WATCH: Jack Sawyer, C.J. Barnett talk Ohio State tradition, best Buckeyes from Ohio

Do you agree with their best OSU players from the state of Ohio? #GoBucks

The Ohio State football creative team has been blessing us all this offseason with a series on social media titled, “Tradition Talk.” It takes a current player and member of the football staff and sits them down to have a discussion about some of the best players and traditions in the history of Ohio State in a 1:1 intimate setting inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

The latest round of the series involved current Ohio State defensive end, Jack Sawyer, and Assistant Athletic Director for Player Development and External Affairs, C.J. Barnett. Barnett, of course, also had his time in a Buckeye uniform so can relate to the players.

The duo sat down to discuss their best four or five players that came from the state of Ohio as well as what some of the best traditions at Ohio State are, and what it means to play for the Buckeyes.

In case you didn’t get to watch the video, it only takes about ten minutes of your time and is interesting. So hit play and sit back and be perhaps a little surprised by who they mention as the best from the state to play in the scarlet and gray before they start to talk about the brotherhood and atmosphere of playing on the banks of the Olentangy.

We’ll bring more of these to you as Twitter gets lit up with more as we march on toward the start of fall camp and beyond, so check back often.

Ohio State hires C.J. Barnett as Director of Player Development

Ohio State has found its replacement for Ryan Stamper, hiring former player C.J. Barnett as the Director of Player Development.

Ohio State and Ryan Day have found their replacement for Ryan Stamper. Former OSU player C.J. Barnett will be taking on the same role, as first reported by Tony Gerdeman of Buckeye Scoop.

Stamper, whoĀ decided to join former Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer in Jacksonville, worked as the Director of Player Development in Columbus under Meyer and Day. His job was described as ā€œan administrative resource for players in all areas of their development.” It is assumed that the same role will continue with Barnett.

Barnett played safety for the Buckeyes from 2010-2013, and was a team captain his senior season. Prior to being hired by Day, he was most recently a Columbus Police officer, joining the force in July of 2018. He had a cup of coffee with the New York Giants in 2014 but never made an appearance in a regular-season game.

Now, Barnett — whose official job title is listed as Director, Player Development and External Affairs — will likely be responsible for all the holistic development of players in the program, including community outreach and “Real-Life Wednesdays” that have become a staple of the culture at Ohio State.
