Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig signs with Lil Wayne’s Young Money APAA Sports agency

Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig appears to be joining Travis Hunter at Lil Wayne’s sports agency

Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig were teammates for a few seasons on two different teams. They first played together at Jackson State before transferring to Colorado when the Buffs hired head coach Deion Sanders. Now, it appears the same sports agency will represent both as they prepare for the 2025 NFL draft.

David Rumsey of Front Office Sports (subscription required) reported on Silmon-Craig declaring himself eligible for the NFL draft on Sunday and noted that the safety had Lil Wayne’s Young Money APAA Sports agency logo at the top of his Instagram announcement. This comes on the heels of Hunter signing with the same agency at the end of December.

Young Money APAA Sports was founded in 2017 and has signed athletes such as new Duke Blue Devils quarterback Darian Mensah, New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and Colorado defensive lineman Jeheim Oatis (h/t Bleacher Report).

While we don’t know where Silmon-Craig will land in the NFL, we know who will represent him and that he will be missed in Boulder.

Colorado safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig declares for NFL draft

The heartbeat of Colorado’s defense has declared for the NFL draft

After two seasons with the Jackson State Tigers and another two with the Colorado Buffaloes, safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig has declared for the 2025 NFL draft.

The Birmingham, Alabama native played his final two high school football seasons at Trinity Christian School (Cedar Hill, Texas) under current Colorado linebackers coach Andre’ Hart. Silmon-Craig signed with Jackson State to play for head coach Deion Sanders and then followed Coach Prime to Boulder before the 2023 season.

During his two years at Colorado, Silmon-Craig accounted for 138 total tackles (12 for loss), five pass breakups, four interceptions and three sacks.

Often credited for his reliability and versatility in space and the run game, Silmon-Craig’s team-high 93 tackles were the most by a Buffs defensive back since Cha’pelle Brown had 96 in 2009. In September, he also tied for the second-longest fumble return in CU history, a 95-yard scoop and score against the UCF Knights.

Now, the vocal galvanizer of a much-improved Buffaloes defense is pursuing his NFL dreams.

Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig praises Colorado’s early enrollees

Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig is optimistic about Colorado’s future

Safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig had high praise for the recent Colorado football signees who practiced with the Buffs leading up to Saturday’s loss to BYU in the Alamo Bowl.

“It’s been wonderful seeing the guys come in with a hunger,” Silmon-Craig said following the Alamo Bowl. “They all caught on with how we get things done… These guys are very quiet, just trying to listen and learn. I’m going to be so happy for these guys coming in, they’re going to do some big things.”

Nine class of 2025 signees and one transfer quarterback joined the Buffs for the Alamo Bowl, with offensive guard Chauncey Gooden and defensive end Alexander McPherson making huge first impressions. Both of the Buffs’ new quarterbacks, Liberty Flames transfer Kaidon Salter and incoming freshman Julian Lewis, were among the others.

With Silmon-Craig looking to crack an NFL roster after a stellar collegiate career with Jackson State and Colorado, much will be asked of the Buffaloes’ newbies.

Coach Prime offers injury update on Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig ahead of Nebraska game

Coach Prime gave an update on injured safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig

Ahead of this weekend’s battle with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders provided an update on injured safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig.

Silmon-Craig played in only 10 defensive snaps during the Buffs’ season opener against North Dakota State before exiting with an injury. The exact nature of the injury is unknown, but the senior defensive back took a significant hit to his head early in the game, leading some to speculate he suffered a concussion.

Here’s what Coach Prime said on Tuesday when asked about Silmon-Craig’s status:

“He’s doing well,” Sanders said. “I think he may be cleared tomorrow. We’re praying so because he is one of the bonafide leaders of the defense, leaders on the team. His passion is second to none. He’s second to none the way he plays the game. When he goes down, it’s definitely a deficit in our secondary as well as in our defense. He is the communicator. He and Shilo (Sanders), but he is even more of a communicator than Shilo is.”

After exiting Thursday’s game in the first half, Silmon-Craig was replaced by Savion Riley. The former Vanderbilt and Miami transfer recorded seven total tackles, including one TFL.

Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig thriving as ‘lead by example’ veteran

Veteran safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig spoke with Buffaloes Wire about his leadership style

While it appeared natural, Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig’s passionate speech last week was an aberration from his typical mode of leadership.

In an interview with Buffaloes Wire during Colorado’s fall sports media day, the veteran safety shared that he prefers to let his work ethic do the talking. However, Silmon-Craig will become vocal when necessary, especially if he’s noticing a lack of passion.

“I’m more of a lead-by-example guy,” Silmon-Craig told Buffaloes Wire. “I’m gonna do it first and then I’m gonna tell you how to do it. I’ve played a lot of football and I’ve seen a lot of people say they’re leaders and put talk before action. People really respect it more if you’re a guy that (does it). When the new guys came in the spring, I didn’t say nothing for two weeks straight. I just worked my butt off every day so when I do say something, it’s respected. Like yesterday in the speech, I never really say nothing, so when I do talk people are listening.”

Silmon-Craig, who began his college football career playing for CU head coach Deion Sanders at Jackson State, added that compared to last year, the Buffs’ locker room is more conducive to players speaking their minds.

Check out the clip of Silmon-Craig’s stirring speech below:

Colorado’s secondary meshing well together early in fall camp

The chemistry within Colorado’s defensive secondary is apparent

For those worried that Colorado football’s roster turnover might make things difficult for players to get on the same page, Wednesday’s media scrum with the Buffs’ defensive backs should dispel those fears.

Incoming transfer defensive backs DJ McKinney and Preston Hodge were at the podium answering questions about fall camp when two veteran safeties decided it was time for a curveball. Shilo Sanders and Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig did their best reporter impersonations and started firing questions at their new teammates.

Despite some chuckles, McKinney and Hodge were able to keep their composure. Hodge answered a question from Sanders about how it feels having No. 21 playing over the top:

“It feels great, man,” Hodge said. “I can trust that inside route is going to be covered.”

This light-hearted exchange shows that Colorado’s DBs are meshing well together early in preseason camp.

Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig praises Colorado fans following final home game

Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig gave a special shoutout to Buff Nation

Although the Buffs only mustered wins in two of their six home games, Folsom Field was electric in its 100th season hosting Colorado football.

Every home game was sold out for the first time in program history and big names such as Lil Wayne, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Garnett, Terrell Owens, Kawhi Leonard and several others were in Boulder to watch Deion Sanders’ Buffs this fall.

However, it was ultimately the CU faithful that brought the most energy to Folsom Field this year. Following Colorado’s final home game, safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig gave a special shoutout to Buff Nation earlier this week:

Silmon-Craig, who spent the past two seasons playing for Coach Prime at Jackson State, has enjoyed a strong first season in Boulder and I’d expect him to come back for his senior year. Entering Week 12, his three interceptions are tied for the team lead.

What Deion Sanders, Colorado players are saying heading into Friday’s Washington State game

Here’s what Coach Prime and Co. are saying heading into Friday’s Washington State game

Despite a current four-game losing streak, this Colorado football team hasn’t lost much of its early-season confidence. Head coach Deion Sanders is seeing progress and with the amount of talent that the Buffs own, there are reasons to like Colorado’s chances at beating a struggling Washington State team on Friday.

After starting the season 4-0 with wins over Wisconsin and Oregon State, the Cougars are losers of six straight heading into their home finale.

Coach Prime, safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig, defensive lineman Amari McNeill, edge rusher Jordan Domineck and defensive ends coach Nick Williams all spoke to the media this week ahead of Friday’s game. Here’s what they had to say:

Two Buffs make PFF list of highest-graded returning Pac-12 safeties

Colorado owns two of the highest-graded returning safeties in the Pac-12, according to @PFF_College

According to Pro Football Focus, the Colorado Buffaloes have a pair of dynamic safeties ready to contribute entering the 2023 season. PFF’s college football Twitter page revealed its top 10 highest-graded returning (as in non-rookies) safeties in the Pac-12 and two Buffs made the list.

Checking in at No. 8 was Rodrick Ward, who transferred to the Buffs from Southern Utah in May. Ward was a first-team All-WAC player last season and will be in the mix to get playing time next year.

At No. 6 was a player who has all the makings of a leader for the Buffaloes, Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig. After starring at Jackson State, Silmon-Craig made the transition to Colorado where it looks like he will get a lot of time in the secondary this season.

Both Ward and Silmon-Craig are making the jump from the FCS level, but if their grades can carry over, Colorado’s secondary will become that much deeper.

Every CU Buffs player to earn their jersey number so far this spring

These players have all earned their jersey number so far this spring

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders does things a little unorthodox at times. None of his players started spring football with numbers on their jerseys. Rather, they have to earn them with their play and work ethic.

With the spring game coming up and spring practice underway, quite a few players have already earned jersey numbers.

A few of the big-name transfers have their numbers sealed, but a few other players are notably missing. It’s a different approach, but it will be interesting to see if it pays off.

Nonetheless, here’s a rundown of all the Buffs who have earned their numbers so far this spring:
