The Montreal Canadiens (30-36-12) and New York Islanders (36-27-15) meet in a Thursday night affair on Long Island. The opening faceoff at UBS Arena is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Canadiens vs. Islanders odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Montreal, which leads this season series 2-0, has already been eliminated from playoff contention, but the Canadiens are coming off a season-high in goals and are 2-1-0 across their last 3 road tilts. On Tuesday, the Habs decimated the Philadelphia Flyers 9-3.

The Islanders head into Thursday’s game as the Metropolitan No. 3; they are looking to stay ahead of the Washington Capitals who are 2 points back in the Metro standings. New York downed the crosstown Rangers 4-2 Tuesday and have won 5 consecutive games.

Canadiens at Islanders projected goalies

Sam Montembeault (16-15-7, 3.10 GAA, .904 SV%) vs. Ilya Sorokin (24-19-11, 3.02 GAA, .908 SV%)

Montembeault started Tuesday’s game against Philadelphia and earned the win, stopping 33 of 36 shots on goal. The 27-year-old has held foes to 3 goals or less in 4 of his last 5 starts.

Sorokin last played a week ago, stopping 25-of-27 shots in an April 4 road start at the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Russian netminder owns a solid .917 SV% at home.

Canadiens at Islanders picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 5, Canadiens 2

Moneyline

The Isles have a solid probability of running their late-season win streak to 6, but better betting value can be found on the puck line. AVOID.

Puck line/Against the spread

New York’s last 3 wins have been by multiple scores.

Since Feb. 1, Sorokin has made 4 starts on 4-plus days’ rest. His save percentage in those starts is an aggregate .918.

Consider a partial-unit play on the ISLANDERS -1.5 (+115).

Over/Under

This series has seen the Over cash in 4 straight meetings. The Over has gone 4-1 in Montreal’s last 5 games.

And its the Canadiens’ 5-on-5 defense where this analysis begins. And justly so. The Habs have a 2.85 expected goals-against over the last 25 games (Natural Stat Trick, 5-on-5). Only 2 clubs have filed higher numbers over that span.

The Isles have a relatively low conversion rate on 5-on-5 high-danger looks over that same last-25 span. Look for a solid performance in a key game for them.

BACK THE OVER 6 (-110).

Montreal Canadiens at New York Islanders odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Montreal Canadiens at New York Islanders odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Montreal Canadiens (31-43-6) visit the New York Islanders (41-31-9) on Wednesday. Puck drop from UBS Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Canadiens vs. Islanders odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Canadiens were drilled 7-1 by the Toronto Maple Leafs on the road last time out on Saturday. Montreal has dropped 5 of the past 6 games while cashing the Over in the past 2 games.

The Islanders were tripped up 5-2 on the road by the Washington Capitals Monday, snapping a 2-game win streak. This is the final game for the Isles, and they holds a narrow 1-point lead over the Penguins for the final Wild Card in the Eastern Conference.

Canadiens at Islanders projected goalies

Sam Montembeault (16-17-3, 3.36 GAA, .904 SV%) vs. Ilya Sorokin (30-22-7, 2.35 GAA, .924 SV%, 6 SO)

Montembeault is expected to get the nod in the penultimate game for the Habs. He was smashed for 7 goals on 46 shots in Toronto last time out on Saturday and has won just once in the past 4 starts.

Montembeault allowed 3 goals on 30 shots in a 4-3 OT win over the Isles on Feb. 11 in his most recent meeting with New York. He also allowed just 2 goals on 38 shots in a hard-luck 2-1 loss on the Island back on Jan. 14.

Sorokin coughed up 3 goals on 23 shots in a 5-2 loss at Washington last time out Monday. Still, he is a solid 2-3-0 with a 2.24 GAA and .927 SV% with a shutout in 5 April starts.

Sorokin allowed just a single goal on 23 shots in a 2-1 win over the Habs on Jan. 14 in Elmont.

Canadiens at Islanders picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 5, Canadiens 2

Moneyline

The Islanders (-350) will cost you 3 1/2 times your potential return, and that’s way too expensive for a standalone wager or even as part of a parlay. There is no value in playing such heavy favorites.

PASS, and look to the puck line instead.

Puck line/Against the spread

The ISLANDERS -1.5 (-135) are a much better play on home ice against the Canadiens in this must-win game.

Prior to the 5-2 loss in D.C., the Isles had won and cashed on the puck line as a favorite in the previous 2 outings. There is a risk here, too, however, as the Isles are 0-2 against the spread vs. the Canadiens this season, both as a favorite.

Over/Under

The OVER 6 (+100) is the lean in this all-important game for the Islanders.

The thinking here is that the Islanders are going to be super aggressive on offense, and they won’t show any signs of letting up until they know the win is in the bag and a postseason spot locked up.

The Over is 5-2-1 in the past 8 games on the road for the Habs while going 9-3 in their past 12 games against Metropolitan Division teams.

Montreal Canadiens at New York Islanders odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Montreal Canadiens at New York Islanders odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Montreal Canadiens (9-33-7) travel to meet the New York Islanders (18-20-6) Sunday at UBS Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Canadiens vs. Islanders odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Canadiens are coming off a rare win against a contender as they topped the St. Louis Blues 3-2 in overtime Thursday behind G Sam Montembault. That snapped a 10-game losing skid dating back to Jan. 18, and an eight-game pointless streak.

The Islanders posted a 4-1 victory against the Boston Bruins Thursday as they snapped a three-game slide of their own. New York pushed against the total, but the Over is still 3-1-1 across its last five games overall.

Canadiens at Islanders projected goalies

Andrew Hammond (6-2-3, 2.44 GAA, .908 SV%, 3 SO – 2021-22 Iowa Wild – AHL) vs. Ilya Sorokin (15-11-5, 2.46 GAA, .921 SV%, 4 SO)

Hammond, acquired from the Minnesota Wild, is confirmed to make his first NHL start since the 2017-18 season when he was with the Colorado Avalanche. He was sharp at Iowa in the AHL, posting three shutouts in 11 appearances.

Sorokin slapped the brakes on a three-game losing streak, turning aside 26 of the 27 shots he faced in a win over the Boston Bruins Thursday. He had allowed 3 or more goals in four straight outings prior to the win.

Canadiens at Islanders odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Canadiens 3, Islanders 2

Money line

The CANADIENS (+210) are worth a look with a chance to more than double up your initial stake. It’s a tall order against the likes of a goalie like Sorokin, but if you’re going to get him, it’s now. The Islanders (-280) are just way too expensive anyway, especially for a team with just one win in its last four outings.

Against the spread

The CANADIENS +1.5 (-122) aren’t out of line if you don’t like them straight up and would like a little bit of insurance. They’re coming off a solid victory over the Blues, but this is a team with a single digit in the win column still. It makes sense not to jump right in on both feet for a money line bet. Still, that’s where there is better value against another struggling team.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (-122) is a good play in this matinee affair on The Island. An Under wager goes against the trends for the Habs and the trends in this series.

However, the Under is 17-6-3 in the last 26 at home for the Isles and 9-4-1 in their past 14 as favorites. The biggest concern is Hammond, who gets his first NHL start in several years. He could be great, and full of adrenaline, or he could fold like a tent.
