Browns vs. Texans: David Njoku ruled out, Houston without Derek Stingley

Both teams in this matchup between Browns vs. Texans will be a relatively healthy one for both sides

As the Cleveland Browns get set to head to Houston to take on the Texans, only one player was given an injury designation as tight end David Njoku will miss this matchup. Houston will be missing two as well, so the Browns vs. Texans will be a relatively healthy showing for both sides.

The Texans will be without first round pick Derek Stingley and wide receiver Brandin Cooks as the Browns come to town. Houston running back Rex Burkhead is also questionable in this game with a concussion despite practicing in full today.

Can the Browns win two in a row as they get set to take on the Texans? They have the health to do it as quarterback Deshaun Watson gets set for his first career start in the brown and orange.

Browns Vs. Texans: Everything we know from Browns win

The Browns pull to 1 – 1 in a win over the Texans. Everything we know coming out of the game:

The Cleveland Browns defeated the Houston Texans in Week 2. The game was not a pretty one to watch for either side of the ball. The offense was limited by injuries while the defense continues to struggle.

The end goal was to win the game and the final score looks much better for the home team than the flow of the game would suggest.

The Browns move to 1 – 1 early in the 2021 season while the Texans fall to the same record. With the victory, Cleveland moves to a tie with Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, who both lost today, for the AFC North lead.  Baltimore faces off with Kansas City Sunday night. A victory for the Ravens would create a four-way tie in the division.

With a 31 – 21 victory, Cleveland is on to preparations to host the Chicago Bears in Cleveland next week.

Browns Vs. Texans: Week 2 highlights as they happen

Keeping you up to date with Browns highlights from Week 2’s action as they happen against the Texans:

The Cleveland Browns take on the Houston Texans in Week 2 in what feels like a “must-win” for the home team. The Browns had a great game against the Kansas City Chiefs but lost while the Texans took it to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a victory.

Coming back home, the Cleveland fanbase is ready to fill the stadium and cause a lot of noise. Houston comes in as a big underdog coming off a difficult offseason.

We look to keep you up to date with all Browns-related highlights from today’s game right here. Need to see it again? Need to share with a family member? We will get them here for you as quickly as possible.

After a muffed punt by the Texans, the Browns punched it in with fullback Andy Janovich shortly after a big play to TE Harrison Bryant:

Browns kick the extra point to go up 7 – 0 with 9:56 left in the first quarter.

Browns Vs. Texans: Inactives report

Will Wills give it a go? Who else will be inactive along with OBJ? Who starts at LB with Walker out? Who is out for Houston?

As the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans look to matchup in Week 2, we take a look at the players who will be missing the game and the adjustments because of it.

Odell Beckham Jr. was ruled out at the start of the week by head coach Kevin Stefanski.

With that out of the way, all week the biggest question for the Browns was the status of left tackle Jedrick Wills and his backup Chris Hubbard. Hubbard was ruled out earlier this week but the decision on Wills was a game-time one.

As first reported by Mary Kay Cabot, Wills will be active for the game.

Browns Inactives

  • WR Odell Beckham Jr.
  • S Richard LeCounte III
  • LB Tony Fields  II
  • DT Tommy Togiai

Donovan Peoples-Jones will start at wide receiver while Malcolm Smith will be the starting MIKE linebacker.

Texans Inactives

  • WR Anthony Miller
  • QB Deshaun Watson
  • TE Brevin Jordan
  • DB Jimmy Moreland
  • RB Scottie Phillips
  • DL Jonathan Greenard
  • DL Demarcus Walker

Watson is no surprise and likely to remain inactive all year or until he is cleared legally. Miller has a lot of fans around the league but hasn’t really taken hold after being traded from Chicago.

Browns Vs. Texans: Behind Enemy Lines

Need some last-minute insight into the Browns opponent this week? @TheTexansWire Mark Lane is here to help:

With the Cleveland Browns getting ready to kickoff against the Houston Texans, we went Behind Enemy Lines with Mark Lane of Texans Wire to learn some last-minute things about the opponent this week.

From the outside looking in, Houston looked like a trainwreck this offseason, what was it like from the inside though?

It’s still a trainwreck. The only people who don’t believe it’s a trainwreck are the players and coaches inside the building, and that is partly due to David Culley’s immense optimism and consistent approach in that area. I think having Mark Ingram as a lieutenant of his also is good at spreading the message. What will always make the 2021 season a potential disaster is the Deshaun Watson front. Anytime there is a three-time Pro Bowl quarterback just sitting on the bench, it’s an issue.

The Texans seemed balanced on offense in Week 1 but is it sustainable?

I don’t think so. Because if a team is able to present a decent pass rush, they should be able to knock Tyrod Taylor around, or at least chase him out of his throws and force him to consider scrambling. That is why the Browns present so much of a challenge. They have effective pass rushers. How much time is Taylor really going to have to throw the football? He was only sacked once against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Houston’s defense used to have a ton of big names, who are the cornerstones on that side of the ball?

Linebacker Zach Cunningham — he’s a tackling machine who led the NFL last year with 164. Safety Justin Reid is a vocal leader and a really bright player who has always had immense comprehension of the game going back to his rookie year. Defensive end Whitney Mercilus is also a guy that has been thrust into the fore as a leader. Although J.J. Watt is with the Arizona Cardinals, the leadership element is still there among the existing players.

There are a lot of former Browns playing for the Texans, including a few starters, is that coincidental or something to that?

No. Someone in the personnel department likes guys that pass through Cleveland. Remember in 2019 when they traded for Duke Johnson? Teams tend to do this regardless of who the coaching staff is and the connections therein.

Which former Brown could have the biggest game Sunday?

I think tight end Pharaoh Brown could have a big game. He caught four passes for 67 yards last week, including a one-handed grab of about 25 yards that got Houston down in the red zone. I think he’s the guy. He’s starting to come into his own at tight end, even starting on game days. He also wants to have a great showing in Cleveland, not so much because he used to be a Brown, but because his family still are big Browns backers.

Score prediction?

The Browns avoid an 0-2 hole by getting after the Texans early with their run game and forcing Taylor into a couple of early turnovers. It isn’t as outrageous as the 17.5-point spread for the game, but there is no doubt Cleveland is in control on the way to a 26-13 Browns victory.

Browns Vs. Texans: What if the Browns win? Lose?

By 4 something this afternoon, what if the Browns are 1 – 1? What if they are 0 – 2? Game prediction included as well:

The Cleveland Browns season didn’t start the way they had hoped. While the team was competitive against the very good Kansas City Chiefs, ultimately the final score was not in their favor. In the longest season in NFL history, one game may not have a big impact on the final results.

For the Browns, 16 – 1 is still a possibility.

Unlikely, but a possibility.

The team quickly moved on to Week 2 against the Houston Texans. While Browns Vs. Texans is not expected to be a close game, based on the spread which is something new for recent Browns games, no game in the NFL is certain.

Taking a second to look ahead to late Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, what would it look like if the Browns beat the Texans? What if the team loses to Houston, a team that had a highly problematic offseason?

The short answers are easy: Win? Good. Lose? Very bad. Let’s break it down some more.

Browns Vs. Texans: One matchup that could decide the game

One matchup could decide Browns Vs Texans in Week 2:

When the Cleveland Browns face off against the Houston Texans in Week 2 of the 2021 NFL season, there is a chance for both teams to go against offseason expectations. The Texans were expected to be a disastrous failure while the Browns were expected to compete for the top spot in the AFC.

Both teams could still meet their offseason expectations but Week 2 could do a lot to set up the future. If Houston wins and Cleveland loses, those expectations will have to be reevaluated.

In order for the Browns to not let that happen, they must be able to protect quarterback Baker Mayfield and get the running game going. In their Week 1 victory, the Texans hit Trevor Lawrence four times, sacking him once. They also kept Jacksonville from getting their running game going, only allowing 76 yards on the ground.

As with most games, that shines the spotlight directly on the line of scrimmage. For the Browns, four-fifths of their offensive line is good to great. Normally, all five are noted as such but with Jedrick Wills questionable and his backup, Chris Hubbard, out, Cleveland has an area of concern against Houston.

For the Texans, Whitney Mercilus is the big name. He had the team’s only sack last week along with a tackle for loss. For his career, Mercilus has 113 quarterback hits, 69 tackles for loss and 55 sacks. His ability to impact the game from the edge has been consistent.

If Wills is significantly limited or the Browns have to start their third-string left tackle, James Hudson III is the expectation, Houston may be able to disrupt the home team’s game plan rushing and passing.

Whitney Mercilus versus whoever starts at left tackle could be the matchup that decides the Browns vs. Texans in Week 2.

Browns Vs Texans Week 2: How to watch, listen and steam

How to watch, listen and stream Sunday’s game:

Week 1 didn’t go the Cleveland Browns way against the Kansas City Chiefs but the team showed they belonged with the two-time defending AFC champions.

Week 2 is a chance for Cleveland to get even at 1 – 1 in their home opener against the Houston Texans. The Texans come in at 1 – 0 after a tumultuous offseason and a Week 1 victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Browns need a victory in Week 2. Call it a “must-win” if you will but an 0 – 2 start after the offseason additions and expectations could lead to a storm around the team.

In what Cleveland hopes is a turnaround game, Browns Vs Texans could be very interesting. Below are important game details about this preseason matchup. If you have questions about the game, reach out to us on Twitter @TheBrownsWire.

‘Texans 1 – 0 and Browns 0 – 1’: Kevin Stefanski makes sure players aware

With signs “all over the building,” the Browns head coach won’t let the players forget who is undefeated and who is winless going into Week 2:

The Cleveland Browns are huge favorites going into their Week 2 matchup with the Houston Texans. The offseason was mostly a mess in Houston while Cleveland built on a great 2020 season with a great 2021 offseason.

Unfortunately for the Browns, their exciting 2021 season started off against the two-time defending AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs. Week 1 didn’t go Cleveland’s way even though they controlled the game for the majority of the time. Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce were just too much for the Browns especially with Ronnie Harrison and Jedrick Wills not finishing the game.

The Texans had a much easier matchup and got the win against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1. Behind former Brown Tyrod Taylor, Houston was able to dominate the game from the start.

Despite the Browns being the big favorites, head coach Kevin Stefanski won’t let them forget which team is winless and which team is undefeated:

Stefanski won’t let the players get overconfident based on preseason expectations instead, the Texans are the better team because they have the better record. If the Browns beat them, the players can think differently but, until then, they will see reminders all over the building.
