Carolina Hurricanes at Tampa Bay Lightning odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Tampa Bay Lightning odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Carolina Hurricanes (3-3-0) wrap up a 6-game road trip against the Tampa Bay Lightning (2-2-2) Tuesday at Amalie Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Hurricanes vs. Lightning odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Hurricanes are limping to the end of a long trip to begin the season, going 1-3 in the past 4 games after opening the sojourn with a 6-5 shootout win in Los Angeles back on Oct. 14. Carolina has scored 28 goals through 6 games, or 4.7 goals per game (GPG), while allowing 30 goals, or 5.0 GPG. It’s no wonder the Over is a perfect 6-for-6 to date.

The Lightning were shocked 4-3 in OT on Saturday by the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs, blowing a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes. Tampa Bay, which is playing without G Andrei Vasilevskiy until at least late November as he recovers from back surgery, has allowed at least 3 goals in all 6 games to date.

Hurricanes at Lightning projected goalies

Frederik Andersen (2-0-0, 4.14 GAA, .855 SV%) vs. Jonas Johansson (2-1-2, 3.58 GAA, .902 SV%)

Andersen was knocked out of the game last Tuesday in San Jose due to an upper-body injury. He is projected to get the starting nod to wrap up the trip. If not, it will likely be Antti Raanta (1-1-0, 4.41 GAA, .818 SV%) getting the nod.

Johansson was peppered for 52 shots in the 4-3 OT collapse against the Leafs, making 48 saves. He has allowed at least 3 goals in all 5 games so far, while receiving 15 goals of support, or 3.0 GPG.

Hurricanes at Lightning picks and predictions

Prediction

Hurricanes 5, Lightning 3

Moneyline

The HURRICANES (-125) look to wrap up the long road trip on a positive note, and they should be able to find plenty of yawning nets against Johansson, who has been very giving early on.

Carolina was believed to have the best defense in the NHL, at least on paper, but so far there hasn’t been any sign of that. However, the Hurricanes were also believed to be lacking in offense, and there hasn’t been any sign of that, either.

Puck line/Against the spread

The HURRICANES -1.5 (+185) are worth a look for a chance to nearly double up, although go lightly. As a favorite, Carolina has cashed on the puck line just twice in 5 outings to date.

The Lightning +1.5 (-225) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return if you like the home side, and want some insurance. Tampa Bay is 2-1 on the puck line as an underdog, but this is just a little too expensive. Go with the visitors instead.

Over/Under

The OVER 6.5 (-110) is the lean, as Carolina is a perfect 6-for-6 so far this season.

The Hurricanes are scoring a lot, and allowing a lot more. And we mentioned above, the Lightning have allowed at least 3 goals in every game. This has the potential to see at least 8 or more goals combined.

Carolina Hurricanes at Tampa Bay Lightning odds, picks, and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Tampa Bay Lightning odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Carolina Hurricanes (44-15-7) wrap up a three-game road trip against the Tampa Bay Lightning (41-18-6) at Amalie Arena Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+/Hulu). Below, we look at the Hurricanes vs. Lightning odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Hurricanes exorcised plenty of demons with a 6-1 blowout win over the Washington Capitals Monday. Carolina had dropped the first three meetings this season against Washington prior to the victory.

The Lightning belted the New York Islanders 4-1 Sunday to wrap up a four-game road trip on a high note. That road trip included a 3-2 loss at Carolina last Tuesday. The Under is on a 9-0 run for Tampa Bay.

Hurricanes at Lightning odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Hurricanes +115 (bet $100 to win $115) | Lightning -140 (bet $140 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Hurricanes +1.5 (-250) | Lightning -1.5 (+180)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 5.5 (O: -120 | U: -105)

Hurricanes at Lightning projected goalies

Antti Raanta (11-4-3, 2.30 GAA, .919 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy (33-14-4, 2.36 GAA, .920 SV%, 2 SO)

Raanta will likely be between the pipes in the second end of a back-to-back set. He stopped 30 of the 32 shots he faced against the St. Louis Blues Saturday in a 7-2 road victory.

Vasilevskiy snapped a three-game losing skid with a 23-save effort in a 4-1 win against the Islanders Sunday. He has allowed 3 or fewer goals in each of his past six outings despite that he had dropped the three prior starts.

Hurricanes at Lightning odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Lightning 3, Hurricanes 1

Money line

The LIGHTNING (-140) are looking for a little revenge after a 3-2 setback in Carolina last Tuesday. The Hurricanes are on the end of a back-to-back set, and playing their third contest in a four-day stretch.

While Carolina is actually an impressive 31-14 in its last 45 when playing on no rest, this is a super tough stretch against three contenders. The Hurricanes are just 1-4 in their last five road games, too. Back the home side here.

Against the spread

The LIGHTNING -1.5 (+180) is actually worth a roll of the dice at this price.

They’re in a very good spot facing a tired Hurricanes team. While the Lightning have struggled to score goals lately, going for just 19 goals across their last nine outings, they’ll likely be catching the Canes using a backup goalie.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (-105) is worth a look here.

The Lightning and Hurricanes cashed the Under last week in Raleigh, totaling 5 goals. Tampa is on a 9-0 Under run. Carolina is averaging 5.3 goals per game across the past three — all Over results — but the Lightning should be able to keep the Canes down.

Carolina Hurricanes at Tampa Bay Lightning odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Tampa Bay Lightning odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Carolina Hurricanes (9-1-0) travel to meet the Tampa Bay Lightning (6-3-2) Tuesday at Amalie Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Hurricanes vs. Lightning odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Hurricanes are looking to rebound after suffering their first loss of the regular season at the Florida Panthers Saturday. Carolina was topped 5-2, tying a season-low for goals scored, and marking the first time it allowed more than 3 goals in a single game.

The Lightning haven’t lost in regulation across their last five games, as Tampa is rounding into form after a bit of a slow start by its standards. The Lightning won 5-3 last time out at the Ottawa Senators Saturday.

Hurricanes at Lightning projected goalies

Frederik Andersen (8-1-0, 1.83 GAA, .939 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy (5-2-2, 2.40 GAA, .919 SV%)

Andersen looks to bounce back after allowing a season-high 4 goals on 27 shots in Saturday’s loss at Florida. He allowed just 9 goals on 205 shots in seven starts in October, but he has allowed 7 goals in two November outings.

Vasilevskiy allowed 2 goals on 34 shots in a 2-1 overtime loss at the Toronto Maple Leafs Thursday. He hasn’t lost in regulation across his last five starts. Vasilevskiy was 3-3-1 with a 2.14 GAA and .933 SV% with 1 shutout in seven outings against Carolina in 2020-21.

Hurricanes at Lightning odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Lightning 4, Hurricanes 2

Money line

The LIGHTNING (-140) are moderate favorites over the Hurricanes, a team they have developed quite a rivalry thanks to several more meetings last season due to the COVID-19 adjusted schedule. The two teams then met in the postseason, with Tampa Bay winning the series.

The Hurricanes have won just 17 of their past 52 trips to Tampa. While Carolina started hot with nine wins in a row, it’ll experience something new here, a two-game losing streak.

Against the spread

The LIGHTNING -1.5 (+165) are worth playing lightly. The Hurricanes have just one loss, but it was by 3 goals last time out. Tampa Bay cashed on the puck line in three of its final five regular-season meetings with Carolina in 2020-21. Look for the proverbial Lightning to strike twice.

Over/Under

Lean to the OVER 5.5 (-120) despite the presence of Vasilevskiy. The Over is 4-1-1 in the previous six for the Lightning as favorites, while going 7-3 in the previous 10 for the Hurricanes on the road.

Despite those impressive trends, play this lightly, as it might take a late empty-net goal to get you across the finish line.

Carolina Hurricanes at Tampa Bay Lightning odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Tampa Bay Lightning odds, with NHL betting picks and prediction.

The Carolina Hurricanes (12-4-1) open a two-game set on the road against the Tampa Bay Lightning (11-4-1) Wednesday for a 5 p.m. ET puck drop at Amalie Arena. Below we analyze the Hurricanes-Lightning odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Hurricanes at Lightning: Odds, spread and lines

  • Money line: Hurricanes +120 (bet $100 to win $120) | Lightning -145 (bet $145 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Hurricanes +1.5 (-225) | Lightning -1.5 (+180)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Hurricanes at Lightning: Projected starting goalies

James Reimer (8-2-0, 3.08 GAA, .896 SV%) at Andrei Vasilevskiy (10-3-1, 2.01 GAA, .931 SV%)

Reimer lost to the Lightning 4-2 in Raleigh, N.C., Monday night, although he wasn’t bad. He allowed three goals on 31 shots at PNC Arena, but the offensive support just wasn’t there. He has allowed three or more goals in eight straight starts, but that’s been masked by the fact he has received 45 goals of support in his 10 starts, or 4.5 goals per game. The two goals the Hurricanes offense provided Monday was a season low, with four goals being the previous low (five times).

Vasilevskiy flashed his Vezina form Monday, and he finally received some help. In his previous two appearances against the Hurricanes, the defending champs did not light the lamp once. He has allowed two or fewer goals in six of his eight starts in February, and he has won each of those outings. When he allowed three or more goals, he has two losses.

Hurricanes at Lightning: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lightning 5, Hurricanes 3

Money line (ML)

The LIGHTNING (-145) finally were able to solve Carolina goaltending Monday with the 4-2 road win. Now, they’re back home on the Suncoast for two more games with the ‘Canes. Tampa Bay looks to carry over its momentum against Reimer, who is the only one of three Carolina goaltenders without a win or shutout against the Lightning this season.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The LIGHTNING -1.5 (+180) are worth a look on the puck line. They’re at home and expected to face Reimer again, who might be the shakiest of the three Carolina goalies this season despite his misleading record. The Lightning are 49-9 in their past 58 when scoring two or fewer goals in their previous outing. That doesn’t apply here as they scored four last time out, but the trend continued Monday as they were scoreless Saturday in a 4-0 defeat. File that away in your notes to use for later.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6 (-115) is a good bet. The Over is 4-1-1 across the past six games for the Lightning, while going 5-1-1 in the previous seven for the Hurricanes. The one Under result for both teams was their matchup Saturday, and the push was Monday. They know each other well, and should be able to generate more scoring chances in this one.

Tampa Bay Lightning at Carolina Hurricanes odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Tampa Bay Lightning at Carolina Hurricanes NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Tampa Bay Lightning (10-4-1) continue their two-game road set against the Carolina Hurricanes (12-3-1) Monday for a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C. Below we analyze the Lightning-Hurricanes NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Lightning at Hurricanes: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:01 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Lightning -125 (bet $125 to win $100) | Hurricanes +105 (bet $100 to win $105)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Lightning -1.5 (+220) | Hurricanes +1.5 (-275)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Lightning at Hurricanes: Projected starting goalies

Andrei Vasilevskiy (9-3-1, 2.01 GAA, .930 SV%) at James Reimer (8-1-0, 3.08 GAA, .896 SV%)

Vasilevskiy is projected to face the Hurricanes for a third time this season, and he’s hopeful he’ll get some offensive support. In his two previous starts vs. Carolina, he is 0-1-1 with a 2.01 GAA and .936 SV%, which is right in line with his overall season averages. However, he was on the short end of a 4-0 loss Saturday in Raleigh, and he was topped 1-0 in overtime Jan. 28.

Reimer heads into this on a four-game win streak, although he has allowed three or more goals in each of those outings. Unlike Vasilevskiy, Reimer has received a ton of offensive support as Carolina scored at least four goals in each of his nine starts to date. That includes an average of 5.8 goals per game over the past four outings. G Petr Mrazek earned the shutout vs. Tampa Bay Jan. 28, but he is out injured. G Alex Nedeljkovic posted the shutout Saturday, but he is not projected to start Monday. Can Reimer help Carolina goaltenders earn the shutout trifecta against the defending champs?

Lightning at Hurricanes: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lightning 4, Hurricanes 2

Money line (ML)

The LIGHTNING (-125) have been outscored 5-0 in their two losses to the Hurricanes this season. However, Reimer is projected to start this game, and he has been more than giving in the crease. Expect for the Lightning goal drought against the Hurricanes to end, and end in a big way.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The LIGHTNING -1.5 (+220) are an intriguing play at home with a chance to more than double up your initial wager. While they have lost both previous meetings to the Hurricanes, the odds are in Tampa Bay’s favor despite playing on road ice. Tampa Bay is terribly due for some offense against Carolina. Reimer has allowed three or more goals in each of his past four outings, so the Lightning will get theirs.

Over/Under (O/U)

The O/U line of 6 will be right on the number, so I’d be inclined to AVOID. If I had a lean, I’d go Over 6 (-115) as the Over has cashed in seven straight starts with Reimer in the crease for the ‘Canes.
