the heels of a disappointing 4-8 season.  CMU’s starting QB has not yet been announced as redshirt sophomore Jase Bauer and redshirt freshman Bert Emanuel Jr. have been competing for the job. Bauer was last year’s backup, but Emanuel’s dual-threat ability make him a strong contender to start.

The Spartans are looking for improvement after a 5-7 season. With last year’s starting QB Payton Thorne having transferred to Auburn, the Spartans have QB concerns. Redshirt junior Noah Kim and redshirt freshman Katin Houser have been fighting for the starting spot. Coach Mel Tucker said fans will have to wait until gametime on Friday to see who the starter will be.

The Chippewas and Spartans haven’t met since 2018 when the Spartans came away with the 31-20 victory. Michigan State leads the all-time series 8-3 and is on a 4-game winning streak vs. CMU.

Central Michigan at Michigan State picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan State 42, Central Michigan 24

Moneyline

PASS.

Michigan State should win this game but at (-650) the line is far too risky, bet on the spread and/or Over/Under instead.

Against the spread

LEAN MICHIGAN STATE -14.5 (-115).

I expect this game to be very competitive through 3 quarters, but the Spartans should be able to pull away a bit in the 4th. In the Spartans’ last 4 wins vs. CMU, only 1 of those wins was by less than 14 points. I expect CMU to give the Spartans problems, but Michigan State will show why they are a 2-TD favorite come the 4th quarter.

Over/Under

BET OVER 45.5 (-115).

In 5 of the 7 meetings between the schools since 2000, Over 45.5 has hit. Neither team makes their name with their defense, as is common in college football, and I don’t expect that to change here. With both teams starting new QB’s, expect this to be a very sloppy game.

Toledo at Central Michigan odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Toledo at Central Michigan odds and lines, with expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Toledo Rockets (23-6, 14-2 MAC) battle the Central Michigan Chippewas (10-19, 5-11) Tuesday. Tip from McGuirk Arena in Mount Pleasant is at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Toledo vs. Central Michigan odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Toledo covered as an 18.5-point favorite in an 84-59 victory at home over Central Michigan as the Under (150) connected on Feb. 4.

The Rockets rank 2nd in the nation with 85.2 points per game and should have enough firepower to overmatch the Chippewas. Central Michigan ranks 233rd with 71.8 points allowed per game and doesn’t have the offense to take advantage of a Toledo defense that ranks 322nd in scoring defense (76.3 points allowed per game).

Toledo at Central Michigan picks and predictions

Prediction

Toledo 80, Central Michigan 66

Moneyline

AVOID.

Central Michigan has been struggling all season while Toledo has taken its offense to an elite level. The Rockets (-1300) will win but you should never risk 13 times your potential return, even in a parlay.

Against the spread

BET CENTRAL MICHIGAN +15.5 (-115).

The previous meeting ended with Toledo winning 84-59 and covering as an 18.5-point favorite.

The Chippewas were overmatched then, and they will again be overmatched in this game as Toledo prepares for the conference tournament.

However, this is a large spread for a road team to be favored by in any matchup. Central Michigan will not keep things close and this will not be a thriller, but it will stay inside the 15.5 points as Toledo comes down to earth after scoring 101 points against Buffalo Saturday.

Over/Under

UNDER 147.5 (-110)

Central Michigan has gone Under the total in 4 straight games against a team with a winning record and has also gone Under in 7 of 8 games when the opponent has a win percentage above .600. Toledo has gone Under in 10 of 13 games following a game in which it scores 100 or more points.

Toledo can score, but Central Michigan has issues on offense. Despite Toledo allowing 76.2 points per game, it only allowed 59 in the previous meeting and a similar output could be seen tonight.

Toledo will not need to do much to win this contest and it will be saving itself for the conference tournament. A quick game, getting in and out, will be in store for this showdown.

Central Michigan at Kent State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Central Michigan at Kent State odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Central Michigan Chippewas (8-13, 3-5 MAC) and Kent State Golden Flashes (17-4, 7-1) meet Tuesday in Kent, Ohio. Tip-off from M.A.C. Center is at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Central Michigan vs. Kent State odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Central Michigan was a 1.5-point underdog when it beat Western Michigan 70-69 Saturday. The victory snapped a 3-game straight-up and against-the-spread losing skid.

Kent State is 11-1 since Dec. 10. The Golden Flashes have outscored opponents by an average of 10.7 points over those 12 games and a ball-hawking defense has helped KSU log a plus-4.7 average turnover margin over that span.

Kent State (-2000) will almost certainly come away with the victory, but you shouldn’t risk 20 times your potential return on the moneyline.

Against the spread

The Underdog is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings in this series.

Kent State’s comp games have not yielded many wins in the 12-point range, but CMU is not the most deserving of full-fledged support. Recent road clunkers don’t engender confidence on that side. PASS.

Over/Under

The Over is 7-0 in the Golden Flashes’ last 7 against under-.500 teams and is 9-1 across the last 10 meetings in this series.

This one sets up as a game with above-average pace, a few extra points in the transition game for KSU and a few extra 2nd-chance points for CMU.

Akron at Central Michigan odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Akron at Central Michigan odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Akron Zips (11-6, 3-1 MAC) battle the Central Michigan Chippewas (7-10, 2-2) Tuesday. Tip from McGuirk Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Akron vs. Central Michigan odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Central Michigan beat Buffalo 87-78 Saturday, covering as a 5-point home underdog. The Chippewas are 5-2 straight up (SU) at home and 8-7 against the spread (ATS) this season. They are 4-5 ATS over their last 9. Central Michigan’s strength is defense, ranking 93rd in the nation in opponents’ field goal percentage (41.5%).

Akron at Central Michigan picks and predictions

Prediction

Akron 71, Central Michigan 63

Moneyline

PASS.

There’s no value here on either team.

Against the spread

BET CENTRAL MICHIGAN +9.5 (-110).

Akron has been one of the worst covering teams in the MAC this season, posting a 5-10 ATS record. It is just 1-3 straight up on the road as well as 0-4 ATS away from home.

Central Michigan is 8-7 ATS this season and 3-2 ATS at home. It is also 5-2 straight up at home. The Chippewas have covered 3 of their last 5 as well. Both teams are 2-2 ATS in conference games.

Considering the Zips’ poor showing away from home, back CENTRAL MICHIGAN +9.5 (-110).

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 132.5 (-115).

While neither team has consistently hit the Over this season, they each have been better at it lately. Akron is 3-0 O/U in its last 3 games and put up 104 on Eastern Michigan in its last outing.

Central Michigan went Over against Buffalo, scoring 87 points. Combined, the teams are 4-4 O/U in conference play, and both average more than 68 points per game.

Ultimately, back the OVER 132.5 (-115).

Miami has not played a tough slate of offensive foes, and its defensive metrics are really shaky. MU depends a lot on 3-pointers, but Central Michigan defends the perimeter well enough and figures to have an edge in rebounding the basketball.

Will the Chippewas experience a hangover after the big win over Michigan? Maybe. However, the defensive edge is substantial enough to make the Chips a slight value.

BACK CENTRAL MICHIGAN (-140).

Against the spread

AVOID: Miami’s 3-point shooting could well chip away late at a 2- or 3-possession CMU lead.

Over/Under

Figure an above-average pace and some defensive inadequacies. But tempos have been slowing down for both, and a conference tilt may keep this in the mid-140s. PASS.

Central Michigan at Oklahoma State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Central Michigan at Oklahoma State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Central Michigan Chippewas and Oklahoma State Cowboys open their seasons at Boone Pickens Stadium Thursday (FS1). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Central Michigan at Oklahoma odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Chippewas head down to Stillwater, the scene of the most famous crime in CMU history. In the last meeting (Sept. 10, 2016), the Chips were mistakenly awarded an untimed down after a 4th-down intentional grounding call on OK State with zeroes on the clock. CMU hit a Hail Mary play with no time left to stun the Cowboys 30-27. What’s worse, Central Michigan was gifted the play by a MAC officiating crew.

None of the players from that game are playing on either side anymore, but you know coach Mike Gundy has a long memory and will want this one. The ranked Cowboys will have revenge on their minds.

Oklahoma State is ranked No. 11 in the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Central Michigan at Oklahoma State picks and predictions

Prediction

Oklahoma State 41, Central Michigan 17

Money line

Oklahoma State (-1600) isn’t going to get bitten by the upset bug again – it shouldn’t have lost that last meeting in 2016, either.

While Central Michigan (+800) has QB Daniel Richardson back, this team lost a pair of strong wideouts, including WR/KR Kalil Pimpleton. RB Lew Nichols III returns too, but CMU is likely to abandon the run game early after falling in a first-half hole.

Still, while the 11th-ranked Pokes should win, there is little value betting such a huge favorite.

AVOID.

Against the spread

OKLAHOMA STATE -21.5 (-112) is the lean here, but go lightly on such a high number. Central Michigan does have a handful of strong offensive players capable of big things.

While I don’t necessarily trust OSU QB Spencer Sanders, who tossed too many interceptions in 2021, I think the Cowboys should power past the Chippewas in the second half after a rusty first 30 minutes.

Over/Under

UNDER 58.5 (-112) is the lean in this opener, mostly based upon the trends.

The Under is 7-2 in CMU’s past 9 games on the road, while hitting in 4 of the previous 5 tries against Big 12 opponents.

For OK State, the Under is 5-2-1 in the previous 8 non-conference tilts and an impressive 7-1-1 in the past 9 in September.

Central Michigan at Ball State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Central Michigan at Ball State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Central Michigan Chippewas (6-4, 4-2 MAC) visit the Ball State Cardinals (5-5, 3-3) Wednesday at Scheumann Stadium in Muncie, Ind. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Central Michigan vs. Ball State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Chippewas have scored a total of 96 points across the past two wins while allowing 30 points in each outing. CMU has scored 38 or more points, while allowing at least 30 in each of the past three games. It’s no surprise that the Over has connected in three straight outings.

The Cardinals were tripped up 30-29 at Northern Illinois last week, and Ball State is just 1-2 SU/0-3 ATS across the past three outings while the Under has hit in three in a row, too.

Central Michigan at Ball State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Central Michigan 35, Ball State 29

Money line

CENTRAL MICHIGAN (-117) has a rather powerful offense, and they’re balanced, too. QB Daniel Richardson has three playmakers in the pass game with WRs Kalil Pimpleton, Dallas Dixon and JaCorey Sullivan. The triumvirate have combined for 18 touchdown catches, and TE Joel Wilson has added five scores. Ball State (-103) doesn’t have the horses to keep up for a full 60 minutes.

Against the spread

Playing CENTRAL MICHIGAN -1.5 (-107) will cost you just a little bit less, and all they need to do is win by two. I expect this to be a close game early, before the Chippewas pull away in the second half. CMU is 3-1 ATS across the past four games, and Ball State +1.5 (-115) enters on an 0-3 ATS run, too.

Over/Under

The OVER 58.5 (-108) is the best play on the board, and the Chippewas should take care of most of this total on their own. This is a team averaging 44.7 PPG in the previous three outings, all Over results, while allowing 33.0 PPG during the stretch.

Ball State hasn’t been as giving on defense, and the Under is 3-0 in the past three for the Cards. However, it has scored 60 total points in the past two games, and they’ll be able to hang with Central for at least a little while.
