What’s new with the Seahawks since Week 6?

It hasn’t been long since the Cardinals and Seahawks last met, but Seattle has taken advantage of their last two games while the Cardinals have not.

The Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks met in Week 6 in what was a very disappointing result for Arizona in a 19-9 loss in Seattle.

Kyler Murray and the Cardinals offense failed to score a touchdown against what was, at that time, one of the worst defenses in the league. They scored a special teams touchdown on a blocked punt, but otherwise only managed three offensive points.

It was a disappointing result for a team that had the opportunity to get back to .500 prior to getting their All-Pro receiver back in DeAndre Hopkins the next week,

Since then, the Seahawks have not lost a game and come into Week 9 riding a three-game winning streak, their wins coming against the Los Angeles Chargers and New York Giants, both of which are respectable wins.

The Seahawks have the possible Offensive Rookie of the Year in running back Kenneth Walker III, who has taken over nicely for the injured Rashaad Penny.

In his last two games, Walker has 218 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. He’ll pose a tall task for a Cardinals team that was just gashed by Dalvin Cook and the Minnesota Vikings.

Since these two teams last met, the Cardinals are 1-1 and the Seahawks are 2-0. It’s a game the Cardinals cannot afford to lose, as doing so would spell doom for any remaining playoff hopes.

Seahawks’ defense has made tremendous turnaround

The Arizona Cardinals face a Seahawks defense that has gone from awful to great over the last three weeks.

When the Arizona Cardinals were preparing to take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6 on the road, it was considered a game for the offense to get right, as the Seahawks had been one of the worst units in the NFL.

They were dead last in the league in total defense and 31st in points allowed entering Week 6.

From Weeks 2-5, they allowed an average of 34.5 points per game and 429.8 yards per game. They were a bad defensive team.

That has changed. The 19-9 win over the Cardinals in Week 6 seems to have been the turning point.

In their last three games, the Seahawks now have allowed an average of 15 points per game and 289.7 yards per game.

They have forced two turnovers in each of their last six games and in seven of eight games this season.

This defensive turnaround has sparked a three-game winning streak and has the Seahawks sitting atop the NFC West at 5-3, the only team in the division with a winning record.

The Cardinals have gotten better offensively since the loss in Seattle, but they will have to be even better to have success to a Seattle defense that has suddenly gone from terrible to quite good.

LT D.J Humphries day-to-day with back injury

He missed Sunday’s 34-26 loss with a back injury. Kliff Kingsbury wouldn’t commit to his being available against the Seahawks.

The Arizona Cardinals lost to the Minnesota Vikings 34-26 on Sunday with three starting offensive linemen missing. Left guard Justin Pugh is out for the rest of the year after tearing his ACL. Center Rodney Hudson missed his fourth straight game with a knee injury and left tackle D.J. Humphries missed a game for the first time this season with a back injury he suffered at the end of the Cardinals’ Week 7 win over the New Orleans Saints.

Humphries’ status for the Cardinals’ Week 9 home game this week against the Seattle Seahawks is in question.

“We’ll see how it goes,” coach Kliff Kingsbury said Monday. “It’s day-to-day right now, and that’s all we can kind of go with.”

Kingsbury did say that Humphries would have played on Sunday had the team allowed him to.

“We want to be smart with that deal.”

Josh Jones started in Humphries’ place was did not play poorly.

The Cardinals’ first injury report of the week will come out following Wednesday’s practice.

C Rodney Hudson expected to be out again vs. Seahawks

The Cardinals anticipate Hudson missing a fifth consecutive game with a knee injury.

The Arizona Cardinals are not expected to have center Rodney Hudson for a fifth straight game. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury basically ruled him out for the Cardinals’ Week 9 home game against the Seattle Seahawks.

He has been out since Week 4 with a knee injury.

“I would say at least this week he’ll be out,” Kingsbury said Monday. “I’m not sure moving forward where that’ll be, but at some point in the future I expect him back.”

The Cardinals had Sean Harlow start in two of the games Hudson has missed and, more recently, Billy Price was the starter. Both played well in their first appearance and struggled in their second.

In the four games without Hudson in the lineup, the Cardinals have gone 1-3, winning only their Week 7 home game against the New Orleans Saints.

The Cardinals enter a three-game stretch playing all NFC West opponents.

Kingsbury suggested last week that Hudson could be back in a couple of weeks. Perhaps he will be able to go when the Cardinals travel to Los Angeles in Week 10 to face the Rams for the second time this season.

X-rays negative on Marquise Brown’s injured foot

The Cardinals could miss Brown in their Week 7 Thursday night game against the Saints.

The Arizona Cardinals suffered a 19-9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday and also potentially lost wide receiver Marquise Brown to a foot injury.

After the game, he was wearing a boot on his left foot. He told reporters, “X-rays are good, so that’s the positive.”

He said he would have to see how things feel on Monday.

He had his left foot tangled up with Seahawks cornerback Tariq Woolen when Woolen intercepted a pass from Kyler Murray. Brown had to be assisted off the field.

Since the Cardinals play in Week 7 on Thursday night, the injury casts doubt on Brown’s availability for this week.

Arizona will get back receiver DeAndre Hopkins back from his six-game PED suspension.

Unfortunately, the long-awaited pairing of Brown and Hopkins might not happen yet.

They get Hopkins back, but Brown might not be able to play.

OL Justin Pugh to have MRI on injured knee

It seems unlikely Pugh will be able to start on Thursday night against the Saints.

Arizona Cardinals starting left guard Justin Pugh has been dealing with injuries all season and has a new one. He left the first half of the Cardinals’ 19-9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks with a right knee injury and did not return.

After the game, he had a brace on his leg.

Pugh is scheduled to have an MRI on his leg, he said, to determine the severity of the injury.

The Cardinals next play on Thursday night, so it seems unlikely he will be able to play.

That means, unless the Cardinals designate offensive lineman Cody Ford from injured reserve and activate him this week without any full practice, it will be Max Garcia starting against the Saints.
