Houston at BYU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Houston at BYU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Houston Cougars (4-7, 3-5 Big 12) and No. 20 BYU Cougars (9-2, 6-2) wrap up their regular seasons Saturday night in Provo, Utah. Kickoff from LaVell Edwards Stadium is scheduled for 10:15 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Houston vs. BYU odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Houston, eliminated from bowl eligibility, is playing for pride and potentially as a spoiler. The Cougars have lost 2 straight games. They lost 20-10 to Baylor at home Nov. 23, failing to cover as 7-point underdogs. The Under (51) cashed in.

BYU, No. 20 in the US LBM Coaches Pollis fighting for a berth in the Big 12 title game. The Cougars lost 28-23 — after rallying from down 21-0 — at Arizona State Nov. 23, failing to cover as 3.5-point underdogs. The Over (49.5) cashed in.

With a win, BYU can clinch a spot in the Big 12 title game with some help. It needs either 2 of the 3 other teams with 2 conference losses (Colorado, Iowa State, Arizona State) to lose, or for either Iowa State to lose to Kansas State, or Arizona State to lose to Arizona.

Houston at BYU picks and predictions

Prediction

BYU 27, Houston 13

Moneyline

Houston is only 1-4 on the road this season, while BYU (-550) has only 1 home loss and has only scored a combined 13 points over the last 2 games.

In its 7 losses, it has scored a max of 14 points.

BYU has averaged 19.3 points in its last 3 games, but had scored 34 or more in 6 straight before that.

Expect the offense to get on track and the defense to keep Houston from scoring much.

But -550 odds aren’t worth the action; you get much better value with the spread.

PASS.

Against the spread

Houston has covered the spread only once in a loss this season.

BYU has 5 wins by at least 13 points.

BET BYU -12.5 (-105).

Over/Under

The Under has hit in 10 of Houston’s 11 games this season, including 4 straight.

Meanwhile, BYU has had the Over cash in 8 of its 11 games and 6 of its last 7.

But it will be hard to hit the over with how Houston has been playing offensively.

BET UNDER 40.5 (-110).

BYU vs. Ole Miss odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s BYU vs. Ole Miss odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The BYU Cougars (5-0) battle the No. 24 Ole Miss Rebels (5-0) Thursday in the Rady Children’s Invitational. Tip from LionTree Arena in San Diego is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET (FS1). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the BYU vs. Ole Miss odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

BYU remained undefeated after demolishing Mississippi Valley State 87-43 Saturday but failing to cover as a 45-point home favorite as the Under (144) cashed. C Fousseyni Traore recorded a double-double, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs.

Ole Miss also is undefeated, recently routing Oral Roberts 100-68 Nov. 21, covering as a 21.5-point home favorite with the Over (149.5) hitting. G Sean Pedulla and G Matthew Murrell each scored a game-high 19 points in the win.

The other 2 teams in this holiday tournament are No. 12 Purdue and NC State. Thursday’s 2 winners will meet Friday in the Championship Game; likewise for the losers in Friday’s consolation game.

BYU vs. Ole Miss picks and predictions

Prediction

Ole Miss 74, BYU 70

Moneyline

BET OLE MISS (+155).

Ole Miss has scored 84 or more points in 3 of its 5 games, including in its last 2 outings. Defensively, the Rebels haven’t allowed more than 69 points in each of their 5 games.

They may be the underdogs here, but the Rebels have the offensive firepower to flourish against the Cougars, who have allowed 71 or more points in 2 of their last 4 games.

Against the spread

PASS.

The moneyline for Ole Miss has better value.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 151.5 (-110).

The best way for the Rebels to win Thursday is to shut down the Cougars’ offense. While BYU has scored 86 or more points in each of its game this season, the Cougars have not faced an opponent the caliber of the Rebels. In what will be a back-and-forth battle — with the highest O/U line in an Ole Miss game so far this season — UNDER 151.5 (-110) is a solid play.

Kansas at BYU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Kansas at BYU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Big 12 conference action continues this weekend as the Kansas Jayhawks (3-6, 2-4 Big 12) is on the road facing the No. 8 BYU Cougars (9-0, 6-0). Kickoff is Saturday at 10:15 p.m. ET from LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Kansas vs. BYU odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Kansas came off a bye last week to upset now-No. 25 Iowa State 45-36 at home as 2-point underdogs, rushing for 237 yards and getting 2 TD passes from QB Jalon Daniels. The Jayhawks have won 2 out of their last 3 after losing 5 in a row.

The Cougars, No. 8 in the US LBM Coaches Pollpulled off a thrilling comeback to beat rival Utah in the Holy War 22-21 on a last-second 44-yard Will Ferrin field goal after trailing by 10 points in the fourth quarter. They did not cover the 3-point spread as road favorites. Utah was flagged for a controversial defensive hold when BYU QB Jake Retzlaff was sacked on fourth down, which would have sealed the win for Utah. That kept the drive alive and led ultimately to the game-winning kick.

Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the BYU vs. UCF odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

BYU, No. 12 in the US LBM Coaches Pollsits atop the Big 12 but had a scare last week. Oklahoma State at BYU picks and predictions

Prediction

BYU 38, Oklahoma State 20

Moneyline

Oklahoma State is averaging 17.7 points per game in Big 12 play and has not scored more than 20 in a conference game, while BYU (-350) has scored at least 34 in every Big 12 matchup and in 5 of 6 games overall this season.

BYU is allowing only 16.3 points per game this season.

BYU should come away victorious, but with a price of -350 on the moneyline, it is not worth your time.

PASS.

The Arizona Wildcats (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) and BYU Cougars (5-0, 2-0) clash in a Saturday afternoon Big 12 showdown in Provo. Kickoff at LaVell Edwards Stadium will be at 4 p.m. ET (FOX). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around Arizona vs. BYU odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Wildcats dropped a 1-score game at home last Saturday, losing 28-22 to the Texas Tech Red Raiders as 5.5-point favorites. Arizona rallied from an  18-3 deficit to take a 19-18 lead with 3 minutes left to play, but  the Widcats were undone in part by a costly late fumble. They lost despite outgaining Texas Tech 422 yards to 333.

The Cougars, ranked No. 15 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, have already equaled their 2023 win total. The Cougars’ pass defense (171.0 yards per game, 24th FBS) has been a big part of the team’s ascendancy this fall. BYU was off last weekend.

Arizona at BYU picks and predictions

Prediction

BYU 24, Arizona 20

Moneyline

Brigham Young is 4-1 straight up across its last 5 games against Arizona.

BYU can be shaky against the run. Although that’s where UA gets much of its explosive plays on offense, the ground game is also not a success-rate plus for the Wildcats. Arizona is a pass-heavy team, and BYU is at least above average in success rate and avoiding big plays against the pass. And the Cougars defensive backs rate highly in the havoc department.

On that same side of the ball, give the Cougars another big green check mark in the area of red-zone play.

When BYU has the ball, it often gets pushed into 3rd-and-longer-than-what-you-would-want. But UA does not create much havoc, especially up front, and the Wildcats can be a bit loose in giving up yardage in chunks.

The price here on the ML is solid, and it gets the Brigham Young bettor free of a field-goal-close-result chicanery. And field goals could be impactful in this matchup.

TAKE THE COUGARS (-160).

Against the spread

This matchup has better value on the ML: PASS.

Over/Under

The last 6 UA-BYU games have cashed on the Under. The Under is 4-1 in Arizona’s last 5 games.

Both school’s have pace-of-play numbers well down toward the bottom of the FBS chart. Add in some BYU stinginess in the red zone, and some eat-the-clock run-game expectation on the Cougars side of the equation.

TAKE THE UNDER 49.5 (-115).

BYU has started the season strong and had a huge upset win at home last weekend, beating the No. 25 Kansas State Wildcats 38-9 as 7.5-point underdogs. They have allowed 12.8 points per game so far this season to rank 18th nationally.

Baylor is coming off a 38-31 overtime loss to the Colorado Buffaloes. The Bears failed to cover the 2.5-point spread as underdogs, although they had a touchdown lead until Colorado tied the score at the end of regulation with a Hail Mary pass.

BYU at Baylor picks and predictions

Prediction

BYU 27, Baylor 24

Moneyline

BYU’s defense has been tremendous so far. Allowing only 12.8 points per game and 269 yards per game, they forced 3 turnovers against Kansas State leading to the blowout upset win despite allowing 228 rushing yards in the game.

The Cougars have also scored 34 or more in 3 of their 4 games this season.

Baylor’s only game against a ranked opponent was a 23-12 road loss to the No. 10 Utah Utes.

BET BYU (+140).

Against the spread

BYU is 4-0 ATS this season and have won all 4 games outright. Baylor is 3-1 ATS and 2-0 ATS in games in which they are favored.

But expecting a BYU straight-up win as underdogs for plus odds, there is no need to bet the spread here.

PASS.

Over/Under

Baylor has had 2 games surpass 46 total points, including last week’s 38-31 loss. BYU has only had 1 game not reach 47 total points.

BET OVER 46.5 (-115).

Kansas State at BYU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Kansas State at BYU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Kansas State Wildcats (3-0, 1-0 Big 12) travel to meet the BYU Cougars (3-0, 0-0) Saturday at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Kansas State vs. BYU odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Wildcats are coming off an impressive win over Arizona in the conference opener Sept. 13, winning 31-7 as 7-point favorites. After falling behind 7-0 midway through the 1st quarter, K-State outpaced Arizona 31-0 for the final 52:34.

Kansas State was able to rack up 235 rushing yards and 391 total yards, while committing just 3 penalties in the win Friday. Dual-threat QB Avery Johnson completed 14 of 23 passes for 156 yards, 2 TDs and 0 INTs, while leading the team with 110 rushing yards on 17 attempts.

The defense deserves a tip of the cap, too, though. K-State was suffocating, allowing just 56 rushing yards while winning the turnover battle with a plus-1 ratio. While dynamic Arizona WR Tetairoa McMillan went for 11 catches and 138 yards, most of the damage was with the game well out of hand.

For BYU, it posted a 34-14 win at Wyoming last week to cover as a 9.5-point favorite, its 2nd straight win on the road. It won 18-15 at SMU Sept. 6 as a 12.5-point underdog in a truly impressive defensive effort. In fact, D has been the calling card of the Cougars, allowing just 14.0 PPG in 3 games.

Kansas State is No. 14 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, conducted by the American Football Coaches Association and USA TODAY Sports

Kansas State at BYU picks and predictions

Prediction

Kansas State 26, BYU 22

Moneyline

Kansas State (-275) would set you back nearly 3 times your potential return, which is way too much risk for not enough reward. Backing the Wildcats straight up, or as part of a multi-leg parlay, is not a recommended betting strategy in what should be a rather close game.

PASS.

Against the spread

BYU +6.5 (-105) is the play, but go a little on the light side. If this line gets up to a flat 7, or even better, +7.5, then go a little heavier.

BYU has surprised with a 3-0 ATS mark through 3 games, including an outright win as a double-digit underdog at SMU. This will be the 1st home game since Aug. 31 and 1st overall against an FBS opponent in Provo. The Cougars have done a great job shutting down the opposition’s run game, but this will be the biggest test yet against Kansas State -6.5 (-115) and Johnson.

Over/Under

UNDER 49.5 (-110) is worth a look, but go lightly.

Again, BYU has allowed 14.0 PPG through 3 games, and it is especially solid against the run game. But it shut down SMU’s aerial attack, too, and should be respected.

K-State has cashed low on the total in 2 of 3 games, hitting the Over in its only road game at Tulane. A lot of the damage from the Green Wave came in the pass game, going for 342 yards. That’s just not BYU’s game, as QB Jake Retzlaff is an OK passer with good legs to scramble. But he isn’t a huge downfield thrower, so the gains BYU makes will be in small increments.
