Texas A&M loses Transfer Portal WR Caullin Lacy To Louisville

Former South Alabama WR Caullin Lacy has announced that he will transfer to Louisville instead of Texas A&M.

Texas A&M has struck out yet again in the transfer portal, as highly productive former South Alabama wide receiver Caullin Lacy will instead transfer to Louisville after many believed that the Aggies were the clear-cut favorite to land the veteran route runner.

Lacy is coming off his productive 2023 season, ranked 5th in the country in receptions (91) and yards with 1,316, including seven touchdown receptions. For reference, this season combined, Lacy recorded more yards than both of the Aggies’ leading receivers, Ainias Smith and Evan Stewart (1,309).

While the Aggies have landed a wide receiver in the portal with former Old Dominion WR Javon Harvey, adding one of the more dynamic playmakers to what should be an already talented and experienced wide receiver rotation would have been a luxury. However, with Ainias Smith headed to the 2024 NFL Draft, it looks like Harvey won’t have any competition to earn a spot in the lineup.

While wide receivers Evan Stewart, Moose Muhammad III, Noah Thomas, and Jahdae Walker are expected to return, replacing Smith’s snaps in the slot is why new head coach Mike Elko and his staff fielded offers to several Transfer Portal wide receivers outside of Lacy, including Ja’Mori Maclin, who instead committed to Kentucky.

Texas A&M still has a chance to land former Louisiana Tech WR Cyrus Allen, competing with fellow programs, including Mississippi State.

Former South Alabama WR Caullin Lacy is reportedly down to two programs

Former South. Alabama WR Caullin Lacy is reportedly down to Texas A&M and Louisville ahead of making his final decision.

Texas A&M is in need of wide receiver help after the departure of veteran Ainias Smith, who will enter the 2024 NFL Draft after five seasons in Aggieland. With new head coach Mike Elko at the helm, he brought former Kansas State OC Collin Klein to replace Bobby Petrino in 2024.

Looking to add more speed and versatility while attempting to replace Smith’s production, the transfer portal has presented the Aggies with several intriguing options, already landing one in former Old Dominion wide receiver Javon Harvey earlier this week.

However, while many of us pegged the former Missouri/North Texas wide receiver Ja’Mori Maclin as a sure thing, Maclin will instead transfer to Kentucky, joining former Texas A&M WR Raymond Cottrell. Instead, one of Elko’s first portal selections, South Alabama WR Caullin Lacy, visited College Station last weekend and reportedly narrowed his options to Texas A&M and Louisville.

Standing at 5-10 190 pounds, Lacy is a versatile and experienced receiver who could instantly replace any lost production concerning Smith and potentially Evan Stewart’s departures (barring any announcement) in 2024.

Former South Alabama WR set to visit Texas A&M this weekend

It has been reported that former South Alabama wide receiver Caullin Lacy is set to visit Texas A&M this coming weekend.

Amid all the transfer portal chaos surrounding Texas A&M Football’s transition into the Mike Elko coaching era, and while several key players have already announced their intentions to depart, Elko has already begun to utilize the portal to add depth and starting talent on both sides of the ball.

After star quarterback Conner Weigman announced his return next season, veteran wide receiver Ainias Smith, who does have one year of collegiate eligibility remaining, is poised to enter the 2024 NFL Draft in the coming weeks, while the status of sophomore WR Evan Stewart remains in the balance.

However, after the hiring of new OC Colin Klein, Jimbo Fisher’s influence on the offense is gone for good and in the hands of a highly competent play-caller who had immense success in just two years as Kansas State made him one of the hottest names on the open market.

So, in need of more playmakers in the receiving core, it has been reported that former South Alabama wide receiver Caullin Lacy, who has received an offer from Elko, is set to visit Texas A&M this weekend from Friday to Sunday, coming his productive 2023 season ranked 5th in the country in receptions (91) and yards with 1,316, including seven touchdown receptions.

Standing at 5-10 190 pounds, Lacy is a versatile and experienced receiver who could instantly replace any lost production concerning Smith and Stewart’s future with the program. Lacy has gained interest from Louisville, Oregon, Auburn, and Mississippi State.

Auburn extends offer to talented WR Caullin Lacy

Lacy led South Alabama in receiving this season by hauling in 91 passes for 1,316 yards and seven touchdowns.

No matter if it is from high school or the transfer portal, it is obvious that Auburn is looking to stock up on solid receivers for the 2024 season and beyond.

In addition to the four wide receiver commitments that they have received from the 2024 recruiting class, Auburn has offered four wide receivers who currently occupy the transfer portal with the most recent offer going to South Alabama receiver [autotag]Caullin Lacy[/autotag].

Lacy was South Alabama’s leading receiver this season after hauling in 91 catches for 1,316 yards and seven touchdowns. He built on last season’s success, where he caught 65 passes for 813 yards and six scores for the Jaguars.

Lacy has not followed the path of many others in the transfer portal, as he has not yet posted his offers on his X (formerly Twitter) account. However, he is receiving interest from Power Five programs such as Mississippi State, Texas A&M, and Oregon according to On3’s Pete Nakos ($).

So far, portal wide receivers who have earned an Auburn offer include Vanderbilt’s Will Sheppard, Purdue’s Deion Burks, and Georgia State’s Robert Lewis. The current transfer portal window remains open until Jan. 2.
