There’s a youth movement at Jordan Brand when it comes to the signature athletes on their roster. Jayson Tatum is absolutely the most accomplished out of all of them.
So, naturally, you’d think that Jordan Brand would like to have done a pretty significant rollout of Tatum’s signature sneaker considering that. He’s been one of the best players on one of the best teams in the NBA for, at least, the last three seasons. Tatum is the Jordan Brand headliner at this point.
Unfortunately, Jordan Brand didn’t really get a chance to execute their full plan with Tatum because, well, the internet internetted. Leaked images of Tatum’s signature shoe that released before the shoe ever came out completely changed the perception of the sneaker.
We talk about all that and more on this episode of Special Delivery. Tap in.
The Cowboys’ edge rusher was caught wearing a Celtics’ jersey for Boston’s Game 1 against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference finals. Ordinarily, that would be fine. There’s nothing wrong with Parsons being a Celtics fan.
Except for…is he really a Celtics fan? The answer definitely seems to be no.
In fact, we just saw the man wearing a 76ers jersey last week when Boston was playing against Philadelphia in the East semifinals. And, on top of that, he’s rocking the jersey with a weird button-up underneath which only adds to his traitorous vibe right now.
And it isn’t just these two teams. The man has been a Mavericks fan and a Warriors fan all within the last few years. He says he’ll pick a team going into next year and stick with it, but how can we trust him?
Here’s how NBA Twitter reacted to Jayson Tatum’s 50-point performance against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Boston Celtics blew out the Philadelphia 76ers 112-88 in Game 7 and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the second year in a row.
Jayson Tatum was unstoppable, exploding for a historic 51 points — most points ever in a Game 7 — and 11 rebounds, leading the Celtics to victory. As expected, NBA Twitter exploded as well.
Mark Jones, man. This dude has got to be the most fun color commentator out there — especially when it comes to hoops.
The dude knows ball, obviously. He brings analysis to his color seat in ways that other color commentators don’t and that’s part of the reason he’s so good at what he does.
HE SAID THE CELTICS WERE SMOKING THAT PHILADELPHIA PACK. ON NATIONAL TELEVISION.
Everyone was both shocked and simultaneously thrilled that Jones dropped these bars on us. This man is really out here doing it for the culture. He explained his sauce a bit via Twitter, which was a pretty cool thing for him to do.
Thanks for the kind words @ClaireMPLS. I give viewers some insights into the players, personalize them. Talk team strategies, call out some plays in real time, document the game with seasoning.Colorful vocab.Maybe even quote Lil Durk or MoneyBagg Yo. I don’t do vanilla. The drone coverage was fun, but also kind of annoying.
If you think you saw a drone on Wednesday night during the 76ers-Celtics game, relax. You’re not tripping. You definitely did.
TNT decided to use a drone to cover the broadcast of the game. Periodically, in the broadcast, it was announced that it was their drone. But it was still pretty weird to see it flying around like that.
Warner Bros. Discovery Sports — which is the parent company of TNT — has been testing and incorporating drone technology into some of the company’s bigger broadcasts like the All-Star game and the men’s Final Four, according to The Morning Consult‘s Mark Burns.
Regarding TNT's use of drone technology for live coverage of Celtics-76ers, source familiar w/ situation says Warner Bros. Discovery Sports (TNT/TBS) has been testing in-arena drone use and recently incorporated the tech into NBA All Star along with the men's Final Four in…
This seems like something we’ll probably see periodically throughout the NBA playoffs. The drone is providing a unique coverage angle for fans to watch from.
So you can see why people were so annoyed with this thing. It’s quite literally in the way of their basketball. Fans seemed to be out on the drone just as quickly as it came in.
The Boston Celtics have eliminated the Atlanta Hawks to set up a semifinals matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Philadelphia 76ers finally know their Round 2 opponent. After sweeping the Brooklyn Nets on April 22, they had been waiting around in limbo to get an opponent for the Eastern Conference semifinals.
After squandering an opportunity at home in Game 5, the Boston Celtics responded and eliminated the Atlanta Hawks 128-120 on Thursday in Game 6. Boston received big games from the Jays as Jaylen Brown had 32 points and five rebounds while Jayson Tatum added 30 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists.
The Celtics will now advance to face the Sixers in Round 2 with Game 1 of this series set for Monday at the TD Garden in Boston. The Sixers will have their hands full with this talented Celtics team, but the time off should be very beneficial for them.
The Celtics win 128-120. Game 1. Sixers-Celtics on Monday in Boston. #Sixers
Of course, the status of Joel Embiid will be a big talking point over the next couple of days heading into this series. Coach Doc Rivers revealed on Thursday that the big fella was visiting with the doctors so an update on him should be released soon.
We’re finally here, y’all. After so many months of waiting and watching pure chaos ensue throughout the league’s standings, the playoffs are finally upon us.
We rarely see upsets in the NBA, but nothing is guaranteed this postseason. Things could get wild and it could happen fast.
We’ve got the NBA’s brightest stars from the last decade facing off against the biggest stars of the league’s present pretty early on. The Western Conference is an absolute mess — the bottom looks like it could be just as threatening as the top. And, to top it all off, the 3 best teams in the NBA are all in the Eastern Conference this year.
With all that being said, before things get started, we wanted to take a quick lay of the land. So here’s a power ranking of the teams left as we enter into the first round of the playoffs.
Stephen A. Smith doesn’t give the Philadelphia 76ers much of a chance to beat the Boston Celtics in the playoffs.
The Philadelphia 76ers have to keep their focus on the Brooklyn Nets as they begin their playoffs on Saturday with Game 1 of their first-round series.
However, considering the Sixers are the more talented and experienced team, this series with their division rivals seems likely to be an easy win for Philadelphia as long as it handles business.
The real challenge comes in the Eastern Conference semifinals, in which they will likely meet the Boston Celtics. The Celtics have eliminated the Sixers from the playoffs in the Joel Embiid era twice: 2018 and 2020. When looking ahead, that potential series appears to be when the Sixers will be challenged the most.
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith hopped on “First Take” to discuss Philadelphia’s chances against either the Celtics or the Milwaukee Bucks in the playoffs:
When I look at the Sixers, I think Boston has their number. I just don’t believe the Sixers would beat Boston. They’d have a chance against Milwaukee. I just watch their styles and I’m just saying of course, you’d have to have (Tyrese) Maxey and (James) Harden step up, but I remember when the Sixers were down and they came back and they beat Milwaukee on the road a few weeks ago. I’m just looking at them and I’m like, with Embiid against Giannis and what that would peel from Embiid to know that he’s got that encounter. That he has to deal with and he’ll rise to that occasion. I’m not saying they would beat Milwaukee. I would give them a better chance against Milwaukee than Boston. For some reason, it don’t matter what, Boston always seems to have the number. It took the 52 from Embiid for them to squeeze by Boston in the last game and Jaylen Brown didn’t play that game. I just look at it from that perspective and I just say, Boston has the number. I give them a much, much, much smaller chance against Boston than against Milwaukee.
It’s hard to disagree with Smith in this instance. Boston took three out of four with Philadelphia during the regular season and the Cs weren’t even healthy for all of them. The biggest example was on Feb. 8 when the Celtics entered down three starters, lost a fourth in the second quarter and still knocked off the Sixers that night.
It will be a tall task for the Sixers if that is the semifinals matchup in the Eastern Conference.
SlamBall is set to return this July. Credit Blake Griffin with the financial assist.
Boston Celtics veteran Blake Griffin has always had an eccentric life away from the basketball court. He’s dabbled in acting, in philanthropy, and in stand-up comedy since joining the NBA in 2009. Helping bring back SlamBall, however, might be some of Griffin’s most exciting work.
According to Front Office Sports, Griffin is among the initial investors resurrecting SlamBall this summer. A form of high-impact basketball played on trampolines, professional SlamBall was a cult favorite in the early 2000s. Though it aired for just two seasons between 2002 and 2003, SlamBall was a captivating and dazzling spectacle. And thanks in part to Griffin, it’s back.
A strong social media campaign helped launch the reboot, according to league co-founder Mason Gordon. He told FOS fans’ collective excitement for bringing SlamBall back informed the new venture. “This is a true Cinderella story — only with helmets, pads, and trampolines.” Gordon said.
