ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky loves Keon Coleman to the Bills (video)

ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky loves Keon Coleman to the #Bills (video):

ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky was on board with the Buffalo Bills’ decision to select Keon Coleman at the 2024 NFL draft.

The Bills used a second-round selection, their first of the event, on the receiver. It was the team’s biggest need heading into the draft, but aside from that, Orlovsky sees a comparison for Coleman in Buffalo’s offense.

Orlovsky noted that Coleman reminds him of former NFL wideout Brandon Marshall–Who ended up putting up 970 career catches, 12,351 yards and 83 touchdowns in his career.

Orlovsky’s comparison can be found below:

Bills’ Javon Solomon excited to learn from Von Miller: ‘He’s a legend’

#Bills’ Javon Solomon excited to learn from Von Miller: ‘He’s a legend’

As a fifth-round pick at the 2024 NFL draft out of FBS school Troy, pass rusher Javon Solomon will have plenty to work on in the pros.

The Buffalo Bills recognized that, too.

“I would say one of the things he’ll have to improve is the run defense,” general manager Brandon Beane said via video conference. “Kind of an undersized guy, but he’s got great arm length, measurables and you can’t deny his sack production and so we’re excited to get our hands on him.”

Solomon did play FBS ball but he put up numbers. He logged 18 tackles for loss with 56 total, and led the FBS in sacks last season with 16.

The hope for the Bills might be an in-house mentor helping bring him along: Von Miller.

And make no mistake, Solomon was very aware of where he was drafted as well. He said following the draft that he nearly cried realizing he will get a chance to be teammates with Miller.

“There’s nobody like the one and only Von Miller,” Soloman said. “He’s a legend. He’s a future Hall of Famer.”

Solomon’s full thoughts on Miller can be found in the clip below:

Bills’ Ray Davis has background story worth rooting for

#Bills’ Ray Davis has background story worth rooting for:

The Buffalo Bills will hope that Ray Davis adds an element to their rushing attack that helps raise the level of their offense in 2024.

Because of that, fans will naturally root for the guy. His background story helps, too.

Following the Bills’ decision to select him in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft, general manager Brandon Beane described Davis as a “dog” type of player in terms of the effort he gives.

“He’s a tough kid,” Beane said via video conference. “He plays the game violent.”

That aspect of Davis’ personality came to him at an early age.

Davis explained his upbringing through the foster care system. He began that journey at the age of 12 and said it makes your grow up much faster.

“I had to become a man at 12,” Davis said.

More from Davis can be found in the WROC-TV clip below:

What the Buffalo Bills are getting in Georgia center Sedrick Van Pran

Sedrick Van Pran brings toughness, reliability to the Buffalo Bills offensive front.

Despite an outstanding career at Georgia, Sedrick Van Pran-Granger didn’t hear his name called in the 2024 NFL draft until the fifth round.

The team he landed to, however, may be perfect spot for the former UGA center. The Buffalo Bills took Van Pran-Granger at pick No. 141 and immediately added some toughness and reliability to their offensive front.

The anchor of Georgia’s stout offensive front over the last three seasons, Van Pran-Granger will go down as one of the best centers in UGA history. The New Orleans native logged 44 starts during his career in Athens and walked away with two national championships under is belt.

Van Pran ended his Georgia career with his best season to date, earning ESPN and Sports Illustrated All-America first-team honors while helping the Bulldogs to an outstanding season on offense and 13-1 record. UGA finished fifth in the country in total offense and Van Pran was named first-team All-SEC and received the 2023 SEC Jacobs Blocking Trophy, given to the conference’s best offensive lineman.

Van Pran-Granger seems like a perfect fit for the Bills, led by star quarterback Josh Allen. Toughness is a valued trait for that offense in the cold conditions of New York, and Van Pran-Granger has that characteristic in full. The 6-foot-4, 298-pound mauler also has some useful experience in blocking for former Georgia tailback James Cook. The pair won a national title together in 2021.

Van Pran-Granger has a good chance at starting as a rookie in the fall. Mitch Morse is now a Jacksonville Jaguar, opening the door for a new face at center. The next four months will be critical for Van Pran-Granger to make an impact as a first-year pro.

Pair of former Wisconsin football players secure NFL mini camp invites

The 2024 NFL Draft has come and gone and a pair of undrafted former Wisconsin Badgers football players secured rookie minicamp invitations this week.

Offensive lineman Michael Furtney was invited to both the Bills and Packers’ rookie mini camps, while safety Travian Blaylock was invited to join the Bears at their rookie minicamp.

Furtney spent the final two years of his five campaigns in Madison operating as the team’s starting right guard while he finished his UW career having played in 56 total contests, which ranks fourth all-time in program history. He’ll now get a chance to prove himself in a pair of camps ahead of the 2024 NFL season.

Blaylock wrapped up a four-year Wisconsin tenure this past season, playing in all 13 games, recording seven total tackles and pass breakup during the 2023 campaign. He is the son of former Chiefs and Jets running back Derrick Blaylock (2001-2007) and he’ll look to carve out his own NFL career.

Former Bills WR Zay Jones released by Jaguars

Former #Bills WR Zay Jones released by Jaguars:

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released veteran wide receiver Zay Jones.

Jones, 29, signed a three-year contract with the Jaguars before the 2022 season. His release saved the Jags about $4.2 million against the salary cap but also created a dead-money hit of more than $6.5 million, according to Jaguars Wire.

Jones was selected by the Buffalo Bills out of East Carolina with a second-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Jones slowly came along during his career in Buffalo, eventually leading the Bills with 56 receptions for 652 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018.

After off-field issues, Buffalo traded Jones to then-Oakland Raiders, where he played for two-and-a-half seasons.

Because of his connections with the Bills, there could be a possibility he’s added to Buffalo’s receiving room. The Bills selected only one receiver in the 2024 NFL draft, landing Keon Coleman via a second-round pick.

Patriots might have been targeting these WRs before failed draft day trade with Bills

Did the Bills block the Patriots from getting a receiver in the first round?

The New England Patriots reportedly tried to trade back up into the first round late, but they were ultimately unsuccessful. They were in talks about acquiring the final selection of Round 1, which belonged to the Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

The deal never came to fruition, and Buffalo ended up trading their pick to the Carolina Panthers instead of going through with a trade with their AFC East rivals, who had just drafted quarterback Drake Maye earlier in the round.

The Patriots were trying to move up into the back half of the first round throughout the draft. They ended up staying put at No. 34 overall, however, and selecting Washington wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk. The thought is the Patriots might have been targeting South Carolina wideout Xavier Legette or Florida State’s Keon Coleman.

Reiss elaborated a bit more in his notes column:

The Patriots had a trade offer on the table to the Bills late in the first round on Thursday night, according to a source. The Bills were at pick No. 32 (after a trade back with the Chiefs), but instead of dealing with their AFC East rival Patriots for No. 34, they chose Carolina’s offer to slide back one spot to No. 33.

Receivers Xavier Legette and Keon Coleman were selected at 32 and 33 before the Patriots traded back from 34, so one can deduce the Patriots had either Legette or Coleman as their target — or possibly both. My hunch is Legette.

New England ended up addressing their needs at the wide receiver position, as they selected Javon Baker out of UCF, in addition to Polk.

The selection of Baker represented a common theme for New England throughout the weekend, as they did a solid job of addressing their needs at all positions. Time will tell how all of the draft selections pan out, but Patriots fans should feel comfortable with this draft class.
