Rutgers men’s basketball improves to 4-0 at home with win over Howard

Rutgers men’s basketball got another win on Saturday night.

Jersey Mike’s Arena is becoming a difficult place for opponents to play. With a win over Howard on Saturday night, the Scarlet Knights improved to 4-0 at home to start the 2023-2024 campaign. In their latest victory, the Scarlet Knights were almost unstoppable offensively and dominated in the second half.

Against Howard, Rutgers’ starters set the tone. Four of their five starters scored more than 10 points, including Derek Simpson, who led both teams with 23. The offensive explosion marked the first time this season that Rutgers scored more than 80 points.

Additionally, Rutgers capitalized on the Bisons’ mistakes. Howard turned the ball over 21 times and committed 22 fouls. As a result, they were unable to gain any momentum.

After ending the first half up by eight, Rutgers used the last twenty minutes to pull away. In the second half, they outscored Howard 46-32. That included a 24-8 run, which gave Rutgers a 20-point lead with less than six minutes left.

For Howard, Bryce Harris continued to be a bright spot as he scored 12 points and added eight rebounds to his resume. Marcus Dockery also had an impressive night for the Bisons, leading the team with 16 points.

After an extended break, Rutgers will look to continue its winning ways when it takes on Saint Peter’s on November 27.

Rutgers basketball looks to continue it’s winning ways against Howard

Rutgers men’s basketball is looking for a fourth straight win.

Rutgers will be looking to extend its winning streak to four games on Saturday when they welcome Howard to Jersey Mike’s Arena. So far this season, the Scarlet Knights are undefeated at home. However, they will face a Howard team that won its most recent game against Boston University..

So far this season, Rutgers has been led by Clifford Omoruyi and Aundre Hyatt. The talented duo has made a difference offensively and on the boards. Hyatt is averaging a team-leading 13 points a game, while Omoruyi is averaging 8.3 rebounds a game.

As Rutgers looks to improve to 4-1, they will be tasked with stopping Bryce Harris, who has been a scoring machine. The New York native is averaging 18.5 points a game. He has scored at least 15 points in every game this season. Any hope of Howard pulling off an upset will rely on his play.

However, Harris is one of many Bison players Rutgers will have to worry about. He has gotten some help offensively from Marcus Dockery, Seth Towns, and Shy Odom, who are all averaging more than 10 points a game.

With a victory against Howard, Rutgers would be the third team in the Big Ten to reach the four-win mark. The only other teams on that list are Penn State and Nebraska.

The Bahamas Bowl is Friday at noon. @joshkeatley16 gives us his prospect preview for the game: #BlueRaiders vs. #LiftOff

We have now entered bowl season and the first bowl on the slate pits the Mid-American Conference against the C-USA. The Toledo Rockets currently sit at 7-5 and the MTSU Blue Raiders are 6-6. Toledo had high expectations going into the season, but the madness and constant parity of the MAC brought them to the middle of the conference pack.

Meanwhile, MTSU had similar struggles to Toledo early in the season  despite winning their first game against FCS opponent, Monmouth, the Blue Raiders lost their next three in a row and squeezed into bowl eligibility with a close win over the Florida Atlantic Owls.

With all that said, we aren’t here to dive into these teams’ schedules or how they wound up in the Bahamas Bowl, we are here to prepare for the NFL Draft and the following are the top three prospects from each squad:
