The LSU Tigers snapped a two-game losing streak on Tuesday with an 83-68 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores in Baton Rouge.

The LSU Tigers snapped a two-game losing streak on Tuesday with an 83-68 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores in Baton Rouge.

The Tigers controlled the game from the beginning, jumping out to a 9-0 lead before the first television timeout. LSU shot 59% from the field in the first half and went into halftime with a 46-24 lead.

Vanderbilt would attempt to make multiple runs in the second half, but the Tigers would answer each time, leading by as many as 24 points.

Late in the game, LSU became a little sloppy, allowing the Commodores to close the gap, but the game was already decided.

Several players stood out for the Tigers, as freshman guard Cameron Thomas once again led the team in scoring with 25 points. Thomas also finished with a career-high 10 rebounds, notching his first career double-double.

Junior forward Darius Days bounced back from his worst game of the season to score 13 points and pull down 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Trendon Watford became the third Tiger to finish with a double-double, as he scored 14 points and led the team with 13 rebounds.

LSU dominated Vanderbilt on the glass, holding a 51-29 edge.

If there was one area of concern for the LSU head coach Will Wade in this one, it was his team’s 16 turnovers.

The Tigers improve to 15-8 on the season, including a 10-6 record in SEC play.

LSU faces Missouri on Saturday in the regular-season finale.

LSU drops important SEC contest at Arkansas

The LSU Tigers fell to the No. 20 Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, 83-75, to fall to 14-8 on the season and 9-6 in SEC play.

It was a tale of two halves for the Tigers on Saturday as LSU looked poised to pick up a strong road win for its NCAA Tournament resume at halftime, leading 37-32.

The Tigers got the scoring started in the second half as freshman guard Cameron Thomas scored to give LSU a seven-point lead.

However, the Razorbacks slowly chipped away at LSU’s lead and took their first lead since the game’s opening basket, five minutes into the second half when Moses Moody made both of his free throw attempts.

The two teams went back and forth a bit over the next few minutes, with Arkansas maintaining a slight lead until the Razorbacks went on a 12-1 run over a two-minute period which broke the game open and gave them a 14-point lead with around nine minutes remaining.

Arkansas would lead by as many as 21 points in the second half with little resistance from LSU. The Tigers made a run in the closing minutes, but it was far too late, and the result was a second straight loss.

Thomas led the Tigers — and all scorers — with 25 points. Sophomore forward Trendon Watford scored 16 points and led LSU with seven rebounds.

Junior guard Javonte Smart scored 15 points. Junior forward Darius Days struggled on Saturday, going scoreless and missing all eight of his field-goal attempts. Days played just 18 minutes as he was limited due to foul trouble.

The Tigers have two games remaining in the regular season, as Vanderbilt comes to Baton Rouge on Tuesday and LSU travels to Missouri next Saturday.

LSU basketball struggles in loss at Georgia

After three straight double-digit wins, it appeared the LSU Tigers were set to finish the season strong on their way to an NCAA Tournament berth.

Unfortunately, on Tuesday, LSU looked flat and couldn’t overcome its first-half struggles and fell to the Georgia Bulldogs 91-78.

The loss drops the Tigers to 14-7 on the season and 9-5 in SEC play.

In the first half, LSU shot just 33% from the field, turned the ball over eight times, and went into halftime down 45-29.

The Tigers shot the basketball much better in the second half, but their defense couldn’t contain the Bulldogs. The Tigers made a run, even cutting Georgia’s lead to 12 points, but that was as close as they would get, and the ‘Dawgs pulled away.

LSU was flat-out beaten in every aspect. Georgia dominated the boards, shot the ball better, and played with a sense of urgency.

After the game, LSU head coach Will Wade summed up his team’s performance.

This was a game LSU needed, and Wade knows it. With just two scheduled games remaining in the regular season, both are now must-win for the Tigers.

The SEC is expected to make up LSU’s game with Florida, but it has not been officially announced as of this time.

Freshman guard Cameron Thomas led LSU with 21 points, while junior guard Javonte Smart chipped in with 19 points. Sophomore forward Trendon Watford scored 13 points and led the team with 10 rebounds.

LSU remains on the road with a trip to No. 20 Arkansas on Saturday.

LSU blows out Auburn, wins third in a row

The LSU Tigers cruised to a 104-80 win over the Auburn Tigers on Saturday in Baton Rouge.

The LSU Tigers cruised to a 104-80 win over the Auburn Tigers on Saturday in Baton Rouge.

In their first game in seven days, the Tigers jumped out on Auburn early, building a 12-point lead just eight minutes into the game. LSU led by as many as 19 points in the first half before going into halftime with a 50-34 lead.

The second half was more of the same as LSU led by 27 points at one point. The closest Auburn would get was 64-49, five minutes into the second half before LSU would go on another run.

It was another banner day for LSU freshman guard Cameron Thomas, who scored 27 points. It’s the 15th time this season Thomas has scored 20 points or more.

LSU forward Trendon Watford scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while Darius Days scored 17 points and Javonte Smart finished with 16 points.

As a team, LSU shot 53% from the field and made 11 of 22 attempts from 3-point range.

It was also another strong performance from LSU’s defense, as it held Auburn to just 37% shooting from the field and 25% from beyond the arc.

Auburn coach Bruce Pearl was clearly frustrated with his team’s effort.

“They scored 50 points (in the first half) on three assists,” Pearl said via Justin Ferguson of The Auburn Observer. “That means they lined us up and posted us up, and beat us 1-on-1. They dominated us. That’s why we’re frustrated and why we’re disappointed.”

With the win, LSU improves to 14-6 on the season and a 9-4 mark in SEC play.

LSU is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Georgia.

LSU picks up big win over No. 16 Tennessee

The LSU Tigers (13-6, 8-4) picked up a big victory on Saturday in Baton Rouge with a 78-65 win over No. 16 Tennessee (14-5, 7-5).

The LSU Tigers (13-6, 8-4) picked up a big victory on Saturday in Baton Rouge with a 78-65 win over No. 16 Tennessee (14-5, 7-5).

It was the most complete performance of the season for LSU at a time when the team needed a signature win.

Early in the game, with the score tied at 12, the Tigers went on a 16-4 run to open up a 12-point lead with around four minutes remaining in the first half.  Tennessee closed the lead to five points before the half and looked to continue that momentum in the second half.

The Volunteers closed LSU’s lead to just one point two minutes into the second half after Tennessee guard Santiago Vescovi connected on a 3-pointer.

That would be as close as UT would get for the remainder of the game.

The Tigers went on a 13-5 run and opened up a 17-point lead at one point in the second half en route to a relatively easy win.

Freshman guard Cam Thomas once again led the Tigers with 25 points. Junior guard Javonte Smart scored 20 points for LSU, while junior forward Darius scored 14 points and pulled down five rebounds.

As a team, the Tigers shot 52% from the field and were outstanding from the free-throw line, going 17 of 18.

LSU was also strong on the defensive end, holding a potent Tennessee offense to just 36% from the field.

LSU head coach Will Wade was proud of his team’s performance, per Glenn Guilbeau of the Daily Advertiser.

“Our guys were locked in,” Wade said. “It was the best game we’ve played this season.”

The Tigers are not scheduled to play again until next Saturday against Auburn. However, the SEC could reschedule one of the game’s LSU lost this season due to COVID-19.

Wade hinted at them playing this week in his postgame press conference.

“I think you’ll see us again Wednesday night,” Wade said.

He didn’t reveal a possible opponent.

For the second time in 15 days, the Alabama Crimson Tide dominated the LSU Tigers, 78-60, to sweep the season series on the hardwood.

For the second time in 15 days, the Alabama Crimson Tide dominated the LSU Tigers, 78-60, to sweep the season series on the hardwood.

Things looked promising early as LSU’s defense was stout in the early minutes, limiting the Crimson Tide’s damage from the outside. However, around the eight-minute mark of the first half, Alabama opened up a 10-point lead on LSU and never looked back.

After going into halftime with a six-point lead, the Tide jumped out to a 17-point lead early in the second half, powered by an 11-2 run in the first four minutes of the half.

LSU could never get the game back under 10 points for the remainder of the evening, leading to another relatively easy Alabama win.

The Tigers struggled offensively in their first game without forward Darius Days. LSU shot only 31 percent from the field and made just four 3-pointers for the game.

LSU’s best offense came from the charity stripe, where it outscored Alabama 16-6.

After breaking the SEC record for 3-pointers made in one game in the meeting 15 days ago, LSU did a good job defending Alabama from beyond the arc. The Crimson Tide shot just six of 24 from 3-point range.

LSU really missed Days on the boards, where Alabama outrebounded the Tigers, 51-35.

The loss drops LSU to 11-6 on the season and 6-4 in SEC play. The Crimson Tide need to get back on a winning streak to qualify for the NCAA Tournament after this disappointing two-week stretch.

The Tigers are back in action on Saturday when No. 22 Florida comes to Baton Rouge.

The LSU Tigers were set to pick up a big win on Saturday against the No. 10 Texas Tech Red Raiders in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge until a monumental collapse in the final 59 seconds led to a 76-71 loss.

LSU held a 71-64 lead with just over one minute remaining after Shareef O’Neal scored on a tip-in.

The Red Raiders came right down the floor, and guard Mac McClung nailed a 3-point shot to cut the lead to four points.

LSU junior forward Josh LeBlanc was fouled and missed the front end of a one-and-one, leading to Texas Tech missing a 3-point attempt. However, McClung grabbed the offensive rebound, stepped behind the 3-point line, and made it a one-point game with just 32 seconds remaining.

The Tigers called timeout, and forward Trendon Watford turned the ball over on the following play. Texas Tech forward Terrence Shannon scored to give the Red Raiders a 72-71 lead. Then, LSU freshman guard Cameron Thomas missed both of his final attempts, and the Tigers dropped an important game in heartbreaking fashion.

The Red Raiders scored the final 12 points of the game and all in less than a minute.

LSU led for a majority of this game, led by junior guard Javonte Smart who scored 29 points. Thomas scored 25 points but made just six of 20 attempts from the field.

The Tigers suffered a potentially devasting loss with around 10 minutes remaining when junior forward Darius Days injured his leg. Days had scored 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds at the time of his departure.

LSU falls to 11-5 on the season and returns to the court on Wednesday at No. 9 Alabama. The Crimson Tide blew out the Tigers two weeks ago in Baton Rouge and this now becomes the most important game of the season for head coach Will Wade and his team.

This game will feature a pair of high-flying guards who lead their respective teams in scoring. Mac McClung of Texas Tech is averaging 17 points per contest, while LSU freshman Cameron Thomas leads the SEC in scoring at 22 points per game.

LSU holds off Texas A&M after shaky second half

The LSU Tigers appeared to be well on their way to a blowout win over the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station on Tuesday night before

The LSU Tigers appeared to be well on their way to a blowout win over the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station on Tuesday night before escaping with a 78-66 victory.

The Tigers led 35-18 with around six minutes remaining in the first half. However, the Aggies slowly scrapped their way back to go into halftime down just 41-36.

In the first 10 minutes of the second half, Texas A&M was red-hot from 3-point range, even taking the lead by as many as six points. After a timeout, LSU returned to the court and forced A&M’s guards to drive to the basket instead of taking wide-open 3s.

That strategy worked. As LSU’s defense tightened up, the offense picked back up, and the Tigers ripped off an 18-0 run late in the second half to come away with a much-needed win.

When Texas A&M led 63-57 with around 10 minutes left, the Tigers would score 21 of the game’s final 24 points, including that 18-0 run to survive and improve to 11-4 and 6-3 in SEC play.

Freshman guard Cam Thomas was outstanding once again, leading the Tigers with 28 points. Junior guard Javonte Smart scored 19 points and dished out nine assists.

LSU forwards Trendon Watford and Darius Days combined to score 24 points and pull down 14 rebounds.
