Ohio State safety Cam Martinez announces transfer destination

Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley has to be giddy with excitement. The former Ohio State defensive coordinator just landed his second former Buckeye from the transfer portal, Cameron Martinez. He is the second OSU defensive back to join the Eagles, joining Ryan Turner, who announced his commitment to Boston College last week.

Martinez appeared in three games for Ohio State this year after appearing in all 13 games last season. He was a four-star prospect in the 2020 class and was recruited to play in Columbus by Hafley before he left for the East Coast.

He redshirted his freshman year, meaning Martinez will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Martinez transfers to an Eagle team that finished 6-6 and will face SMU in the Fenway Bowl. The safety should be challenge for playing time right away.

Report: Ohio State football to lose safety to transfer portal

Another Buckeye will look to continue his playing career elsewhere

It’s not out of the ordinary to see players move on through the transfer portal, and for the second time this “offseason,” Ohio State is seeing a player on the move.

According to Jeremy Birmingham of Rivals, Buckeye safety [autotag]Cam Martinez[/autotag] has entered the portal and look to finish his career elsewhere. The fourth-year player had his playing time decrease significantly from last year, as younger players jumped him on the depth chart.

Martinez played in only two games this season, against Youngstown State and Wisconsin, registering one tackle in each game. With the Ohio State secondary being so deep, this isn’t a huge loss.

It will be interesting to see if others from this group join Martinez in moving on, especially considering the talent the Buckeyes have entering the program from the 2024 recruiting class.
