Copa America: Canada vs. Uruguay odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Canada vs. Uruguay odds and lines, with Copa America expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

Canada battles Uruguay in the third-place match of Copa America Saturday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Canada vs. Uruguay odds, and make our best soccer bets, picks and predictions.

Canada did better than many expected in Copa America, and its run might not be over. It lost to Argentina 2-0 in its opening match of the tournament, beat Peru 1-0 and drew Chile 0-0 in the group stage. Canada then took down Venezuela 1-1 (4-3 in penalty kicks) in a quarterfinal match before losing to Argentina 2-0 again, this time in a semifinal. Canada has an impressive roster that is captained by star Bayern Munich D Alphonso Davies. Canada is 48th in the FIFA World Rankings and will enter this match as a hefty underdog.

Uruguay had a wild finish to its semifinal match against Colombia, which won 1-0 despite it having a 1st-half red card. Uruguay, which is led by Liverpool F Darwin Nunez, won all 3 group stage games. It beat Panama 3-1 to start the tournament, took down Bolivia 5-0 and ended the USMNT knockout stage aspirations with a 1-0 victory. Uruguay then beat Brazil 0-0 (4-2 in penalty kicks) before losing to Colombia. Uruguay sits 14th in the World Rankings.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Canada vs. Uruguay picks and predictions

Prediction

Uruguay 2, Canada 1

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

Canada (+500) is better than this value gives it credit for. It did play a very solid 1st half against Argentina and has the pace and talent to keep up with a team like Uruguay (-190). However, it is the players not named Davies that are the problem. Canada has high-level talent but not the same caliber depth as Uruguay, and after 5 games in this tournament, that depth may be vital.

At these values, taking anything isn’t suggested. Uruguay is just too expensive for a match that doesn’t mean much, while Canada and a draw (+330) are too risky to suggest.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 2.5 (-142).

Given the nature of this match and the fact that both teams are already knocked out of being able to win it all, expect some more free-flowing offense. The last 2 third-place matches have topped 2.5 goals with the 2021 third-place match between Colombia and Peru finishing with 5.

Uruguay, before being held scoreless in both knockout stage games, tallied 9 goals in its 3 group stage matches. Canada has at least got on the board in 2 of its last 4 games. It did end with 9 shots against Argentina and 16 against Venezuela, so the opportunities should be created. It has competent attacks too like F Cyle Larin, who plays for Mallorca in La Liga.

The style of play should loosen up, and both teams have quality attacking players, especially Uruguay, which arguably should’ve netted multiple goals against Colombia. Considering how this match is expected to be played, TAKE OVER 2.5 (-142).

Copa America: Argentina vs. Canada odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Argentina vs. Canada odds and lines, with Copa America expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

Argentina battles Canada in the semifinal of Copa America Tuesday from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Argentina vs. Canada odds, and make our best soccer bets, picks and predictions.

Argentina, which won Copa America in 2021 and the World Cup in 2022, has been on an international tear behind F Lionel Messi and G Emiliano Martinez. Argentina hasn’t looked as impressive as expected, but it is still among the final 4 nations. It beat Canada 2-0, Chile 1-0 and Peru 2-0 in the group stage and defeated Ecuador in a quarterfinal 4-2 on penalty kicks after tying 1-1 in regulation.

Canada, which was just 1-1-2 in the 4 friendlies leading up to Copa America, has an impressive roster that is captained by star Bayern Munich D Alphonso Davies. It did make the 2022 World Cup but lost all 3 group stage games. As for Copa America, it lost to Argentina 2-0 in the tournament opener before topping Peru 1-0 and tying Chile 0-0. In the knockout stage, it beat Venezuela 4-3 on penalty kicks after tying 1-1.

Canada sits 48th on the FIFA World Rankings, while Argentina is No. 1.

Argentina vs. Canada picks and predictions

Prediction

Argentina 1, Canada 0

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

Canada (+1000) is capable of winning this match. It has top-notch quality like Davies, but surrounding him with capable talent has been the difficult part. Canada ended with 9 fewer shots and 7 fewer shots on frame than Argentina in the group stage match between these 2 teams.

While the draw is the only playable side, especially considering both teams did so in the quarterfinals, it still isn’t suggested here, and AVOIDING a moneyline play is the smart decision.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (-122).

Neither team has scored at will in this tournament, and it has generally been one with fewer goals.

Argentina has a top-tier keeper and other EPL players like Manchester United D Lisandro Martinez and Tottenham D Cristian Romero. Argentina has gone Under this total in all 4 games, holding a clean sheet in 3 of those 4.

Canada has gone Under in all 4 as well, going Under 1.5 goals in 2 of the 4. Considering these trends for both sides and the backline talent available for both squads, BET UNDER 2.5 (+122).

Copa America: Canada vs. Venezuela odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Canada vs. Venezuela odds and lines, with Copa America expert picks, predcitions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

Canada meets Venezuela Friday in a Copa America quarterfinal matchup. Kickoff from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Canada vs. Venezuela odds, and make our best soccer bets, picks and predictions.

Canada secured 2nd place in Group A despite a minus-1 goal differential, as it posted 4 points with a 1-1-1 mark in the group stage. It suffered a 2-0 loss to table-topper Argentina back on June 20, but it rebounded with a 1-0 victory over Peru, and a scoreless draw with Chile.

Canada managed a 35.6% possession time against Argentina with 2 shots on target and 4 corners, while posting a 51.0% possession time against Peru with 2 shots on target and just 1 corner. Peru also had a red card at 59′, playing a man down the rest of the way. That freed up Jonathan David to score the only goal at 74′.

In the final group stage match, it possessed the ball 57.4% of the time against Chile, but it had just 3 shots on target despite 8 corners. In the 3 matches so far, Canada has a total of 38 fouls, or 12.7 per match.

Venezuela surprisingly topped Group A by collecting 3 wins and 9 points, well clear of Ecuador and Mexico, which ended up with 4 points.

La Vinotinto benefited from a red card by Ecuador captain Enner Valencia at 22′ in the opening match, erasing a 1-0 deficit to score 2 late goals courtesy of hockey’s equivalent of a power play the rest of the way.

In the 2nd match, Venezuela stunned Mexico 1-0, as Salomon Rondon knocked home a penalty kick at 57′. El Tri had a 61.2% possession advantage with 18 shots, including 5 on target. Mexico also had 7 corners, but it was unable to get one past keeper Rafael Romo, who made 5 saves.

The win over Mexico secured a spot in the quarters, but Venezuela wasn’t taking its foot off the gas, as it pasted Jamaica 3-0 to secure the top spot. It had a 52.3% possession advantage, while taking 17 shots, including 3 on target. Romo could have left his net, as Jamaica had just a single shot on target.

Rondon and Eduard Bello led the team with 2 goals, while Jhonder Cadiz and Eric Ramirez each netted 1 goal apiece, in case you’re interested in potential Anytime Goal Scorer props.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Canada vs. Venezuela picks and predictions

Prediction

Venezuela 1, Canada 0

Moneyline (ML)

VENEZUELA (+145) has looked like a team of destiny in this Copa America, benefiting from undisciplined play from opponents at times, while forcing the issue and scoring timely goals at other times.

Regardless of whomever advances, Canada (+210) and La Vinotinto are each rather unlikely nations to be standing in the final 4 teams of this tournament.

Venezuela has a little more offensive firepower, however, and it should be able to negotiate its way through the Canadian defense for at least 1 goal.

Check out Pro Soccer Wire: For the American soccer fan, USA TODAY Sports Media Group’s website provides a fresh look at the beautiful game.

Over/Under (O/U)

Under 2.5 Goals (-174) is rather expensive, and there isn’t much value. However, playing the alternate line of UNDER 1.5 GOALS (+180) at plus-money is worth a roll of the dice.

Canada has scored just 1 single goal in this entire tournament, while keeping a clean sheet in its past 2 matches. This is a team which doesn’t score many goals, nor does it concede many.

Venezuela pounded Jamaica for 3 goals, but that was against a Reggae Boyz team which was already eliminated, playing rather disinterested. Canada will pose a much bigger challenge, especially defensively. The Under is the best play on the board.

Copa America: Argentina vs. Canada odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Argentina vs. Canada odds and lines, with Copa America expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

Argentina battles Canada in the 1st game of the highly-anticipated Copa America from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Argentina vs. Canada odds, and make our best soccer bets, picks and predictions.

Argentina has been hot over the last 4 years of international play, winning Copa America in 2021 with F Lionel Messi winning the best player award and GK Emiliano Martinez winning best goalkeeper. It then went on to win the World Cup in 2022 on the back of Messi. Playing with Inter Miami, Messi, who was already a global icon, has become a fan-favorite in the U.S. Argentina won all 4 friendlies leading up to Copa America, winning 3 of those 4 by multiple goals.

As for Canada, it has a highly impressive roster as well, led by star Bayern Munich D Alphonso Davies. Canada made the 2022 World Cup but lost all 3 Group F matches and didn’t qualify for the knockout stage. It played just 2 friendlies leading up to the tournament, losing 4-0 to Netherlands June 6 and drawing France 0-0 on June 9. Canada sits 48th on the FIFA Men’s World Rankings.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Argentina vs. Canada picks and predictions

Prediction

Argentina 2, Canada 0

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

Canada (+1000) has the high-end talent in Davies and Inter Milan F Tajon Buchanan. Its real problem is filling out the roster along those 2, and that has been the issue over the past few years. Against an ultra-talented side led by arguably the most centralizing and technical player in the world, Canada will stand little chance.

However, for the sake of a betting pick, Argentina at -360 has no value as it is far too expensive. The draw is the only playable side, but that’s not suggested here either. Ultimately, avoid the moneyline.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (+112).

Argentina is going to have one of its best keeper on the roster and has a slew of high-profile defenders like Man U’s Lisandro Martinez and Tottenham’s Cristian Romero. Both teams’ key issues will come in the middle of the pitch as Canada’s lack of talent may hurt its ability to possess and create many attacking chances.

Canada has gone Under this total in 2 of its last 3 games. Argentina has gone Under it in 5 of its last 8, holding a clean sheet in 5 of those. It should be able to repeat that type of performance.

Considering the lack of midfield strength and Canada’s lack of talent up top, take UNDER 2.5 (+112).

2023 Women’s World Cup: Canada vs. Australia odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Canada vs. Australia odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

In a Group B matchup, Canada (1-0-1 / W-L-D) and Australia (1-1-0) meet Monday in the 2023 Women’s World Cup at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium in Australia. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Canada vs. Australia odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Canada is tied atop the Group B table with Nigeria at 4 points. It played a scoreless draw against Nigeria in the opening match, and it racked up a 2-1 win over the Republic of Ireland Wednesday. A win gets Canada through to the Round of 16, while it can also draw and receive help to get through.

Australia has 3 points, and is very much alive for the Round of 16. It needs a win, however, and it plays in Melbourne in front of its throng of supporting fans. The Matildas topped Ireland 1-0 in the opening match, and they were stunned 3-2 by Nigeria Thursday.

The good news for Australia is that captain Sam Kerr (calf) appears to be fit after missing the 1st 2 games due to a calf injury.

  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: +110 | U: -155)

Canada vs. Australia picks and predictions

Prediction

Australia 1, Canada 1

Moneyline (ML)

Canada (+220) has the opportunity to go through, but Australia (+120) is obviously not going to make it easy for them. The Matildas are on their home pitch and they’ll be desperate trying to get the win, and get through to the next round.

DRAW (+225) is the best play on the board, and you can multiply your initial wager by more than 2 times in the process.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 2.5 GOALS (-155) is a little on the expensive side, but it’s a good play. Canada won’t be pressing too much, as it simply needs a draw to get through. Australia might have a little more desperation on the offensive end, especially if it finds itself behind late. But Under is the way to go, as goals should be at a premium in this all-important clash.

2023 Women’s World Cup: Canada vs. Ireland odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Canada vs. Ireland odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Canada (0 wins, 1 draw, 0 losses) battles Ireland (0-0-1) Wednesday in each nation’s 2nd 2023 Women’s World Cup group stage match. Kickoff from Perth Rectangular Stadium in Australia is set for 8 a.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Canada vs. Ireland odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Canada drew Nigeria 0-0 Thursday despite having 68% of the possession, 5 more shots and 2 more shots on target. Canada also 10 less fouls, finishing with 6 to Nigeria’s 16. Canada, No. 7 in the FIFA Women’s Rankings, is led by 40-year-old F Christine Sinclair, who had 323 caps and 190 goals as of April 11 of this year.

Ireland, No. 22 in the FIFA rankings, suffered a heart-breaking 1-0 loss to host Australia to kick off its group stage action. Ireland had 4 fewer shots and 1 fewer shot on target. It had just 37% of the possession. The only goal scored was a penalty, so Ireland’s defense held up well.

Canada vs. Ireland picks and predictions

Prediction

Canada 1, Ireland 0

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

I don’t love suggesting anything more than -150, so Canada (-160), despite being the better side, to win outright isn’t worth the risk. Ireland received a break with Australia F Sam Kerr missing the opener. Canada will have its full squad and should push Ireland’s defense to its limit.

Given neither team scored in its first game, the better high-juice wager is both teams to score: no (-100), but I also wouldn’t suggest that given the potential return.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET ALTERNATE UNDER 1.5 (+150).

It’s not just that neither team scored in its opener, it’s that neither team really had many opportunities.

Canada had 3 shots on target despite controlling 68% of the possession. It will likely repeat that ownership of the ball, but there’s no reason to think it can produce against an Ireland side that limited a top-tier Australia

However, Ireland had just 1 shot on target despite having 7 corners in its opener. In a game which it should again lack possession, Ireland likely won’t be able to generate much more offense.

Seven of the first 12 Women’s World Cup games finished Under 1.5 goals. TAKE UNDER 1.5 (+150).

2023 Women’s World Cup: Nigeria vs. Canada odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Nigeria vs. Canada odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Nigeria and Canada meet Thursday in Group B play at the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Kickoff from Melbourne Rectangular Stadium is set for 10:30 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Nigeria vs. Canada odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Nigeria is embroiled in controversy, as the team is in a dispute over failure to pay wages and reported broken promises. It’s possible that Nigeria could potentially boycott the match in protest, so that’s one thing to watch out for. Nigeria is led by F Asisat Oshoala, who won the Champions League trophy in 2022 while playing for Barcelona.

Canada is the Olympic champion from the most recent games in Tokyo in 2021 and is led by F Christine Sinclair. The team’s all-time leading scorer is making her 6th World Cup appearance. She has found the back of the net 190 times in 323 international appearances.

  • Both teams to score?: (Yes: +130 | No: -180)

Nigeria vs. Canada picks and predictions

Prediction

Canada 3, Nigeria 0

Moneyline (ML)

It will cost you more than 2 1/2 times your potential return betting Canada (-260) straight up on the 3-way line. That’s too much risk, although the defending Olympic champs should get out to a quick start against Nigeria.

There is just too much turmoil to consider rolling the dice on the Africans for the upset bid.

The best bet is to take NO (-180): BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE?, as it is likely Canada records the clean sheet. However, my personal limit for a standalone wager is -180, so just pass if this line gets more expensive.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is to the OVER 2.5 (-115). The Canadian side is experienced, especially with Sinclair at the helm. The Nigerians enter this tourney in shambles and it remains to be seen if they’ll have their hearts in it or if they even take the pitch.

We’ve seen on-pitch protests before, where a team has stood around, allowing the other team to move down and score. That shouldn’t be ruled out, as the Africans could potentially make a stand in protest. Over bettors would love to see it.

CONCACAF Gold Cup: USMNT vs. Canada odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s USMNT vs. Canada odds and lines, with expert soccer picks, predictions and best bets.

The USMNT battles Canada in the quarterfinal of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Kickoff from TQL Stadium in Cincinnati is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we preview BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the USMNT vs. Canada odds, and make our best soccer bets, picks and predictions.

The USMNT won the Nations League final on June 18 over Canada 2-0. It had 3 more shots and 3 more shots on goal while holding possession for just 36% of the match. This is a far different roster, but it is one that took down Trinidad and Tobago 6-0 and Saint Kitts and Nevis 6-0. It drew Jamaica in the Group Stage for Group A, yet still won the group.

Canada drew Guadeloupe 2-2 on June 27 and Guatemala 0-0 on July 1. It then took down Cuba 4-2. Canada finished 2nd in Group D as Guatemala won the group with 7 points. Canada ended the 3-game stage with 6 goals scored and 4 allowed. Canada won’t have several of its best players on display for this battle either.

USMNT vs. Canada picks and predictions

Prediction

USMNT 2, Canada 0

Moneyline (ML)

BET USMNT (-160).

The USMNT has been growing in strength since that opening draw with Jamaica. It won its Group Stage matches a combined 13-1 while Canada hasn’t truly shown that strength against low-tier competition. Drawing Guadeloupe and beating Cuba 4-2, despite only having 5 more shots, isn’t too impressive.

Most of Canada’s key forwards during the 2022 World Cup like F Alphonso Davies and F Cyle Larin aren’t on the Gold Cup roster. The USMNT has a deeper roster after that top tier of players.

Considering how both teams faired in the group stage, take USMNT (-160) despite the juice. The USMNT has won both of its previous games at TQL Stadium as well.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (-125).

Canada’s men’s national soccer team will be down several key forwards, but players like GK Dayne St. Clair, D Kamal Miller and D Richie Laryea were all at the World Cup and are also on the roster. The defensive aptitude should be there. Both of Cuba’s goals were on penalties while Guadeloupe scored 2 goals on 4 shots on target. Those were the only 4 Group Stage goals allowed.

The USMNT doesn’t have many of its key attackers from the World Cup either and didn’t have a great showing against the only competent side in its Group Stage games, scoring just 1 goal on Jamaica. It also allowed just 1 goal through 3 games, which shows its competent defense as well. Both sides should be able to limit opportunities.

With that in mind, take the UNDER 2.5 (-125).

Panama failed to qualify for the World Cup last year, but is League A in this competition. It did go 3-0-1 (1 draw) in the Nations League group stage, taking down Costa Rica twice. It has played 4 times in 2023, posting a 2-1-1 record. Panama lost 2-0 to World Cup champions Argentina on March 23.

Canada beat Curacao 4-0 and 2-0 in the group stage competition along with a split against Honduras, winning 4-1 and losing 2-1. It did qualify for the World Cup, but failed to get out of the group stage, although it did perform better than expected. Canada’s top offensive weapon is Bayern Munich star F Alphonso Davies.

Panama vs. Canada picks and predictions

Prediction

Canada 2, Panama 1

Moneyline (ML)

SPRINKLE CANADA (-155).

Betting the favorite here is the easy play, but there really isn’t any other option. Davies will be the most talented player for either nation, and Canada proved itself in both the World Cup and in the group stage action.

Panama did beat Canada in the CONCACAF WC qualifying action 1-0, but Davies didn’t play in the action. With its best roster against a side that didn’t perform as well in the group stage, back CANADA (-155).

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 2.5 (+115).

Canada will have its stars on display with Davies and ultra-fast F Tajon Buchanan. It went Over this total in 3 of 4 group stage games and will have a full, talented roster.

Panama went Over this in 1 of 4 group stage matches. It is coming off a 3-2 win on June 10 over Nicaragua, so the scoring ability is certainly there. It has allowed multiple goals in 2 of 4 matches this year.

Given the talent on display on both sides, take the OVER 2.5 (+115).

2022 World Cup: Belgium vs Canada odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Belgium vs Canada odds and lines, with World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

In a Group F opener for both sides, Canada takes on Belgium Wedenesday. Kickoff from Ahmad bin Ali Stadium is at 2 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Belgium vs. Canada odds, and make our best World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Belgium comes into this World Cup strong winning 4 games from 9 matches this calendar year, 2 of which came against teams competing in the World Cup. Those triumphs came against Wales and Poland (twice). Its most dominant performance of the year was a 6-1 victory over Poland in June in the UEFA Nations Cup.

Belgium’s squad stands out to a lot of people in this World Cup. Manchester City M Kevin De Bruyne is undoubtedly its best playmaker. However, Inter Milan F Romelu Lukaku — Belgium’s most dominant attacker — has just 1 goal for his club this season.

Canada has won 7 of 12 games in 2022, 3 of which were against countries in the World Cup (USA, Japan, and Qatar). Bayern Munich F Alphonso Davies is its most dangerous player and has 34 caps for his country and M Atiba Hutchinson is nearing his 100th appearance for Canada.

Prediction

Belgium 2, Canada 0

Moneyline (ML)

LEAN BELGIUM (-190).

Belgium is ranked 2nd in the FIFA Men’s Rankings, making it one of the strongest teams on paper coming into this World Cup. F Eden Hazard is one of Belgium’s strongest wingers and has 123 caps. His experience alone says a lot about how strong of a team it’s assembled.

Canada is ranked 41st in the world but should be an exciting competitor after beating several teams in this tournament. However, its 16.13% implied win percentage is indicative of how strong of a team it faces Wednesday.

Canada is mostly comprised of players that compete on MLS teams, while Belgium draws more from the EPL, La Liga, and Bundesliga. Also, Davies, their key player, may not be at 100% right now due to a hamstring injury, although he recently returned to training in full.

The talent for Belgium (-190) will be too much, but at this value, it is just a partial-unit play.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (+110).

Both teams have the capability to put the ball in the back of the net, but overall, Belgium has played a much stronger schedule and has more players that they can trust to score.

Belgium GK Thibaut Courtois is among the best in the world, and Belgium has gone Under this total in 4 of their last 4 competitions against World Cup sides.

Canada, on the other hand, has scored 20 goals in all competitions in their 2022 season. Unfortunately, they will not be able to compete or continue to score goals at will because they have not played a team of Belgium’s caliber this year.

Although Canada looks impressive on the scoresheet, Belgium just has too many weapons defensively to allow Canada to create many opportunities. Belgium has allowed just 4 goals in their last 5 competitions against WC teams.

Back the UNDER 2.5 (+110).
