Freshman defensive lineman Carson Gentle recaps first practice at Tennessee.

Tennessee will open its 2024 football season on Aug. 31 versus Chattanooga. The Vols kicked off fall training camp on Wednesday with 31 days until facing the Moccasins.

Freshman defensive lineman Carson Gentle took part in his first practice with the Vols on Wednesday. He enrolled at Tennessee during the summer.

Gentle met with media and discussed his impressions of Tennessee’s first practice.

“It was very awesome,” he said. “It was a long time coming. I have been committed for a long time, so excited to get up here this summer. I have definitely been prepared for it. You know the offense is really fast-paced. I realized that today, but it was a great time.”

The 2023 early signing period is taking place Wednesday-Friday for Tennessee’s 2024 recruiting signing class.

The 2023 early signing period is Josh Heupel’s third as Tennessee’s head coach. He was hired as the Vols’ head coach in Jan. 2021.

Tennessee’s 2023 recruiting class ranked No. 10 nationally (247Sports Composite). The Vols’ first recruiting class under Heupel in 2022 ranked No. 17 nationally (247Sports Composite).

Carson Gentle signed with the Vols on Wednesday during the early signing period.

2024 defensive line prospect Carson Gentle announced his commitment to Tennessee.

The 6-foot-3, 241-pound Gentle is from McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

He has scholarship offers from the Vols, Harvard, Indiana, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Stanford and Virginia Tech.

Tennessee offered a scholarship to Gentle on June 7, 2021.

Gentle is the Vols’ second commitment for its 2024 recruiting class. 2024 edge rusher Jonathan Echols committed to Tennessee on July 4.
