A win over Arizona State last weekend made USC (6-4) bowl eligible. The team will look to continue its winning ways on Saturday night at Cal. The Golden Bears (5-4) are still in the hunt to become bowl eligible and will do so with a win. Cal defeated USC at the Coliseum last season, 15-14, snapping a 13-year losing streak to the Trojans.

Clay Helton’s job security continues to be a hot topic in Southern California and throughout the country with a new athletic director at USC. The team helped Helton’s cause last weekend when USC survived a late comeback attempt by Arizona State to escape with a 31-26 victory. The first quarter saw a dominant performance by the USC passing attack, which scored 28 points. Quarterback Kedon Slovis was 15-for-17 for 297 yards and four touchdowns in one-quarter of play. However, the team scored just three points in the next three quarters. On defense, the Trojans got an added boost with the return of safety Talanoa Hufanga and defensive end Drake Jackson. They were apart of a defense that held ASU running back Eno Benjamin to 50 yards on 20 carries.

The Golden Bears are coming off a 33-20 victory over Washington State. The win snapped a four-game losing streak. That streak was especially surprising considering they started the season 4-0 and ranked in the Top 25. After suffering a shoulder injury that knocked him out for the middle portion of this season, Golden Bears quarterback Chase Garbers has been cleared to play. Backup quarterback Devon Modster went 16-for-24 for 230 yards and three touchdowns vs. Washington State. Running back Christopher Brown also had 95 yards rushing on 19 carries.
