Alabama transfer wide receiver commits to SEC program

An Alabama wide receiver will play in the SEC once again next season.

After announcing his intentions to enter the NCAA transfer portal earlier this month, Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Caleb Odom announced that he would be committing to the Ole Miss Rebels on Wednesday night.

Odom is the second Alabama wide receiver to make a transfer commitment so far this cycle joining Kobe Prentice, who previously committed to Baylor.

A true freshman, Odom appeared in 12 games for the Crimson Tide in 2024 where he was one of the top names in Alabama’s wide receiver room late in the year. For the season, Odom hauled in a total of seven receptions, which he turned into 65 yards.

Prior to Alabama, Odom was a four-star, Top 100 overall prospect in the Crimson Tide’s 2024 recruiting class out of Carrollton High School in Georgia. Odom was also considered as the nation’s No. 2 overall tight end in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Alabama wide receiver set to visit UNC football this week

Which Alabama football player is set for a visit with UNC this week?

In its first week under new head coach Bill Belichick, the UNC football program is already starting to capture attention from some of the country’s top transfer portal players.

North Carolina landed a commitment from Holy Cross center Christo Kelly on Monday, December 16. Four days earlier, former 5-star Texas A&M defensive lineman Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy announced his intention to visit Chapel Hill.

The Tar Heels will get a visit this week from Alabama transfer Caleb Odom, who was a Top-75 player in the 2024 recruiting class.

Odom didn’t play much for the Crimson Tide (9-3, 5-3) in 12 regular-season games during 2024, catching just seven passes for 65 yards. He was stuck deep down a depth chart that included Ryan Williams, arguably the best freshman wide receiver in the country.

With Gavin Blackwell and Kobe Paysour in the transfer portal, Nate McCollum exhausting his eligibility and J.J. Jones doing the same, UNC suddenly needs a bunch of help at wide receiver.

Odom played his high school football at Carrollton (Ga.) High School, catching 113 passes for 1,925 yards and 26 touchdowns. Odom’s best season came during junior year, when he set career-high with 1,121 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns.

We don’t know exactly when Odom will visit North Carolina, but he plans to sometime the week before Christmas. He is the first Alabama player to show interest in UNC – and just the second SEC player.

Odom isn’t the only high-profile target we expect to visit the Tar Heels. Players want to come play for Belichick, the greatest football coach of all-time.

Alabama reportedly loses freshman wide receiver to transfer portal

The freshman is reportedly set to enter the transfer portal.

Shortly after the program officially missed the College Football Playoff, the Alabama Crimson Tide received some more unfortunate news Sunday when it was reported that true freshman wide receiver Caleb Odom will be entering the transfer portal when it opens.

Odom was currently in his first season at Alabama, and up to this point in the season, has a combined seven receptions for 65 yards.

Prior to Alabama, Odom was the nation’s No. 53 overall prospect in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. A four-star prospect, Odom was also the nation’s No. 2 ranked tight end out of Carrollton High School in Georgia, but made the switch to wide receiver once at Alabama.

Odom is now the third wide receiver to announce their intentions to enter the transfer portal for the Crimson Tide this season, joining Kobe Prentice and most recently, Kendrick Law, who also announced his plans Sunday.

Alabama’s total for the season now sits at seven players in the portal.

Caleb Odom’s move from TE to WR has been smooth

Incoming freshman Caleb Odom was a four-star TE prospect, but has since swapped to being a WR at Alabama.

The new coaching staff will present plenty of changes on both sides of the ball, one of those changes includes taking former four-star tight end prospect Caleb Odom and turning him into a wide receiver.

Odom, a Georgia native, joined the Crimson Tide as a member of the 2024 recruiting class and is now working with new head coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff to prepare for the upcoming season.

At 6-foot-5, 215 pounds, Odom toughly has the size of a freshman tight end, but the coaching staff believes he would be best utilized as a wide receiver.

Fellow receiver Kendrick Law told media members today that Odom is elite at the position and is easily the biggest player at the position on the roster.

Additionally, Tide wide receiver coach JaMarcus Shephard had high praise for Odom, stating that he’s been like a sponge while learning the position. Shephard also noted that his size will play an important factor on the field while trying to come down with contested passes.

Predicting 5 early signees that will contribute as true freshmen

There is plenty of talent in Alabama’s 2024 recruiting class. Roll Tide Wire predicts five of Alabama’s early signees that will contribute as true freshmen next season.

Alabama seems always to have several players who  step up and make immediate impacts as true freshmen. In some cases, there are several that earn starting roles. In 2023, former five-stars Kadyn Proctor and Caleb Downs both started as true freshmen.

Alabama has one of the highest-ranked recruiting classes in the country for the 2024 recruiting class. There is talent to go around at every position. The Alabama coaching staff has done an excellent job of filling in holes at positions that will see turnover in the offseason.

Check out this throw from USC 4-star commit Julian Lewis

Julian Lewis has another incredible throw.

For USC fans, 2026 can’t come soon enough. Not with Julian Lewis waiting as the quarterback of the future for USC.

And Lewis showed on Friday night why he has the potential to be so special. He linked up on a bomb, an absolute dime of a throw to teammate Caleb Odom.

The go-route saw Odom (a four-star tight end and an Alabama commit) simply outpace the defensive backs and then Lewis threw his downfield target in-stride for a touchdown.

The 49-yard touchdown connection between Lewis and Odom saw the ball travel in the air for all but five yards. It was a showcase throw from Lewis, with just about everything one would want to see from a Power Five recruit.

It is easy to see why USC head coach Lincoln Riley made Lewis a priority recruit.

Not only does Lewis have a strong arm, but this is impressive placement from a high school quarterback, let alone a quarterback in the class of 2026. He is a four-star recruit according to 247Sports.

Lewis and Odom’s Carrollton (Carrollton, Georgia) were up big on Harrison (Kennesaw, Georgia) in the opening round of the playoffs. Carrollton came into this game 9-1 and winner of nine straight games.

Red-hot Alabama nabs another 4-star recruit, rises to No. 5 nationally

Over the weekend, they got a commitment from Carrollton (Ga.) four-star tight end Caleb Odom.

Don’t look now, but Alabama is back up among the elite recruiting programs for the class of 2024. After a slow start to the recruiting cycle, the Crimson Tide has risen fast in the national recruiting rankings over the last couple of weeks. Now they’re in the top-five teams in the nation.

Over the weekend, they got a commitment from another blue-chip recruit. This time it was Carrollton (Ga.) four-star tight end Caleb Odom.

Odom (6-foot-5, 215 pounds) had offers from 30 other programs, including Auburn, Florida, Miami and Texas A&M. Asked why he picked Alabama, Odom told Hayes Fawcett at On3 their history was a big factor.

“Honestly it was a place I saw myself being able to fit in at and being able to be developed easily. I built a great relationship with every coach on the staff, especially coach Cox. And the history of Bama is a big factor, the team is a dynasty and has a history of winning.”

Going by the 247Sports composite rankings, Odom is No. 4 among tight ends, No. 11 in the state of Georgia and No. 64 nationally in the class of 2024.

That makes 14 hard commits for Alabama’s class of 2024, which has risen to No. 5 in the nation.

5 reasons why Alabama fans should be excited about 2024 TE Caleb Odom committing to the Tide

ve reasons why Alabama fans should be eager for Alabama’s newest commit, TE Caleb Odom, to arrive on campus.

The future of Alabama’s tight end room got a little bit stronger on Saturday evening when 2024 tight end Caleb Odom announced his commitment to Alabama.

Odom plays for Carrollton High School in Carrollton, Georgia. He plays alongside Alabama target Julian “Juju” Lewis and Alabama commit Zykie Helton. Both of which are 2026 prospects.

As a junior, Odom hauled in 64 receptions for 1,121 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was an key contributor for the Trojans’ State Championship run last season.

Odom is a very dynamic playmaker that presents a lot of mismatches. He is listed at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds.

Roll Tide Wire goes in depth as to why Alabama fans should be excited about Odom’s commitment to the Tide.

4-star Carrollton TE Caleb Odom makes commitment

Four-star Carrollton standout Caleb Odom has decided where he plans to play college football

Four-star tight end Caleb Odom has committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Odom, a member of the class of 2024, plays high school football for Carrollton High School in Carrollton, Georgia. The four-star picked Alabama over Florida, Ole Miss, Miami, Georgia and Texas A&M.

Odom is ranked No. 64 in the class of 2024. Odom is the fourth-ranked tight end and the 11th-best recruit in Georgia, per 247Sports.

Nick Saban and Alabama football recruiting are rounding into form in the 2024 recruiting cycle. The Crimson Tide have 14 commitments in the class of 2024. Alabama has the No. 5 recruiting class in the country and the third-best class in the SEC. Only Georgia (No. 1) and Florida (No. 3) have higher-rated SEC football recruiting classes than Alabama.

The Carrollton standout plays basketball and has excellent athleticism. In fact, the four-star prospect has a dual scholarship offer from LSU for both football and basketball. Odom is a bright student: He recently recited 103 digits of the pi.

Odom is considered as both a wide receiver and tight end recruit. We’ll see what position he plays for Alabama in college.

Florida tight end target commits to Alabama instead

Florida has won plenty of recruiting battles this summer, but the Gators came up short in the race for four-star tight end Caleb Odom.

Despite a strong push from the Florida Gators over the summer, Carrollton  (Georgia) four-star tight end [autotag]Caleb Odom[/autotag] will sign with the Alabama Crimson Tide in the winter.

Odom announced his decision on Saturday, picking Alabama over Florida Florida, Miami, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. The Gators began recruiting him more as a receiver-tight end hybrid, which helped their chances, according to All Gators, but it wasn’t enough to lure him away from playing for Nick Saban and regularly competing for a national championship.

Fortunately, Florida landed a commitment from Amir Jackson in June, so the Gators are set at tight end. Jerrae Hawkins and Izaiah Williams are the two receivers under commitment. Missing out on a top-100 recruit in Odom isn’t ideal, but losing to Alabama in the recruiting world is bound to happen once in a while.

All Gators suggests that Florida wide receiver coach Billy Gonzalez could look to flip an elite X-receiver rather than grabbing a developmental piece.

The 2024 recruiting class is already up to 20 commitments, so adding random pieces is reckless at this point. UF is doing just fine recruiting pass catchers with the new staff.
