Bucs Week 14 Injury Report: Key Bucs player back in action

Five Bucs did not participate in practice on Wednesday, but one big defensive player was a full participant.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers still have injury problems, but one big player is back in the fold after missing the last two games.

Linebacker Lavonte David was listed as a full participant in practice (despite it being a walkthrough) and head coach Todd Bowles said that David is officially “back” after his injury. Unfortunately, there are still problems — cornerback Josh Hayes (illness), linebacker J.J. Russell (personal matter), defensive lineman Vita Vea (toe) and linebacker Devin White (foot) were non-participants. CB Jamel Dean remains out with his ankle injury.

Here is what the first injury report of the game week looks like:

Of the Falcons players who aren’t resting, offensive lineman Drew Dalman (ankle), LB Nate Landman (knee), OL Kaleb McGary (knee) and DL David Onyemata (ankle) did not participate.

BREAKING: LB K.J. Britt will not return to game vs. Panthers

Safety Ryan Neal is now playing linebacker after Britt suffered a back injury.

The Bucs were razor-thin at linebacker heading into this game, and it only got worse in the first quarter.

Bucs LB K.J. Britt, one of the team’s backups starting in lieu of injuries to Lavonte David and Devin White, was injured in the first quarter. The injury was reported as a back injury, and he was carted off the sideline and taken to the locker room — the team then ruled him out for the remainder of the contest.

In his stead, safety Ryan Neal is currently playing linebacker and Dee Delaney has shifted over to his safety spot. He plays alongside Bucs LB J.J. Russell.

Bucs elevate two wide receivers from practice squad for Week 13

The Bucs are shoring up their WR depth ahead of their Week 13 game against the Panthers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are making sure their receiving depth is available for their Week 13 game against the Carolina Panthers.

The Bucs announced on Saturday that they are elevating wideouts David Moore and Ryan Miller from the practice squad to the active roster. This is Moore’s second elevation this year, and it’s Miller’s first — a player can only have three without being released and hitting waivers before they must be called up to the active roster.

The move comes when wideout depth is at a minimum for Tampa Bay. WR Rakim Jarrett is currently on injured reserve, and WR Chris Godwin is questionable to play on Sunday after re-aggravating a neck injury. The moves allow for some breathing room with the WR corps, though it remains to be seen how much either player will play on Sunday.

Bucs send DL Mike Greene to injured reserve, call up DL Pat O’Connor

The Bucs are making some changes to their defensive line depth.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are making some roster moves ahead of their Week 13 game against the Carolina Panthers.

The team announced on Friday that it is sending defensive lineman Mike Greene to injured reserve. Greene has been battling a calf injury and will now miss at least four games with the injury, and he’s the second Bucs player to be moved there in recent weeks behind wide receiver Rakim Jarrett.

The corresponding move to shore that depth up is to promote DL Pat O’Connor to the active roster. O’Connor has yo-yo-ed back and forth between the active roster, the practice squad and being released entirely, and because O’Connor has been released and hit waivers this season, he’s still allowed to be elevated from the practice squad without being signed to the 53-man roster. As it stands, this will be O’Connor’s fifth promotion to the active roster this year.

Bucs Final Week 13 Injury Report: LB room very hurt, one WR questionable

The Bucs are potentially more hurt than they’ve been all year heading into this matchup with the Carolina Panthers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are perhaps more hurt than they have been all season heading into Week 13 against the Carolina Panthers.

Almost the entirety of Tampa Bay’s linebacking corps is suffering — both Lavonte David (groin) and Devin White (foot) are ruled out while third-string LB SirVocea Dennis (illness) is doubtful after not practicing for a whole week. On top of that, wide receiver Chris Godwin re-aggravated a neck injury he’s been dealing with all year and he is questionable for the game after not participating on Friday.

Here is what the final injury report for the Bucs and Panthers looks like for Week 13:

The Panthers have seven players who are questionable, but only three aren’t likely to play — safety Vonn Bell (shoulder) and tight end Hayden Hurst (concussion) have been ruled out while tight end Tommy Tremble (hip) is doubtful.

Bucs LB corps will be very thin in Week 13

Lavonte David and Devin White have been ruled out and backup LB SirVocea Dennis has “a long way to go,” per Todd Bowles.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are down to the lowest parts of their depth chart at linebacker for Sunday.

The team will have a different duo at LB for Week 13 against the Carolina Panthers. Head coach Todd Bowles confirmed on Friday that starting LBs Lavonte David (groin) and Devin White (foot) are out and that third-string LB SirVocea Dennis (illness) has a “long way to go” to play Sunday.

That would leave Tampa Bay’s two other linebackers on the active roster to take their place in K.J. Britt and J.J. Russell who will take the majority of snaps. If Dennis is available to play, it’s unlikely that he’d get a lot of playing time being a rookie who has missed three days of practice. The only other linebacker anywhere on the roster is practice squad member Vi Jones, who has only been with the Bucs for about a week now.

As such, Britt and Russell will have to step up at the position, but Bowles isn’t worried about their ability to perform,

“I feel good about them stepping up. I think they’ve played before – they got in the game last year against Atlanta,” Bowles said. “K.J. has been here a couple of years, he’s a natural-born leader. J.J. can tackle. I feel good about them playing.”

MRI on Baker Mayfield’s ankle comes back negative

Head coach Todd Bowles said that Mayfield’s ankle is still very sore and that the team will see how he feels toward the middle of the week.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got good news on the injury front with starting quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Mayfield injured his ankle during a quarterback sneak on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, and he had to briefly leave the game to get it checked out. He returned and eventually played the rest of the game, but he told reporters Sunday that the ankle was incredibly sore and that he was set to get an MRI when he flew back to Tampa.

Todd Bowles confirmed on Monday that Mayfield’s MRI came back negative. Bowles asserted that Mayfield was still pretty sore, however, and told reporters that the team will try to give him some rest when he needs it and that it’ll have to see how he’s moving toward the middle of the week.

Should Mayfield not be able to play against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, backup quarterback Kyle Trask will play in his stead. Trask played a set of downs in the red zone when Mayfield left the game Sunday.

Baker Mayfield set to get MRI on return to Tampa

Mayfield injured his ankle at the end of Tampa Bay’s first drive.

Baker Mayfield is set to be examined for an ankle injury that occurred toward the end of Tampa Bay’s first drive against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Mayfield attempted a quarterback sneak against the Colts within striking distance of the goal line. The play went for no gain, but Mayfield went down on the play and held his ankle as trainers attended to him. He limped off the field and was examined in the medical tent, but he returned to the game on the next drive and finished it out. After the game, Mayfield told reporters that the injury was hurting more after the adrenaline wore off and that he was set to get an MRI upon flying back to Tampa Bay according to ESPN reporter Jenna Laine.

If Mayfield is unable to play, the honor would go to Kyle Trask, who subbed in for him on the drive he was injured.

New player added to Bucs injury report ahead of Week 12 matchup

Additionally, another player has been downgraded from questionable to out.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had some last-second adjustments to their injury report ahead of their Week 12 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.

The team announced Saturday that defensive lineman Mike Greene has been downgraded from questionable to out due to an illness. There was also a new name added to the injury report — running back Rachaad White has been added with a knee injury and is now questionable to play Sunday.

Greene’s absence is a depth hit on the defensive line rotation, but White’s absence would be far more pressing. If he isn’t able to go, his ability as a pass catcher and workhorse back would be missing from the offense. If recent trends are an indication, RBs Chase Edmonds and Sean Tucker could get more playing time. That being said, he’s questionable, not doubtful, so there’s still a decent chance he plays on Sunday.

Jamel Dean ‘week to week’ with ankle injury suffered in 49ers game

The Bucs may have gotten lucky in regard to Jamel Dean’s recent ankle injury.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers seem to have avoided long-term injury with one of its starting cornerbacks.

Bucs cornerback Jamel Dean suffered an ankle injury whilst covering wideout Brandon Aiyuk against the 49ers. While it looked very serious initially, with Dean getting carted off with a heavy wrap around his ankle, the NFL’s Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday that Dean’s injury is considered not serious and “week to week”, and that while he might miss time the injury is not considered serious.

That news would certainly be a boon to the Bucs. Both their starting corners in Dean and Carlton Davis were injured in Week 11, as was linebacker Lavonte David. If those three are out, Tampa Bay will be in big trouble defensively, so news that Dean could return would not force the Bucs to dig deep into their depth to replace him.

Corners behind Dean include Zyon McCollum and Dee Delaney. Delaney sometimes plays safety, but if he has to play corner instead, that role would go to Kaevon Merriweather.
