Giants release punter Matt Haack, add OL Bryan Hudson to practice squad

The New York Giants have terminated the contract of punter Matt Haack and signed offensive lineman Bryan Hudson to their practice squad.

During his first press conference of Week 10, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll intimated that kicker Graham Gano and punter Jamie Gillan could return as soon as Sunday’s game in Germany.

“I still have to meet with our medical guys, but I think Graham is getting close. How close he is right now, I think we’ll know here in the next couple days,” Daboll said on Monday.

“I think that (Gillan) progressed well. We’ll see here (on Tuesday) or Wednesday where he’s at. I think he has a chance.”

While the jury is still out on Gano, the Giants made it abundantly clear on Tuesday that Gillan is back.

Shortly after releasing cornerback Nick McCloud for salary cap purposes, the Giants quietly terminated the contract of punter Matt Haack, who had served as Gillan’s replacement.

In four games this season, Haack punted the ball 21 times for 988 yards (47.0 y/p) with an average net yards per punt of 39.0. He downed nine punts inside the 20-yard line and had just one touchback.

The Giants are also signing undrafted rookie offensive lineman Bryan Hudson to their practice squad, reports Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic.

Patriots sign Lions UDFA rookie cut this week

Patriots sign Lions UDFA rookie offensive lineman Bryan Hudson, who was cut this week, to New England’s practice squad

While none of the players the Detroit Lions waived this week ahead of Tuesday’s roster deadline were claimed by another team, one of the undrafted rookies cut by the team has found a new home.

Offensive lineman Bryan Hudson has agreed to sign with the New England Patriots on that team’s practice squad. Per Patriots reporter Doug Kyed, Hudson has a locker in New England’s locker room though no official transaction has been announced.

Hudson was one of three interior offensive linemen, along with Kingsley Eguakun and Duke Clemens, the Lions signed as undrafted rookie free agents. He played collegiately at Louisville. Hudson played capably in the preseason, bouncing between center and guard.

Top ACC players Notre Dame will be playing in 2023

Keep your eye on these players when the Irish face them.

In exchange for retaining its football independence, Notre Dame plays a certain number of ACC opponents every season. The only other sport in which Notre Dame is not an ACC member is hockey, which plays in the Big Ten. While old-school Irish fans might long for the days of the program being able to schedule almost anyone at anytime, some often forget that this arrangement means some thrilling football. The home wins over recent powerhouse Clemson in 2020 and 2022 are two examples.

College football isn’t back yet, but you still can look at the rosters and see which quality players play for whom. Twitter’s Big Game Boomer has done just that and come up with a list of the top 50 ACC players for the upcoming season. When you look at the list, you’ll see the Irish have many of them set to face them. Let’s see who the Irish are playing when you take away the players whose teams aren’t on their schedule:
