Florida football announces team captains for Missouri Tigers game

Here are the four Gators who will be wearing the cherished “C” on Saturday against Missouri.

The Florida football faces the Missouri Tigers on a cold midwestern Saturday night in the final game of the Southeastern Conference schedule for both programs in 2023.

On Friday morning, the Gators announced their four team captains for the upcoming gridiron grind. Defensive back Jaydon Hill, defensive lineman Tyreak Sapp, wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and offensive lineman Jake Slaughter all earned the honor in the penultimate game of the regular season.

The Tigers host the Gators on Nov. 18 at Faurot Field inside Memorial Stadium in Columbia, Missouri. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET and the game can be watched on ESPN.

Gators announce team captains for upcoming South Carolina matchup

Here are the four Gators who will wear the honorable “C” this weekend in Columbia.

Week 7’s matchup between Florida football and South Carolina Gamecocks is nearly here as both teams put the final touches on their rosters ahead of the Southeastern Conference East division matchup.

On Thursday, the Gators announced their four team captains for the upcoming road game. Defensive back Jaydon Hill, defensive lineman Tyreak Sapp, running back Trevor Etienne and offensive lineman Jake Slaughter all earned the honor in a must-win game for the Orange and Blue.

Hill has started at the STAR position in five and has appeared in all six of Florida’s games this season so far, with 12 total tackles and one for a loss, along with two pass breakups. Sapp started in all six games this season with nine total tackles along with 2.5 tackles for a loss, two force fumbles and a pass defended.

Etienne, who has emerged as the top running back but dealt with an upper-body injury last week, has tallied 358 yards rushing on 60 attempts with a pair of touchdowns; he also amassed stats in receiving and special teams.

Slaughter has done admirably well filling at center in for Kingsley Eguakun, who has dealt with injuries since the start of the season. He started at center in three games while appearing in all five, rating as the No. 13 center in the FBS entering Week 6.

Florida’s trip to Columbia, South Carolina, to face Spencer Rattler and the Gamecocks comes on Saturday, Oct. 14, and will be played inside William-Brice Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. EDT and the game can be watched on the SEC Network.

Florida football announces team captains for homecoming game

Check out the Florida Gators team captains for the homecoming game against Vanderbilt.

The Homecoming parade made its way up 13th Street and now the countdown to kickoff begins.

The Florida Gators (3-2, 1-1 SEC) will host the Vanderbilt Commodores (2-4, 0-2 SEC) and hope to redeem its road loss in Week 5 to the Kentucky.

Florida announced their team captains on Friday afternoon and this week’s list includes some key players who are set to make a significant impact on Saturday.

Headlining the list is transfer running back Montrell Johnson, who’s expected to carry a heavy load with sophomore Trevor Etienne listed as “questionable” on this week’s depth chart.

The running game hasn’t been as consistent since downing the Tennessee Volunteers in Week 3, but Johnson is ready to step into a leadership role.

“Me not having the production that I want, I’m just kind of taking my role as a leadership player,” Johnson said. “Just kind of lead the guys, I’ve been with the program a few years now, so I just be kinda like trying to lead those guys.”

Johnson is averaging 4.5 yards a carry and has racked up 261 yards on top of three rushing touchdowns and a single receiving touchdown.

Here’s how the rest of the captains look.

Junior punter Jeremy Crawshaw will join Johnson at midfield for the coin toss. Defensive lineman Cam Jackson and line backer Shemar James will also be leading the team on Saturday.

James has made himself at home in the Florida defense, wrecking plays while collecting 35 total tackles and four of them have been for a loss.

Jackson has been handy in the front seven as well, earning 17 total tackles with his season-high of six tackles against Tennessee.

Kickoff between the Florida Gators and Vanderbilt Commodores is set for 4 p.m. EDT and will broadcast on the SEC Network.

Oklahoma Sooners name captains for OU-Texas

The Sooners have announced who the captains will be for the Red River Showdown vs. Texas.

The Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns are preparing for the 119th edition of one of the greatest spectacles in all of college football. There’s nothing quite like the [autotag]Red River Rivalry[/autotag]. From the venue at the historic [autotag]Cotton Bowl[/autotag], to being surrounded by the Texas State Fair, to the stadium being split right at the 50-yard line.

In preparation for the game, the Sooners have announced its six captains. Those will be [autotag]Billy Bowman[/autotag], [autotag]Dillon Gabriel[/autotag], [autotag]Tyler Guyton[/autotag], [autotag]Jacob Lacey[/autotag], [autotag]McKade Mettauer[/autotag] and [autotag]Danny Stutsman[/autotag]. All have been lauded as leaders by the coaching staff since the offseason.

It’s also probably not a coincidence the group is mostly made up of players who play in the trenches. Whether that’s the offensive or defensive lines, three of the Sooners captains are from those groups.

This is a game historically won by the big guys up front. The running game is always a major factor in who comes out victorious.

But it’s also guys who have had big years. Stutsman leads the team in tackles, Bowman is tied for the team lead in interceptions, Gabriel has had the best season of his career, Mettauer and Guyton have been a big part of one of the nation’s best pass-blocking units, and Lacey has played a key role in a much-improved run defense for the Sooners in 2023.

With the captains now being set, it only means we are one step closer to game day.

Florida announces Week 4 captains against Charlotte

Check out which Gators were named captains for Florida’s Week 4 clash with the Charlotte 49ers.

The Florida Gators named wide receiver Caleb Douglas, cornerback Jalen Kimber, offensive guard Richie Leonard IV and linebacker Scooby Williams as captains for Saturday’s game against the Charlotte 49ers.

Leonard has been the team’s most effective pass blocker that’s played over 70 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. He’s allowed just one hurry through three games and has been the rock of this Florida offensive line so far.

Williams is another Gator who’s undergone an impressive one-year talent jump. At the beginning of the season, there were questions about where he would fit into the offense, but he’s quickly turned into a starting linebacker alongside Shemar James.

He’s is best when he’s rushing the quarterback. Williams has created seven pressures so far this season, which is second only to JACK Princely Umanmielen (11).

Caleb Douglas might not be the most talked about receiver on Florida’s roster — that’s either Ricky Pearsall or Eugene “Tre” Wilson III — but he’s probably the biggest deep threat Graham Mertz has at his disposal. The second-year pass catcher is the clear No. 2 and has hauled in six receptions on nine targets for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Last on the list is Jalen Kimber, a third-year corner who transferred from Georgia prior to the 2022 season. Kimber holds the best coverage rating on the team with an 81.6, and he’s played nearly 96 snaps over three games.

Kimber has allowed just one reception on four targets this year.

Saints, Titans name fan-favorites Steve Gleason and Tim Shaw as honorary team captains for their Week 1 game at the Caesars Superdome:

This is really cool: the New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans announced Friday that two of their franchises’ fan-favorite players will serve as honorary team captains before kickoff in Week 1, with Steve Gleason taking the field with New Orleans while Shaw arrives with Tennessee.

Both men have been diagnosed with ALS after their playing careers and endeavored to raise awareness of the disease while maintaining close relationships with the teams where they left their mark. Gleason is a common sight at the Caesars Superdome and the Titans keep a locker room stall in Shaw’s honor.

The Saints said in a statement that “the hope is for Sunday’s display of unity to bring support for those living with this disease and to encourage the continuing research needed in pursuit of a cure.”

The coin toss featuring both teams’ captains will occur just before kickoff at Noon CT on Sunday, Sept. 10. The game will be broadcast on CBS affiliates throughout the Southeast, so be sure to tune in.

Here are the six Patriots team captains for the 2023 season.

The New England Patriots named six team captains for the 2023 regular season ahead of Sunday’s opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

All of the captains from the 2022 season remained intact, except for former safety Devin McCourty, who retired from football in the offseason. That paved the way for tight end Hunter Henry to step in as the newest team captain.

Henry is one of the team’s most dependable offensive playmakers, and he has also turned into a more vocal leader in the locker room. So the title certainly fits the seven-year NFL veteran.

The Patriots will need great leadership when navigating through the most difficult NFL schedule this season. Here are the official team captains of the 2023 season.

Commanders announce captains for the 2023 season

Sam Howell and Jeremy Reaves are captains for the first time in their careers.

The Washington Commanders announced captains for the 2023 NFL season on Wednesday and two players received the honor for the first time.

Here’s a complete list of Washington’s 2023 captains:

  • WR Terry McLaurin
  • DT Jonathan Allen
  • CB Kendall Fuller
  • P Tress Way
  • S Jeremy Reaves

No surprises here. Howell and Reaves received the honor for the first time. Howell said, “It means a lot; it’s another thing I don’t take for granted.”

Reaves, who was named first-team All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl last season as a special-teams player, was humbled by the honor.

McLaurin, Allen and Way all joined Reaves in last season’s Pro Bowl, and each are multi-year captains and among the best in the NFL at their respective positions. Fuller is also a multi-year captain and enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career in 2022. He’s the steady veteran in what is a youthful secondary.

The Lions name their 2023 team captains

The Detroit Lions named their team captains for the 2023 season as voted on by the players

Two more days until the Detroit Lions kick off the 2023 NFL season against the Kansas City Chiefs, and we now know who will be the team’s captains for the upcoming year.

Head coach Dan Campbell revealed the captains at the onset of his pre-practice press conference on Tuesday, the final practice before the team plays the opener. The captains are voted on by the players.

There are three offensive captains:

  • QB Jared Goff
  • RT Penei Sewell
  • WR Amon-Ra St. Brown

On defense, LB Alex Anzalone and EDGE Charles Harris were bestowed the honor of the captaincy. LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin earned the nod for the special teams units.

“We’re fortunate to have a lot of guys that are really, I would call, leaders on this team, so we’re in a good spot, but congratulations to those guys,” Campbell said.

The Saints have named four first-time team captains for the 2023 season, including former AFC West rivals Derek Carr and Tyrann Mathieu:

This is really cool: the New Orleans Saints have named their seven team captains for the 2023 season, and four of them are first-timers (in New Orleans, anyway). The team has experienced a lot of turnover in recent years while endeavoring to add talent and remain competitive in the wide-open NFC, so it’s not too surprising to see new names in leadership positions.

Just three of last year’s six team captains are wearing the captain’s patch again this season, and the group has grown to seven players in total.

Two of these first-time Saints team captains are former rivals in the AFC West. Derek Carr is a captain on offense (replacing Jameis Winston), and his old foe Tyrann Mathieu is a new captain on defense (swapping out for Alvin Kamara within the group’s total count). And center Erik McCoy is a captain on offense for the first time, too (replacing Ryan Ramczyk). Long snapper Zach Wood will be wearing the captain patch on special teams (expanding the group from six to seven in total).
