Will Jayson Tatum win MVP this season with the Boston Celtics?

The St. Louis native jumped out to an early lead in the narrative-based regular season award but has since seen the pressure turned up by the likes of Denver Nuggets star center Nikola Jokic, Dallas Mavericks wunderkind Luka Doncic, and even a handful of other would-be challengers.

Will Jayson Tatum win the NBA’s Kia Most Valuable Player award this season with the Boston Celtics? The St. Louis native jumped to an early lead in the narrative for the regular-season award, the others including Denver Nuggets star center Nikola Jokic and Dallas Mavericks wunderkind Luka Doncic, have surged in the race.

Other award races the Celtics have a solid shot at include Joe Mazzulla in the Coach of the Year race, Marcus Smart in the Defensive Player of the Year considerations, Brad Stevens in the Executive of the Year scrum and Malcolm Brogdon in the Sixth Man of the Year race. All have seen their fortunes change in recent weeks as has the probability of Jaylen Brown getting an All-NBA nod.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast got together with Ethan Fuller of the Boston Globe and Basketball News to talk over the state of the ball club and the various hardware races noted above.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say.

What moves around the margins might the Boston Celtics be eyeing ahead of the 2023 trade deadline?

The “Celtics Lab” podcast put together five targets Boston might target on the cheap who can help the team in places it could be stronger.

As the 2022-23 NBA season inches closer to the 2023 trade deadline in February, fans will begin to clamor for action on that front even among teams like the Boston Celtics after they have reclaimed the top record in the league.

And it is by no means guaranteed that the Celtics’ recent turbulence on the parquet is entirely behind them — nor that Boston is free from holes in their roster that could come back to bite them in the postseason. But based on the performance of the players they have thus far, their fairly pricy tax bill, and the chemistry behind it all, we shouldn’t expect a big move if any come at all.

But with that in mind, the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast put together five targets Boston might target on the cheap who can help the team in places it could be stronger.

Celtics Lab 161: Previewing Bucks-Cs on Christmas, the state of the East, NBA expansion and more with Jeff Zillgitt

The Celtics Lab podcast linked up with USA TODAY’s Jeff Zillgitt to talk over the Celtics’ recent play, our expectations for the big national TV game and beyond, and more.

The Boston Celtics are poised to play the Milwaukee Bucks in one of the marquee games of the 2022-23 NBA season on Christmas Day. Whether you believe it should be the case, many of the narratives surrounding contention odds, the MVP and even All-Star races may be affected by that contest.

But what can we really learn about the state of the East, the cases to take home season-long hardware, and how each team is playing now (and might play in the postseason) based on what we will see on Dec. 25? What should we be watching for. Which players should we focus our attention on as Boston faces Milwaukee and Giannis Antetokounmpo as well as other upcoming games?

To get a bead on the state of the Celtics and their peers in the East, the hosts of the Celtics Lab podcast linked up with USA TODAY’s Jeff Zillgitt to discuss the Celtics’ recent play, our expectations for the big national TV game and beyond, and more.

Celtics Lab 160: An NBA Festivus for the Rest of Us with Jam Packard

This episode, we reprise our (very recent) holiday tradition of complainign about the Celtics, the NBA, and life in general with help from ‘Anything is Poddable’s’ Jam Packard.

The holidays have arrived in earnest and with them an important tradition not only for the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast but the wider Boston Celtics and NBA community: a time to air our grievances as we host our second annual Festivus for the Rest of Us episode.

While we spend most of our time with our airing of annual irks directed at the Celtics and the league they play in, as is our tradition, we also make time to air our issues with the world at large. And this holiday season, we’ve recruited Kai Zen master and eternal sports optimist Jam Packard of The Athletic’s “Anything is Poddable” podcast to get into the teeth of what’s been getting under our skin this year.

Be sure to tune in for a veritable feast of our festive annoyances, and while we’re not entirely sure such a thing exists, we’re pretty sure you get the point.

We also cover the news of late, but given how Boston has been playing lately, we wouldn’t blame you if you confused that for grievances, too.

Everything you ever wanted to know about Robert Williams III (but weren’t afraid to ask)

This episode of the Celtics Lab podcast, we go DEEP into the mailbag with Timelord (and other) questions.

The Boston Celtics probably could have used starting center Robert Williams III in their recent road loss to the Golden State Warriors, but with the team prioritizing his long-term health over wins in the present (as it ought to), we will have to wait a little bit longer to see the Timelord back on the court for the Celtics.

Fans of the former Texas A&M standout are understandingly getting a bit antsy about his return, and they filled the mailbag for the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast with questions about when Williams might be back for Boston, how things might change when he is and plenty more.

Hosts Justin Quinn, Alex Goldberg and Justin Quinn did their best to answer them all, as well as several regarding the Louisiana native’s teammates among several Celtics and Celtics-adjacent inquiries.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear everything you ever wanted to know about Robert Williams III (but weren’t afraid to ask).

Celtics Lab mailbag overflow: Checking in on Derrick White, Luka Samanic, and what teams should blow it up

We picked a trio of non-Timelord questions relevant to a Celtics shooting guard’s marksmanship, a Maine Celtics affiliate player’s prospects, and an inquiry into what teams around the NBA ought to consider Bricking for Vic ™.

This week, the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast had an especially heavy mailbag, and to get to all of your excellent Boston Celtics and NBA questions, we decided to take a handful to an article format to get to more than the hosts Cameron Tabatabaie, Alex Goldberg, and Justin Quinn had time to cover on air given the superabundance of quality submissions we received, many of them focused on the return of Boston big man Robert Williams III.

We picked a trio of non-Timelord questions relevant to a Celtics shooting guard’s marksmanship, a Maine Celtics affiliate player’s prospects, and an inquiry into what teams around the NBA ought to consider Bricking for Vic ™.

So, without further ado, let’s jump into your questions — and our answers.

Celtics Lab 158: Robert Williams III dominates the mailbag ahead of his return

In this episode, we answer your mailbag questions (mostly about Timelord) and announce the giveaway winner.

The Boston Celtics are steamrolling opponents with a frequency that has begun to alarm the rest of the NBA to the delight of Celtics fans.

Even with an historically great offense anchored by Boston’s two star wings, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, this team has not yet finished coming together.

With sidelined Celtics center Robert Williams III poised to return to the team before Christmas, Boston could get even better, and that could send a ripple effect through the entire roster. How could the rotations change? Will the Celtics play the same way? Who will see their minutes shrink or grow?

On this episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast, your usual hosts held a mailbag to answer all of your questions about the Celtics’ hot start, the changes that might be coming, and more.

Alex Goldberg, Justin Quinn and Cameron Tabatabaie answered a host of such questions and announce the winner of the mailbag contest on this latest edition of the lab.

Celtics Lab 157: Making sense of royal NBA fans and World Cup play with Josh Coyne

In our first of our series of ‘Peer Review’ special episodes, we get into some Celtics-adjacent phenomena in the world of sport.

For many fans of the Boston Celtics, common British sports phenomena like having the Prince and Princess of Wales in attendance of your favorite team’s game or the political component of supporting one’s (association) football team can be somewhat mystifying. It was a very British-inflected week for Celtics fans with the royal family in attendance for Boston’s first tilt against the Miami Heat and the ongoing World Cup a point of interest for Boston fans and players both.

To that end, the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast thought it our duty to bring on Celtics Lab O.G. and resident British soccer fan and complicated-relationship-with-British-royals-haver Josh Coyne to make sense of it all for the first in a special episode series we’re calling Peer Review.

Host Justin Quinn and Coyne get into some of their (and the Celtics’) mixed emotions on having the royals in attendance last Wednesday, get up to speed on the good and the bad of the World Cup, and wrap things with an all-time Boston soccer squad.

TD Garden to host basketball-themed inauguration party for Healey, Driscoll team

Former hoopers Governor-elect Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor-elect Kim Driscoll will hold an inauguration celebration at Boston’s TD Garden.

Massachusetts Governor-elect Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor-elect Kim Driscoll will become the first all-women state executive team in US history when the two are inaugurated on January 5. The duo will celebrate with a basketball-inspired afterparty at Boston’s TD Garden, according to a recent press release.

The theme of the night will be “Moving the Ball Forward,” an homage to the role basketball plays for both Healey and Driscoll. Driscoll, the out-going mayor of Salem, MA, played and then later coached for the Salem State Vikings

Governor-elect Healey, meanwhile, served as the captain for her Harvard basketball team and played professionally in Europe for a short while. She talked about her ongoing connection to the sport and the Boston Celtics on a recent visit to the Celtics Lab Podcast.

Celtics Lab 156: Sorting out homestands, road trips and early cases for accolades with Bobby Krivitsky

And while you are tuning in, be sure to listen for how to be included in a giveaway we’re putting together this week to win some cool Boston Celtics swag.

At roughly the 2022-23 NBA season’s quarter point, the Boston Celtics stand alone with a 17-4 record and a two-game lead over the next-closest club (Milwaukee).

What can the play of a team with an historic offense and an improving defense tell us about how Boston will play for the rest of the season?

On this episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast, Sports Illustrated’s Bobby Krivitsky joins the pod to talk over the Celtics’ recent play, the schedule in the week and month ahead, and how we are feeling about the team’s play relative to several narratives surrounding some full-season accolades.

Join hosts Cameron Tabatabaie, Alex Goldberg and Justin Quinn as the trio joins Kravitsy in breaking down what has admittedly been among the most fun Boston rosters to watch in a very long time.
